System Configuration Checker not checking in Sql Server 2008 2R

Posted By:      Posted Date: November 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I am novice jumping in and attempting to install Sql Server 2008 2R locally.

I am following this installation video http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd299415%28SQL.100%29.aspx And I am trying to use the checker to see if there is any condition that will prevent an sucessful installation.

In the tutorial it appears that they are using an earlier version than my windows7. When I click on the System Configuration Checker I get “Browse for Sql Server 2008 2R Installation Media” which is not the same option as the video (2.02)

Not sure what to do as ultimately I would like to check that everything is in place first. Can anyone help me please.

SSRS 2008 - report manager: System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server

I have an instance of Reporting Services 2008 running on Windows 2003 server.  So, the webservice URL is running on port 801, and runs fine (I can browse reports from that directory, and upload / deploy new reports and overwrite existing reports. Report manager is set to use port 800 (IIS is also on that machine running port 80).  When I attempt to connect to report manager, I get the following error, with a link to "Home" in report manager (which brings me back to the existing error page):    Unable to connect to the remote server  In the logfiles for reporting services, the following error is there: " System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.   Any ideas? Report Server Instance not shown in SQL 2008 R2 version for Configuration Manager

Hi,

I am using Windows Server 2003. I have installed SQL Server 2005 and SQL 2008 R2 version in the machine. The sql server 2008 R2 version has the instance name as SQL2008R2

I am trying to configure "Reporting services Configuration Manager" for the SQL 2008 r2. I gave the machine name and hit the Find button, I am not able to get the Report server instance name.

But when I gave the server name, i am able to browse to the folders page in the Internet explorer. so the server is available . I gave like this in the IE, and I am able to see the page:

http://Server IP/Reports_SQL2008R2/Pages/Folder.aspx

In the eventvwr, I found the following errror "The Drive:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.SQL2008R2\Reporting Services\ReportServer\RSReportServer.config file failed to load. This error may occur if the XML is not valid. "

How to get the Report server instance name in the configuration manager.

Thank you

SQL Server 2008 R2 on Windows 2008R2 Ent - Drives+Raid Configuration + W2008 Disk Initialization

Hi, I just want to make sure that we setup this server the best way possible as we are moving from a previous box where

performance was affected mainly because of partitioning and SQL memory optimizations.

The Hardware:

Dell PowerEdge R710

  • Intel® Xeon® X5660, 2.8Ghz, 12M Cache,Turbo, HT, 1333MHz
  • 64GB Memory (8x8GB), 1333MHz Dual Ranked RDIMMs
  • PERC H700 Controller
  • 8 x 300GB 10K RPM Serial-Attach SCSI 6Gbps 2.5in Hotplug Hard Drive
  • Virtual Volume 1: 2 Drives = Raid 1 - for the OS
  • Virtual Volume 2: 2 Drives = Raid 1 - for the ldf's
  • Virtual Volume 3: 4 Drives = Raid 10 - for the mdf's

Windows 2008R2 64bits is installed on Volume 1.

- I would like to know what suggestions you might have for the Initialization of the other 2 volumes (MBR or GPT).

- Any other settings like partition align = 64

- Memory Settings at the OS level.

- Memory Settings on SQL.

- Any other recommendations.

SQL Server 2008 R2 Installation via configuration file

Hi everyone !

I'm trying to install SQL2K8R2 on a W2K8R2 x64 server.

I previously did the installation using the GUI. No problemo.

Now I'm trying to install using the /configurationfile switch. However the setup fail with the error "the credentials you provided for SQL Server Agent Services are invalid..."

The account is a domain account with no privileges on the server. I only use Windows accounts for Agent & SQL Services.

I've seen some posts on the web about this issue, seems to be an issue with the user which is running the setup command. I'm using an account which is local admin and domain user.

Any help ? Have a nice day.

J.

System.DirectoryServices.Protocols problem after upgrading to Windows Server 2008 R2

Hopefully this is the correct forum...

I have a block of code (VB.NET) for creating connection object for an OpenLDAP directory that looks something like

_OL = New LdapDirectoryIdentifier(DirectoryServer, PortNumber, True, False)
_Conn = New LdapConnection(_OL)
_Conn.SessionOptions.SaslMethod = "GSSAPI"
_Conn.SessionOptions.ProtocolVersion = 3
_Conn.SessionOptions.Sealing = True
_Conn.SessionOptions.SspiFlag = _Conn.SessionOptions.SspiFlag Or &H10 'auth-conf
_Conn.Timeout = New TimeSpan(0, 20, 0) ' 20 minutes
_Conn.AuthType = AuthType.Negotiate

On a Windows Server 2008 computer, this block of code gives me an ldapconnection object
On a Windows Server 2008 R2 computer, this block of code throws an exception when attempting to set the SaslMethod property (Also tried setting to "SIMPLE", "GSS-SPNEGO" or "EXTERNAL")

Not very helpfully, the error message states simply "An unknown authentication error occurred" Error code = 86 in System.DirectoryServices.Protocols.LdapSessionOptions.SetStringValueHelper(LdapOption option, String value)

I have matched as much as possible except for OS version. Same .NET Framework version, same processor, same Windows edition

Any suggestions?

Cant move system databases of SQL Server 2008 (Clustered) running in Windows 2008 with Service SID e

Hi,

I was trying to move system databases of SQL Server 2008 on clustered emvironment running on Windows 2008.

I remember while doing the cluster installation somewhere it gave me a recomended option of using Service SID. I think that is the culprit here. Because if you see the "Security" of the DATA folder containing all the MDF and LDF (by default location) you will find a Group named "MSSQLSERVER" is having full access to that directory.

While moving the system databases you need that account (MSSQLSERVER) given access to the parent directory containing the MDF and the LDFs, But unfortunately you cannot add that account manually. Even I tried XCOPY to make sure that while copying the ACLs gets transferred properly to the destination, even that failed.

I think it does provide a solid Security but at the expense of Maintenance, which I cant agree.

Also I forgot to tell you that this Sevice SID option is available if you are using Windows Vista / Windows 2008 or above,

Does anyone has any experience of moving the system databases with Service SID enabled in a cluster environment.

As a testing just try to copy/xcopy/robocopy any folder having MSSQLSERVER group in the ACL and see what happens .. If you are lucky like me then you will get ACCESS DENIED error.

Have anyone faced the same error? I h

CLR-based Function using System.Drawing throwing 6522 after update of server to 2008 SP2

Seven reasons to care about SQL Server 2008 R2

Microsoft begins to fully realize its vision of SQL Server as an information platform and not "just" a database. Hence the main theme for this release -- at least according to Microsoft -- is self-service BI. The PowerPivot plug-ins for Excel 2010 and SharePoint 2010 are easily going to make the biggest splash of all the new features, not least because they're the most complete. But then, SQL Server 2008 R2 isn't strictly necessary for PowerPivot for Excel, which works with plenty of other data sources.
