Custom List Form web part connection to data view

Hi

We have a sharpoint site to manage "projects".    That site includes a document library.  The documents uploaded to the library are categorised based on the project they belong to.

We are trying to implement a custom list form for editing a project record that does one of the following:

1. When the edit form is loaded for a particular projects record that edit form also shows a list of relevant documents.

or

2. Include a button or link on the edit form to another page that lists only the documents for the current project.

We thought this would be easy to do using web part connections.  If we click on the custom list form it gives us the option to setup a web part connection.  However, if you follow this wizard through and get to the stage of selecting columns to link, there are no columns listed for either the custom list form or for the target dataview.  This is the case whether the target data view is on the same page, ie in case of option 1 or on a different page as in case of option 2.

Could someone advise us how we could either get the web part connections between the custom list form and other dataviews to work or how we could hyperlink to a dataview and pass the id of the record currently being edited to that dataview as a filter?

We are using Sharepoint Designer so would appreciate any suggestions base

I'm building a Sharepoint page with a data form web part that uses custom SELECT and UPDATE statements with an SQL Server connection in order to retrieve and store records of information.

I'm getting along fine, records seem to update how they should etc, but I've ran into a problem with one thing: Sharepoint dropdownlists in 'Edit Template'

So the issue is this: if I replace a textbox field with a dropdown list that is populated with a separate SQL datasource, the dropdown list seems to be unable to show the current value of the field.

E.g. I have a dataview which has a field "FruitID", which I can update just fine by setting the ID value to different numbers. The SQL datasource uses the FruitID to display a list of all available Fruits, (e.g. 1 = Banana, 2 = Apple, 3 = Cherry, etc).

If i open the dataview in editmode, the default value in the dropdown is null, despite the real value of the field being "2", which should show "Apple" in the dropdown.

I can select a fruit and click save, and it will update just fine. But the initial display needs to show the correct value to start with.

Is there a custom binding I should be coding to make this work? I can't configure dropdown <items> on an individual level as they are populated from the SQL server. I can't set "SelectedI

Data View Web Part, update to Data Source / adding new list to existing data source

  

Hi all,

I have four Lists with identical columns :

List 1
List 2
List 3
List 4

I had to merge them, hence i created a data source ( Linked Source ) and merged these lists in SPD. I have used a data view webpart to display some columns from the merged lists data source and everything was working fine.

But now i have a new List : List 5 which also has the same columns like the other four lists and i need to update the data soure such that it is merged list of 5 lists not 4.

i updated the datasource property of the linked source to merge this new list as well. However the contents of List 5 dont appear in the data view webpart. 

Am i missing something here ? 

I dont want recreate the data view web part from scratch eachtime , because in future there might be List 6 , List 7 as well ...

In 2007, I never had any issues with doing this. In 2010, I created a web part that looks at the Pages list and pulls a few columns and as long as I am within the site, it works fine. But I need to call information from the Pages list in a subsite and display that information on the parent site default page.

In 2007, I made this work by changing ListID to ListName and DefaultValue="Pages" and then change the WebURL to DefaultValue="/SubsiteName/" then place it anywhere and it found it. Now if I change the ListID to ListName and default value to Pages I get an error that the web part cannot be imported. if I try using the actual ListID and change the WebURL to the subsite, I get an error that the web part is looking for a list that does not exist. This worked so easily in 2007.

Any one able to tell me what's going on? Or have a solution?

SharePoint 2007 - How to associate a Custom List View with a Custom Edit Form. Edit link always re

  

Can someone give me a clue of how to connect a specific Custom List View with a custom Edit Form.

I have created a custom list, and I have created a custom view attached to that list.   I also have a custom CustomEditForm.aspx form created using SharePoint Designer.

I want to associate the Custom Edit form directly with one and one view only for a given list so that when the user clicks the edit icon in that view, they are linked to the custom Edit Form.  But all other views including the All Items view behave as normal, i.e. using the normal EditForm.aspx.

I can replace the EditForm.aspx in the Url with my custom form and it works fine, but I can't seem to figure out how to connect the custom view edit link to the custom form.  It always takes me back to the default EditForm.aspx page.

I have investigated the href="{$URL_Edit}?ID={@ID}" onclick="GoToPage('{$URL_Edit}?ID={@ID}') in code, which appears to  be how the URL is generated but I'm not sure how or where best to set the value of URL_Edit parameter so that I point to the custom Edit Form.  This is somehow getting passed into the custom view, but I'm not sure how best to set it for a specific non-AllItems view.

Disable filtering on a Dynamic Data list view.

  

I have an entity set of NotificationTemplates, and each one of these has a collection of zero-many SmsTemplate entities. When editing or viewing a NotificationTemplate, I have a link to View SMS Templates. That link takes me to a List view for the SmsTemplates entity set, filtered for the NotificationTemplate I was viewing.

How can I prevent the user changing this filter to show SmsTemplates for another NotificationTemplate? That is, I want the filter, but it must be read only. The drop-down just mustn't drop down, it must just display the name of the NotificationTemplate that these SmsTemplates belong to. To view SmsTemplates for another NotificationTemplate, the user must click View SMS Templates from that other template.

Add page numbers for paging in data view web part

  

Hello all,

Has anyone found a solution that will allow me to have page numbers for paging in a data view web part. For instance, if I have 40 items/rows and I set the paging to display 10 items, I'd like the paging to show 1 2 3 4 rather than showing 1-10 and having to click next over and over to get to a specific item.

I found this article, but it is for 2003 and doesn't seem to apply to 2007 or if it does I am not able to really figure out how.

Hi,

I am designing a data form - adding some formatting etc.  I am able to see the webpart correctly in SPD split view, but when I trying to preview it, it gives me the following error

Unable to display this Web Part. To troubleshoot the problem, open this Web page in a Windows SharePoint Services-compatible HTML editor such as Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer. If the problem persists, contact your Web server administrator.
ANy help would be welcome, I have spent a lot of time on this page and don't want to do it again.  THere are a lot of fields and it's a tedious process to move them to the correct location.  I am at my wits end, I am not sure how to debug this!!

Calculated date field displays differently in List View and Data View web parts

  
In SharePoint GUI I created a simple custom list with a calculated Date/Time field (Due).  The calculation is =[Created]+7.  I'm trying to display this data on a page using a DVWP.  But first, for testing purposes, I also created a second calculated Date/Time (TestCreate) field in my custom list that is simply =[Created]. In the List View from within SharePoint, the dates show as expected (for example): Created = 8/12/2010 3:45 PM Due = 8/19/2010 3:45 PM TestCreate = 8/12/2010 3:45 PM In SharePoint Designer, I added a Data View web part and the above three data elements (each configured to display mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss tt).  I see the time displayed for the example list item as: Created = 8/12/2010 3:45:30 PM Due = 8/19/2010 10:45:00 AM TestCreate = 8/12/2010 10:45:00 AM I've tested a couple scenarios and the calculated fields always display five hours in the past (along with dropping the seconds).  It seems like the DVWP is returning the date in a different time zone (with no seconds).  The lcid is set right (1033).  I didn't see any time zone settings for the DVWP specifically.  I'm basically stuck.  Could someone help me figure this one out. create new custom list form in sharepoint designer and edit in browser

  
hi, i have created a new list using sharepoint designer 2007. now i inserted a custom list form to modify some field and add new ones. when i finished i will tight my new custom list to the custom form. what i want to know is. i see the status field in my new form. and i only want the status field to appear in the edit form for the one that has the permission to edit the status. then i tought of open the list in my browser and go to the list settings. but what i notice is i dont see my fields i have modified in sharepiont designer in the columns section i only see the ones from the existing list. my question is how can i hide the status field in the new item form that it only show in the edit form. and how do i get my new form in the column section so the end user can add more fields if they want without using sharepointdesigner thnx

Hi I am planning to connect a Sharepoint Custom list with an external Data-source. External DB will be in Access 2007 format. More Information: I need a solution that we can connect our sharepoint list (one-way) to online db in a way that new  information is directly updated in the sharepoint list, whilst other info changed in sharepoint list  is not synced back to original value. Is there a way to solve this? -saumil

Unable to Show Edit item Links in Data Form Web Part

  
I have a DFWP connected to custom list and the boxes to Show Edit Item Links, Show Delete item links and Show Insert Item links are grayed out so that they can not be checked. This works fine when I use a DFWP connected to a standard list (i.e., Contacts). Is there something special that needs to be done to activate this functionality?ThanksDean

Help with creating graphs in a site page from figurative data in custom list

  
Guys Can anyone provide me with someone help please? I need to be able show a graphs/line format in a web part of a site page on my SP 2010 site. I want to use some changing figurative data that is contained within a custom list change a the line/pie chart graph on the fly that is located within a chart/line graph in a site page. Basically when the data in the custom list gets changed by my resources I want to be able to see the changes in the graph almost like a live dashboard. I would be very greatful for some help. Note: I am not a coder nore do I ever claim to be, but if I could get a step by step guide on how to achieve this then I would be very greatful. I have a good understanding of SP but I am not to the coder. I able to supply the list if necessary and if someone could provide me with the code/or if code is not necessary for this task then please can you advise how?
