Copying rows using a dynamic SQL Command variable

Posted By:      Posted Date: November 03, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I have a table with the Source TableName and Source ColumnName. I am trying to use SSIS to extract data from my source based on the tables and columns. I am using a Script Task to dynamically create the SELECT statement, no problems with that.

Next, I have a data flow task with a Source OLE DB Connection and the Data Access mode is using this dynamically created select statement. I am however unable to use this because this SELECT statement variable is not populated until runtime.

Basically I want to COPY ALL ROWS from the source to a destination.

Is this possible? What is wrong with my assumptions? Any suggestions?

Adding Dynamic Rows in ASP.NET GridView Control with TextBoxes and with Delete functionality

In my previous examples, I have demonstrated on how to add dynamic rows in GridView control with TextBoxes and how to save the values into the database. Now, seems that most of the developers are asking if how to add a delete functionality with it. So in this example, I'm going to show on how to delete a certain row in the dynamic GridView with TextBoxes.

Adding Dynamic Rows in GridView with TextBoxes

I decided to write this article because this has been asked so many times before at the forums(http://forums.asp.net) . Basically, this example shows on how to generate a Row in GridView with TextBoxes when clicking a Button that is residing inside a GridView Footer.

Row command working on all rows not selected one?

I have this code that hides a column in a gridview.  (The column houses another nested gridview).

    Protected Sub GridView1_RowCommand(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridViewCommandEventArgs) Handles GridView1.RowCommand
        If e.CommandName = "Select" Then
            If GridView1.Columns(0).Visible = False Then
                GridView1.Columns(0).Visible = True
                GridView1.Columns(0).Visible = False
            End If
        End If
    End Sub

The trouble is that if I click the select link on one row that action to hide is carried out on all rows.  How can I set this up so that it only hides the row that is selected?

Using a Variable in SSIS - Error - "Command text was not set for the command object.".

Hi All, i am using a OLE DB Source in my dataflow component and want to select rows from the source based on the Name I enter during execution time. I have created two variables, enterName - String packageLevel (will store the name I enter) myVar - String packageLevel. (to store the query) I am assigning this query to the myVar variable, "Select * from db.Users where (UsrName =  " + @[User::enterName] + " )" Now in the OLE Db source, I have selected as Sql Command from Variable, and I am getting the variable, enterName,. I select that and when I click on OK am getting this error.   Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Source [1]]: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E0C.An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client"  Hresult: 0x80040E0C  Description: "Command text was not set for the command object.". Can Someone guide me whr am going wrong? myVar variable, i have set the ExecuteAsExpression  Property to true too. Please let me know where am going wrong? Thanks in advance.

Dynamic rows(fields) generation in crystal reports

Hi.....frnds,     I am working on Crystal reports.My requirement is that i need to  generate dynamic fields according to the count of Family_Members column in sql server database,for example if i have '4' in 'Family_Members' column i need to generate 4(Family members details)dynamically.

How to declare a table variable in SSIS and then insert rows into it

Hello everyone,   I'll try to explain my problem as clearly as I can: 1)I have an Execute SQL Task that's inside a Foreach Loop Container. 2)Inside the Execute SQL Task, I have an int OUTPUT column. 3)With each iteration, I need to insert the data from the INT output colum into a table variable. 4)After the Foreach Loop finishes the iterations, I need to use the table variable to create a report based on the data inside.   My question is the following: How can I declare a table variable so that I can do all of the above?   Thank you, CostinP

can dynamic sql be used against a table variable?

This Works

create table #tmp1(rowID int)
declare @rowID int
set @rowID = 1
exec('insert into #tmp1(rowID) SELECT ' + @rowID)

This does not work

Declare @tmp1 table(rowID int)
declare @rowID int
set @rowID = 1
exec('insert into @tmp1(rowID) SELECT ' + @rowID)

Error Msg:
Msg 137, Level 15, State 2, Line 1
Must declare the variable '@tmp1'.

Is there a way to use Dynamic Sql against a Table var -- @tmp1?
How to do this?

The goal is to be able to pass in a string param like this to a proc

s1 = 'aa'',''bb'',''cc'

declare @s1 varchar(20)

Begin As

declare @tmp1(...)
exec('Insert Into ' + @tmp1 + ' (...) Where fldx In (''' + @s1 + ''')')

Query returns correct rows but I am not able to concatenate the rows into a variable :(

Hi all,

Why in the code below I am able to list all rows and display the field 'stepID' but I am not able to concatenate them all in the variable @stepIds?

declare @date as datetime
set @date = '2010-09-20 23:01:20:000'
declare @instance as uniqueidentifier
set @instance = '04658F34-CBF1-4CCD-A683-F23BDB669D35'

  Declare @CrLf char(2)
  Set @CrLf = Char(13) + Char(10)
	Declare @stepIds varchar(8000)
	Set @stepIds = ''
		--@stepIds = @stepIds + ' - Step: ' + CONVERT(varchar(4), stepID)

Gridview - Update with Dynamic SELECT Command?

Hi All...

We created a GridView-based webform with Update using the design wizards - very nice and it works great.  But then we wanted to the ability to create the SELECT command dynamically based on other controls on the page.  We added something like the following to Page_Load()...

            SqlDataSource1.SelectCommand = "SELECT [StationId], [IP] FROM [Stations]";

The GridView populates normally, but the Update no longer works.  It changes the "Edit" link to "Update", gives the user the edit boxes, but when "Update" is clicked it never seems to write the new data to the database.  No error - it just doesnt work...

Any thoughts?  How can we change the SELECT command (and Connection String) dymamically and still retain the Update functionality?

Many thanks - Curt.  Code follows...

    protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
        // Doesn't work with or without this conditional
        //if (!IsCallback)
            SqlDataSource1.SelectCommand = "SELECT [StationId], [IP] FROM [Stations]";

need to store the value of Execute SQL(dynamic sql) into variable.

Hi guys, I need to store the value of my dynamic sql query into a variable

Basically i am passing a table name and then doing a count(*) to get the number of rows but having difficulty in storing the value of the Exec(@sql) into a variable.

Pls help

Select @sql = 'Select' + CAST(@TRCnt AS Varchar) + ' = count(*) From [' + @TTableName  + ']'

OLE DB Destination SQL command - how can I select from recordset variable?

How do I insert records from connection1 into a a table with the same name on connection2 where the records in connection2 do not already exist?

The approach I'm trying is this: I have an OLE DB Source that selects records from connection1 (successfully). The flow into a recordset destination in the Data Flow. But I can't figure out how to select from this recordset using the FROM CLAUSE of a SQL Command in the OLE DB Destination component. Can someone point me to an example of this?

It seems like this would be a common task but I can't find any examples.

Assign a local variable a value via dynamic sql

declare @myint int,

@query = varchar(4000)

set @query = "select max(id) from[" + dbo.fnGetDBName()  + "].dbo.mytable"

set @myint = exec @query  -- fails

DBCC Checkident reseed(mytable,reseed,@myint)

--more processing statements--

trouble is I cannot get @myint to be asigned.

I can take the long route and create a temp table and assign the value after selecting the first row. I tried sp_executesql which works, but nothing else is processed after that.

Dynamic Sub Menu Item Command Not working in WPF...MVVM

<MenuItem Header="Flag(s)" ItemsSource="{Binding Path=LineItemFlags}" >
                                <Style TargetType="{x:Type MenuItem}">

Adding a Command in a Dynamic MenuItem

Hello, and thank you for taking a look at this question.

I am developing my own Most Recent Used sub-menu. I have developed my main File Menu items (Open, Close, Save etc) in my XAML and included a binding for these to my commands which are defined in my ViewModel. These all work fine.

I have decided to save the file path and date into an XML file for simplicity. I can read this in and in my ViewModel I have a ListCollectionView property which exposes the XML elements. Still fine!

In my XAML I can bind my Recent Items sub-menu to the Filename item in my ListCollectionView without a problem, but I cannot seem to figure out how to bind each sub-menu item to a Command which will determine which file to open.

My XAML so far is as follows:

            x:Name="MainMenu" Background="#FFFFFFFF" BorderBrush="#FF000000" Margin="0,0,0,2.723" Grid.ColumnSpan="2" d:LayoutOverrides="Height, GridBox">
            <MenuItem Header="_File">
                <MenuItem Header="_Open" InputGestureText="Ctrl+O" Command="{Binding Path=OpenCommand}"/>
                <MenuItem Header="_New" InputGestureText="Ctrl+N" Command="{Binding Path=NewCommand}"/>
                <MenuItem Header="_Close" InputGestureText="Ctrl+Q" Command="{Binding Path=CloseCommand}"/>
                <MenuItem Heade

How to update a variable in Data Flow component of lookup has rows that don't find matches

I'm using SSIS 2008

I have a data flow that gets data from an Excel spreadsheet. It then does numerous lookups to my database to ensure that all the entities in the spreadsheet are present in my dimension tables. For each of these lookups, I redirect rows with "no matching entries" to be written to another spreadsheet which is then sent to an email address for action.

I have a Package scoped variable that I want to update if any of the lookups have rows with no matching entries. This is used later in the package to determine if it should proceed or not. So this variable only needs to be updated once if any of the lookups fail.

What are the options for doing this? What is the best way?
