ASP Development Server doesn't appear to execute JQuery?

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 26, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Experienced a really strange problem today. I added a jquery script to my MVC application to collapse sections of a View (via divs).

Pretty standard stuff, he showed me the script working before hand and it works.

However any time I would run my MVC app via Visual Studio the script would not work. I changed browsers, re-imported the code from source control and basically me and my co-worker banged our heads together for some time trying to figure out why the exact same code was running different on two machines.

Publishing the MVC app to our web server and running worked for both machines but for some bizarre reason when I ran it on my VS it never did.

One thought that came to mind is that by VS uses the cassini default lightweight webserver for debugging, whereas my co-worker is using IIS.

This seems to suggest then that the ASP Development server does not support JQuery. Is this true and if not, what could the problem be?

Disabling Button with jQuery doesn't send state back to server

Before I go the route of using hidden fields or something similar, is there any way to send back to the server changes to the disabled state of an ASP.net Button control?  I have a Button that is initially enabled and I disable it via jQuery on the client.  Works great.  The only problem is when I do a PostBack the server still thinks the Button is enabled and sends back a response that changes it back to enabled.  Why doesn't the ViewState send back the current disabled status of the Button?  Is there a way to force it to postback the changes?  Other ASP.net controls, like the CheckBox, do send back the state changes to the server.  Seems odd to me.

Anyone know the reason behind this behavior and/or how to fix it?

Thanks!

call JavaScript - jQuery code from ASP.NET Server-Side

jQuery got so close to me lately that I can see myself adding the scripts to my project almost unconsciously. The thing is, jQuery is very useful for me, in almost all situations and it has been a do or die enhancement for all my project since I first put my hands on it.

Of course while using it, you encounter few situations which need a bit of research to solve, mostly when you are trying to combine it with some other technologies like: UpdatePanels and ASP.NET Ajax. For instance there are many situations when I would like to run some jQuery magic based on some decision that I make on the server side.

Making Ajax Callbacks to the Server Using jQuery with ASP.NET

In the first part of this article series I introduced jQuery's functionality and how it provides a rich client side programming model. This time around I'll expand on these concepts and show you how you can use jQuery in combination with ASP.NET using it as an AJAX backend to retrieve data. I'll also discuss how you can create ASP.NET controls and otherwise interact with jQuery content from ASP.NET pages in WebForms.

jQuery is just a JavaScript library so it will work seamlessly with ASP.NET both from page code as well as through backend driven code using the Page.ClientScript object or ScriptManager. You can use jQuery on its own as a client side and Ajax library that communicates with ASP.NET or you can use jQuery in combination with ASP.NET AJAX. The two actually complement each other quite well as jQuery provides functionality that the ASP.NET AJAX library does not and vice versa. For the most part the interaction between the two libraries is trouble free except for a few very rare edge cases.

HttpContext.Items and Server.Transfer/Execute

The problem was basically that when a Server.Transfer call was applied the script container (and also various ClientScriptProxy script embedding routines) would potentially fail to load up the specified scripts.

I had VWD and ASP.NET 2.0 before but  removed everything before installing VS2005. Do you hav eany idea why is this happening.

HttpHandler works with Visual Studio Development Server debugging, but not otherwise

Hi all,

I'm new to HttpHandlers.  I am writing an HttpHandler that reads uploaded files directly from the request stream to provide progress that can be queried using an AJAX request.  For large files, this seems to be faster than having ASP.NET load the file contents into Request.Files and then streaming the file from there to wherever it goes (Linq to SQL into a VARBINARY column in an SQL Server database.)

My HttpHandler works perfectly when I'm debugging using the Visual Studio Development Server, but doesn't work otherwise.  The application pool for this application in IIS 7 is set to run in Classic Mode, and the Handler Mappings screen in IIS says that I must manage managed handlers in system.web/httpHandlers.

I set up in my applications Web.config file.

<add verb="GET,POST" path="*.upload" type="Namespace.For.UploadHandler, AssemblyForUploadHandler"/>

It works great, so long as I don't debug with the "Use Local IIS Web server" option.

What else do I need to do to get this to work?

Thanks!

SQL Server 2000: New XML Features Streamline Web-centric App Development

With XML support in SQL Server 2000, you can query SQL over HTTP with a URL, bring the data down to the browser, and manipulate it on the client machine. By adding Internet Explorer 5.0 to the mix and using XSL to convert the XML to HTML, you can lighten the load on your database server. Going still one step further, by using Vector Markup Language you can even create drawings on the fly using the data from your SQL queries. This article illustrates this combination of technologies by leading you through the creation of a Web app that queries a digitized street map database that's been imported into a SQL Server database, sorts and displays the data using XML, and draws maps using VML.

AsyncPostBackTrigger doesn't work on server..

Hi,
I am new to asp.net and ajax. I have a problem while using update panel.
I have a tabcontainer with 3-4 tab panels. Inside one tab panel there is a cancel button. What i want to do is to when i hit cancel button in code behind i change active tab index to 0 so that tabcontainer shows first tab panel. I have update panel around tab container. This works at my localhost. But on server its behavior is very random. Sometimes it works sometime it doesn't. Unfortunately I am not able to debug it also. I don't know how to debug code on server. As on localhost it works correctly so I am kind of stuck.

Saving JQuery date back to SQL Server

Hi..my web app uses lots of asp:textboxes and I can save this data back to SQL Server easily using a stored procedure..

however my JQuery datepicker uses an input textbox, how do I save the date entered into this control.

<input id="datepicker"type="text" /> back to server and can I use the same stored procedure that I use for the other data?

thanks

SQL Server doesn't exist or access denied while connecting with Access 2010 ODBC

Hello all. I am using Access 2010 and SQL Server 2008 (locally). I can easily connect to server using SSMS and it works excellent. But when I want to import a table to Access 2010 using ODBC, it says that "SQL Server doesn't exist or access denied". It worked previously - almost 3 days ago, but now, it doesn't! Please help! Replication Wizard doesn't like SQL Server Alias

I tried creating a new replication but I get an error that says, "SQL Server replication requires the actual sever name to make the connection to the server. Connections through a server alias, IP address, or any other alternate name are not supported. Specifiy the actual server name, 'SomeMachineNumber'." I don't get this. Why can't I use an alias? I googled and found few articles but not sure if I understand what others are talking about. Here is how I have things set up and I'm hoping someone can explain to me what is happening. On my machine, I have the following alias set up. Alias Name: SQLDEV, Port No: 2433, Protocol: TCP/IP, Server: SomeMachineNumber In Mgmt Studio, I can connect to the server SomeMachineNumber by using the alias SQLDEV. However, if I try to create a new publication on SQLDEV, I get the above error. Now, just for the heck of it, I created another alias using the same properties as above except, I named the alias the same as the server, "SomeMachineNumber". I connect to the server in Mgmt Studio using the new alias, and now I am able to create the new publication. Does this make sense? Am I not still using an alias in the second example? Why does the replication seemingly like the alias "SomeMachineNumber", but not "SQLDEV"?

Unable to connect to the ASP.NET Development Server

After this error, I continusly get  "Unable to connect to the ASP.NET Development Server." whenever I run the website. I checked the internet and ASP.NET forum and tried all the following Making port numbers auto assign Making it to a specific port number using the Custom web server Tried creating new web site and checking Replaced WebDev.WebServer.EXE after downloading it from a website My anti virus have not blocked any websites as such I tried resetting VS settings by running devenv /resetsettings Can any one help me, what else might be the problem? Thanks in advance

why can't i run silverlight w/ wcf in iis but VS2010 built-in ASP.Net development server?

Both VS200 and IIS are in my local machine. Suppose they have the same permission. I create a silverlight4 w/ wcf ria service project. The project runs well in VS2010 built-in ASP.Net development server. It doesn't work well after i publish it to IIS. I only can see its static content but not the .svc. i try to browse the .svc, it always show HTTP 500 error. I doubt if i do not open the asp.net runtime setting sth in IIS? Thanks!
