Installation problem with SQL 2005 on Windows 2008 R2 x64 Failover Cluster

Posted By:      Posted Date: November 01, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi

I have built a Windows 2008 R2 x64 Failover Cluster and I need to install SQL 2005 Enterprise x64.

The SQL installation passes all checks and then fails as soon as it attempts to do the installation.

The error message in the Core(Local) log file is:

SQL 2005 in a Windows 2008 cluster: Problem getting SQL to start

hello,

I have windows 2008 cluster that was running sql 2005. We suffered a crash, lost the cluster disks, and had to restore them. We have the cluster back up and running but the SQL application in the cluster Services and Applications list is not longer available (or even in the list). I can't uninstall SQL and reinstall it, so I am at a loss as to what to do.

Is there anyway to recreate the SQL application in the cluster? or can I configure the clustered instance to be a standalone so I can uninstall?

Thanks for any help!

SQL server 2005 SP3 installation on windows server 2008 64 bit

Hi Guys, I was using SQL server 2008 64 bit with my application on windows server 2008 64 bit and all was working fine; then i decided to test SQL server 2005 SP3 64 bit to install on server 2008 64 bit, for this i first uninstalled SQL server 2008 64 bit and then downloaded the SQL server 2005 SP3 from the following address:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=ae7387c3-348c-4faa-8ae5-949fdfbe59c4

and after downloading this exe i started the installation and as soon the installation started i got the following display message that:

"this machine does not have the product that matches this installation package"

The link from where i have downloaded the SQL server 2005 SP3 64 bit file says that ti supports windows server 2008. I am using windows server 2008 Enterprise 64 bit having .NET framework 3.5SP1..

SQL 2008 Single Node cluster installation fails on Windows 2008

Environment:
SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition 64 Bit
Windows 2008 64 Bit SP2

SQL installation failed with this error message:

Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error

Please let me know what the issue is.

I found 2 solutions in net:

1. Add new registry key named DisableLoopbackcheck under "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\" and set to value 1

2. Set server principal name

SQL 2005/2008 on Windows Server 2008 R2 cluster - Service only starts when account is local admin

I have a single node Windows Server 2008 R2 cluster configured with SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition installed as a clustered instance.

I am having an issue where the SQL Server service will only start using TCP/IP when the service account is a member of the local admins group. To get SQL to install I had to add the sql server service account to the local admins group.

I have configured group policy with the permissions required for SQL Server 2008 and this is correctly applied to the node.

Errorlog shows the following...

SQLServer 2008 Tools and SQL 2005 Cluster

I recently built a SQL Server 2005 cluster on the o/s Windows Server 2008 R2.  I have been attempting to connect to the cluster from my Windows 7 dekstop with my SQL Server 2008 Tool set.  I have been unable to attach to this cluster since its creation. The firewall is temp off, remote connections in the surface area configuration is set to pipes and tcp/ip and the Browser surface is up and running. I ran Wireshark against the cluster and I could see that there was UDP conversations for ms-sql-m (SQL Port) but that was as far as it would get.  I am using a named instance so not using 1433, but I do see the cluster offering up high RPC ports but the client never responds after the initial UDP response. When I noticed that there was a two way conversation taking place, I went to a seperate machine and fired up SQL Server 2005 Tools and I was easily able to attach to the cluster.  So my question is - Are there any known incompatibilities between SQL Server 2005 cluster services and SQL Server 2008 Tool set?  I can use my 2008 tools to attach to a non-clustered SQL Server 2005 w/o issue.   Error when attempting to connect: A network-related or instance-specific error occured while establishing a connection to sql server.  The server was not found or was not accessible.  Verify that the instance name is correct and the SQL Server is con

SQL Server 2008 Setup requires .NET Framework 3.5 to be installed.   My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits, so already has de .NET Framework 3.5, I turned on/off a lot of times and the same error occurs! SQL Server 2005 - Installation in Cluster Environment - "Service SQL Server Browser (SQLBrowser) fai

Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition SP2 32-bit All updates and patches installed Two-node cluster environment configured. Cluster functions perfectly. Trying to install SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition (32-bit) as a clustered application. Installation proceeds fine until it begins to install the SQL Server Database Services product. Status window says "Starting Services. Service: SQL Server Browser". Error message is presented: "Service 'SQL Server Browser' (SQLBrowser) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services". SQL Server Service Account is in the Administrators group on both local systems, and is a domain account. Account used for the installation is in the Administrators group on both local systems, and is a domain account. Have cancelled out of the install and rebooted both servers numerous times. Exact same error continues to occur. Cluster is active and all resources are owned by node #1 - the node where SQL Server Installation is being run. In the event viewer, I see: Event ID: 10 Description: The SQLBrowser service was unable to establish SQL instance and connectivity discovery". I am also seeing errors like: Source: SQLBrowser. SQL 2008 Installation problem (Could not fix registry key)

Hello, I want to install SQL 2008 client tools on a Win 2008 machine. The machine already contains an instance of SQL 2005 Express which I don't want to unistall. The problem is that the installation wizard complains about Consistency Validation for SQL registry keys. The log shows the following: 2010-08-26 10:14:46 Slp: Could not fix registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSSQLServer\Client\ConnectTo. 2010-08-26 10:14:46 Slp: System.NullReferenceException: Referencia a objeto no establecida como instancia de un objeto. 2010-08-26 10:14:46 Slp:    en Microsoft.SqlServer.Configuration.FixSqlRegistryKey.Program.ContainsInheritedAce(Byte[] securityDescriptor) 2010-08-26 10:14:46 Slp:    en Microsoft.SqlServer.Configuration.FixSqlRegistryKey.Program.FixRegistryKey(String keyName) 2010-08-26 10:14:46 Slp:    en Microsoft.SqlServer.Configuration.FixSqlRegistryKey.Program.FixRegistryKeyAndSubKeys(RegistryKey key) I have created the "ConnecTo" key, which didn't even exist. I have also tried to set premissions to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSSQLServer to "Everyone/Full Control" but the installation fails over and over. Is there anything else I could try to get the SQL tools installed? Thanks in advance.

Windows 2008 R2/SQL 2008 SP1 CU5 active/active cluster keeps failing

I have set up many of the same clusters in the last few months, but this cluster specifically has been having lots of problems lately.  OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 latest patches SQL: SQL Server 2008 SP1 CU5 (version: 10.0.2746) Disks: VMAX SAN In the very beginning when I set up the cluster, the cluster validation kept failing when I tried to add a node.  Turned out that we had to unjoin the servers from the domain and rejoin.  Right after that the cluster validation succeeded, the second node joined the cluster, and quorum was changed to "Node and Disk Majority".  SQL was installed and set up as active/active (one sql instance on each node).  No issues then until SQL server was actually in use.  Symptoms: SQL server has heavy ETL processing plus being a subscriber of a sql replication.  The following errors first started on 4/24 when I set up sql replication (these servers are replication subscribers): EventID: 1127, Source: FailoverCluster, Task Category: Network Manager Cluster network interface 'man1fscl01a - Hartbeat to man1fscl91b' for cluster node 'man1fscl01a' on network 'ClusterHeartBeat' failed. Run the Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network configuration. If the condition persists, check for hardware or software errors related to the network adapter. Also check for failures in any other network comp
