Cannot connect 2010 Access 2010 Excel or PowerPivot to Mobile SQL(SQL Server Compact) - SDF files

Posted By:      Posted Date: November 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I've believe I've installed everything to read Mobile SQL .SDF files.  I've insalled Sql Server Management Studio, Sql Server 2008 R2, .NET 4.0 Framework and just about everything else I've read to see the contents of an .SDF file created for what I read directly from these product sources as this DotNet Compact Framework is the greatest new SQL stuff on the planet.  I can connect using the Management Studio and see the TABLE Stucture easy enough and I can query using some simple SQL Commands from the Management Studio but what really bugs me is if this is all so wonderful, how come I cannot connect to what the SQL Server 2008 R2 Server type "SQL Server Compact" Authentication: "SQL Server Compact Authentication in Office 2010 Access, Excel or even "WOW" PowerPivot!  I've run across a couple 3rd party .SDF Readers - one that exports to Excel such as flyhoward.com  I'm growing old with all the work around import export stuff and just want to use PowerPivot to  excersise the data......or should I use something that actually works like Tableau??

Linked server to access 2010

I keep getting an error when setting up a linked server in sql 2008 R2 x64 to a microsoft access database file (mdb or accdb file).  (The problem occurs on computers with either the 32-bit or 64-bit version of ms office installed).  What are the proper connection string settings?  (This is after right clicking linked servers in ssms and selecting "add new linked server")  The below settings don't work: Provider (from dropdown): Microsoft Office 12.0 Access Database ENgine OLE DB Provider Product name: Access Data source: C:\foopath\foo.mdb  --also doesn't work for foo.accdb Provider string: Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0 An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. SQL Server doesn't exist or access denied while connecting with Access 2010 ODBC

Hello all. I am using Access 2010 and SQL Server 2008 (locally). I can easily connect to server using SSMS and it works excellent. But when I want to import a table to Access 2010 using ODBC, it says that "SQL Server doesn't exist or access denied". It worked previously - almost 3 days ago, but now, it doesn't! Please help! Thanks Mohammad Javahery

Importing Access 2010 tables to SQL Server 2008 R2

I'm trying to import a series of Access 2010 tables to Sql Server 2008 R2.  The Access import drivers are for *.mdb (which if I recall was the file extension for Access when I was a kid, and don't recognize the .accdb file extention).  Similarly, the Excel driver is for Excel 2003.  Isn't there a driver and method to import directly to SQL 2008 from Access 2010? SQL is installed on my server, but Access is not installed on the server.  When I copy the file onto the server and try and open it directly into SQL, I get a 'no editor installed' error. I can't get the 'upsize' wizard to work becuase it won't open the connection to SQL, even though I enter the userid and password of the SQL DB owner.  I get the following error: ===================================================== Connection failed: ============================================================= I have to say I'm stumped.  The rest of the Office 2010 suite works really well together - perhaps I'm missing something very simple? Thanks!     I guess I could export my tables as Excel 2003 and then import them using Integration Services, or install SQL Express on my laptop and 'upsize' to that instance, but SQL State: ‘0100’ SQL Server Error: 11004 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Dirver][TCP/IP Sockets]ConnectionOpen (Connect()). how can I open a sql compact 4.0 DB from VS 2010 server explorer ?

Hi, I've downloaded the latest sql compact 4.0 beta, and I follow the Scott Guthrie sample (http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2010/07/16/code-first-development-with-entity-framework-4.aspx). It is working as expected, the DB is created. However, I cannot open the DB in the server explorer of VS (neither from sql management studio). An error telling me the version of the file is not supported is thrown. Note that I only have the 3.5 version in the provider list in the add connection wizard. What is missing ? thanks in advance for the help. stevePaying back the community for its help by writing articles : Have a Nice Day.Net Blog

Creating Lists On Share-point 2010 Server from .stp list template files using Features

Search Server Express 2010 - Access Denied when attempting to manage Search Service Application or P

I first noticed this error with the Search Service Application when I was no longer able to use the search portal, but have since noticed the issue with the PowerPoint Service Application.  When I navigate in Central Administration to either the "Farm Search Administration" or the "Manage service applications" pages and attempt to manage the "Search Service Application", I get this error: Error: Access Denied  Current User You are currently signed in as:  WHEELERS\MyUserName   Sign in as a different user    I have tried removing the service application and re-adding it, changing the application pool to running under an existing application pool as the farm administrator, as another application pool with the same identity as the primary web application, and as another application pool running under the SP-SearchService identity. The big recent change with SharePoint, aside from fixing the previous issue where I was incorrectly using CNAMEs with Kerberos, was to switch the main web application to claims authentication. That site correctly works with claims based authentication and Kerberos.

how to make working WPF 2010 program make changes to SQL Server 2008 Express files

(1) I have a working WPF 2010 program that manipulates a table in SQL Server 2008 Express (2) the program does delete, update, select and insert correctly however in its own project file folder logbooklmk.mdf   logbooklmk_log.ldf (3) I want the actual SQL Server 2008 express files to be changed yes I know the issue is sharing and the copy option only applies to the local project files. I found this out by trying always copy, never copy and copy if newer. I probably have to change the .xsd folder to refer to the actual SQL Server 2008 Express file. Tried that once and it failed. Something about sharing not allowed.

PowerPivot Report is unable to connect database after uploading onto SharePoint 2010

Hi All,

I have developed one PowerPivot Report in excel 2010 and uploaded into SharePoint 2010. The report has slicers and filters which are working pretty well in excel 2010.

I'm able to open the report through sharepoint browser and  if click on any slicer getting the following error.

An error occurred during an attempt to establish a connection to the external data source. The following connections failed to refresh:

Also i'm unable to see the filter on the report.

I have got some info on google regarding 'Claims to windows token service' should up and run. But, i'm still getting the same after enabling 'Claims to windows token service' as well.

Please help me in this regard.

Thanks & Regards,

Siva.

Connect to Outlook feature in SharePoint 2010 still using .pst files?

The Connect to Outlook feature in SharePoint Server 2007 uses a .pst file to store content that is visible in Outlook. This has caused issues in the past with a client's enterprise policy of preventing use of .pst files on desktops. This particular client has an application that periodically checks for .pst files and deletes them, which breaks the Connect to Outlook feature for them.

Does SharePoint 2010 use the same functionality to Connect to Outlook, or something different?

Not able to Connect Access 2010 or Sharepoint Designer 2010 to the Local SP 2010 Development Environ

I was able to install and configure SP 2010 Foundation on a Windows 7 Home Premium Edition as a Development Environment.  But I am facing  following issues:

a)cannot export lists from Access DB (Reason not able to connect to the local site on my machine)

b) for a list on SP site can't "Open with Access" - Access application is triggered, but the list doesn't show-up.

c) open a Page or List for edit with Sharepoint Designer ( SharePoint Designer application gets triggered  but it get message "Unable to open Web site, Possible Causes: ..."

d) Also "Open Site" for local site on my machine gives the same error as in point c) above.

These 4  unsuccessful operations happen only for the local development site (created on my laptop), all the above operations are successful though when I do them on a web hosted SP 2010 site. I have given "Full Control" permission for my login on the Central Administration. So what is wrong with the local site which prevents SharePoint Designer and Access DB connectivity?

Report Builder 3.0 unable to access SharePoint Foundation 2010 Report Server

I am having a terrrible time getting this to work. I have configured the SharePoint site and the SQL Servers involved to use Kerberos. That has been confirmed working.

I then configured the SharePoint site's Reporting Services integration (trusted account), enabled anonymous access and enabled report builder. I can launch report builder without any issues at all. The problem comes when I try to save my report. When Report Builder is started Items->New-ReportBuilder Report it opens and display in the lower left hand corner "No current report server." When I close the Wizard dialog and click connect I enter http://server.fqdn.net and I receive the following error:

Connection failed:

Unable to connect to the server that is specified in the URL, 'http://servername.fqdn.net/'.

Make sure that the server is running, the URL is correct, and you have permission to use the server.

I have also tried http://servername.fqdn.net/reportsserver/. When I try that I receive a login prompt. When I enter my credentials it tries for a few seconds and then sends another login prompt. I installed the report server using default settings. The reporting services db is on the same server as sharepoint. The configuration and other databases are on a remote S
