Binding with objects using codebehind

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 26, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

How can I bind an object to a dropdown list or gridview ? I am writing an application where my code behind calls an instance  and bind the list to either dropdown or gridview.

For example:

.aspx page:  default.aspx

<asp:dropdownlist  id="dd1"   runat="server" />

Code Behind:  default.VB

Partial Class Services_Default

    Inherits System.Web.UI.Page

    Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As   System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load

      Dim objlist As New services()

         Dd1.datasource = objlist.GetServices()

         Dd1.datatextfield = ?

         DD1.datatextfieldvalue = ?

End sub

End Class

APP_CODE :  Service.VB

    Public Class Services

    Public Function GetServices()

    Dim mylist As New Arraylist()

    Dim myconn As New SqlConne

Declaring the SqlConnection and SqlCommand objects in a webform without CodeBehind

Declaring the SqlConnection and SqlCommand objects in a webform without CodeBehindI am trying to query data from a MS SQL server with a C# web form without "CodeBehind". I want to write the information to a table in the web form's body.I am having trouble declaring the SqlConnection and SqlCommand objects that connect to the server.How do you use "using System;", "using System.Data;", "using System.Data.SqlClient" inside the script element of an .ASPX file?I know how to do it with JavaScript and ADO. (code below)---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------<html><head><table><%@ language="javascript" %><%var sqlstr = " ";var conn_str = " ";var AdOpenForwardOnly = 0;var adLockReadOnly = 1;var rs = new ActiveXObject("ADODB.Recordset");var conn = new ActiveXObject("ADODB.Connection");conn_str = "PROVIDER=SQLOLEDB;Server=my_server;" +"Database=db_myDatabase;User ID=myUserID;" +"Password=myPassword;"sqlstr = "SELECT * FROM [myTable]";conn.open(conn_str, "", "");rs.open(sqlstr, conn, AdOpenForwardOnly, adLockReadOnly);while(!rs.eof){Response.write("<tr><td>" + rs(0));Response.write("</td><td>"+ rs(1));Response.write("</td><td>"+ rs

Problem binding business objects to custom user control properties

I have created a user control (supplierPicker) intended to allows a supplier database to be searched and a supplier selected. I want to be able to use this control in a number of other user controls, by binding the suppplierID property of the supplierPicker to a supplierID property in a business object, which is set as the datacontext of the parent user control. When I do this, and there is a supplierID specified in the business ofbject, the binding sets the supplierID in the supplierPicker control and it shows the correct supplier name in the textbox. However when the supplierID DependencyProperty is changed from within the supplierPicker the newly selected supplier name is shown in the TextBox, but the SupplierID does not propogate back to the business object. Other controls on the parent form work fine, so the binding to the business object seems to be ok. Any pointers as to what I'm doing wrong here would be grately appreciated.  This one has been driving me nuts for days! Snipped code for the supplier picker:         public partial class SupplierPicker : UserControl, INotifyPropertyChanged     {         public static DependencyProperty SupplierIDProperty;         public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChan

Binding a TreeView to a collection of objects

I want to achieve this:

through data binding. That is, I've got this collection of objects of the same class (currently stored in a ArrayList), and I want to display them in a treeview, so that when you expand them you can see the values of their attributes.

Is it possible to do it via DataBinding?

WPF / Silverlight tutorial: Visibility property and binding

Binding Nested Listviews in MVC ViewPage

I am a longtime .NET developer but for big applications and services.  This is my first asp.net project and I have chosen MVC.   I have a need for nesting a ListView within a ListView.  In this simple catalog app, I have EF 4 Entities that are Categories, SubCategories, ItemTypes, and Items.

My goal is to display a 5 column layout of SubCategories with their ItemTypes below them in a ViewPage.  I did just fine with it done out in C# as server directives such as:

    var subcats = Model.SubCategory.ToArray();
    var nrSubCats = subcats.Count();
    var rows = (nrSubCats/5) + (((nrSubCats % 5) > 0) ? 1 : 0);
    for (var row = 0; row < rows; row++)
    { %>
        <div style="width: 100%; float: left; clear: right;">
        var start = row * 5;
        for (var i = start; (i < start + 5) && (i < nrSubCats); i++)
        var subcat = subcats[i];
            <div style="float: left; clear: right; width: 20%; margin-left: 5;">
                <h2> <%:subcat.Name%></h2>
                    foreach (var its in subcat.ItemType)

How to check for null/empty strings on dynamic objects?

What is the proper way to check for null or empty strings on dynamic objects? This is the only solution I've found so far:

if (admin.PasswordHash.GetType() == typeof(DBNull) || admin.PasswordHash == string.Empty)

If the field is null, the object returned is DBNull.Value, but if the field is empty string, it's return as a System.String object. This makes it impossible to do regular "admin.PasswordHash == DBNull.Value" check, as that will fail whenever the field has been set to empty string. Is my example the right (and only) way to go?

how to serialize objects ??

Is there any way or process to serialize the the objects?? i am trying to store the instance of few control in viewstate but it shows error msg that it is not a serialized object. should i perform some steps to serialize the objects ???
