Pick up old local users on new server with new local users with same name

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 26, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi, All!

I has old server with name "test", worked with SQL server 2008 and Sharepoint 2007 SP2. There was five users like "user1", "user2", etc. They have content on main page "http://test" and some data at mysite host "http://test:81". Well I create new server with the same name "test", create all users "user1", "user2", etc, then i add them to shared services profiles with the same names like in old server. Then from old server backup content base from MS SQL server for applications on 80 and 81 port, and restore them on new server. Then I make commands "stsadm -o addcontentdb -url http://test -databasename wss_content_80" and "stsadm -o addcontentdb -url http://test:81 -databasename wss_content_81". Then I delete databases which created when i create new web applications from sharepoint central administration. and did iisreset. Well all data and settings picked up, BUT all user ID were old. So question is: how i can compare old users to new? I want to compare old and new users everywhere in DBs wss_content_80 and wss_content_81. Like replace old ID with new ID

MOSS 2007 can only grant permissions to users in the local domain...

Greetings all,

Where ever I go and attempt to add a user to a group or to grant permissions to a user I am never able to select users from other domains.  The only users I can select are users in the domain where MOSS 2007 was installed.  Is there a setting in MOSS that I need to change to be able to add users from other domains to groups in SharePoint?

Thanks for any and all insights.

Can't Create ODBC to Local SQL Server Express 2008

Hello. I have SQL Server Express 2008 SP1 LOCALLY on my Windows XP Professional SP3 box. I have databases already created in Access 2007 that I imported into SQL. Now I want to keep the front end Access forms for data entry but have them connect to the databases in SQL. What I can't seem to do is connect from Access to the SQL db's because I can't create the ODBC connection. When I try to connect, I get the following two 'Connection failed' errors: 1. SQLState: '08001' SQL Server Error: 10061 [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0]TCP Provider: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. 2. SQLState: 'HYT00' SQL Server Error: 0 [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0]Login timeout expired Additionally, this information may help. 1. Windows firewall is turned off. 2. In SQL Server Configuration Manager > SQL Server Network Configuration > Protocols for SQLEXPRESS, Shared Memory, Named Pipes and TCP/IP are all 'Enabled'. The order is Shared Memory (1), Named Pipes (2) and TCP/IP (3). 3. In SQL Server Configuration Manager > SQL Native Client 10.0 Configuration > Client Protocols, the above three are also 'Enabled'. The order is Shared Memory (1), Named Pipes (2) and TCP/IP (3). Double-clicking TCP/IP tells me that the default port is 1433. 4. Running "netstat -ano", I see no entries for [myIPaddress]:1433.

Please Help Installing SQL Management Studio (not Express) w/ local SQL Server Express

I have recently formatted my hard drive and over the past few days I've been reloading my software.  I have installed on my machine SQL Server Express 2005 SP3.  I prefer to have SQL Express running on my development machine because that is what my customers primarily use.  I also have a full MSDN license, and I would need to install SQL Management Studio 2005.  However, when I download the SQL Server 2005 Developer ISO from MSDN, and run the setup file I get an error message that states: Installation of Microsoft SQL Server Native Client failed because a higher version already exists on the machine.  To proceed, uninstall the higher version and then run Microsoft SQL Server Native Client Setup. I would assume the problem is that the copy of SQL Server - Dev Edition that is available through my MSDN subscription is using an earlier version of SQL Server 2005 (most likely the version prior to SP1.)  I would just unistall SQL Server Express 2005 SP3 and reinstall it with out any service pack updates.  The problem is that I also see within my Add or Remove Programs list  four SQL Server 2008 R2 entries, that I believe were installed when I installed Visual Studio Pro 2010 (they are, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Data-Tier Application Framework, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Data-Tier Application Project, Microsoft SQL Server 20

Can't connect to SQL 2005 Enterprise using Management Studio with Server Name (only (local) works

This is a test system, everything running locally & no domains. Win 2003 Ent. Server & SQL Server 2005 Enterprise. I can't log into SQL Server Management Studio using the server name & using either Windows Authentication or SQL login. If I change the name of the server in the drop-down list to "(local)", I connect just fine (both Windows & SQL security modes). Shared Memory, Named Pipes & TCP/IP enabled in both server & client. Remote connections allowed. I have IP adresses (both & external IP) in my hosts file pointing to the server name. Does SQL require a DNS server? This wouldn't be a problem except for the fact that I can't install SQL 2005 SP3 due to authentication failure since there's no way to enter (local) as the server name. SQL tools (management studio, SP install) seem to see the SQL server running but won't authenticate the user through any means other than setting server name to (local). This is driving me crazy!!!

Server 2008 R2 Express accepts only local connections?

My question SQL Server 2008 R2 Express accepts only local connections? [closed] was closed unanswered and my account (with the same username/nick vgv8) was banned in 1 min without any warning and notification from all StackExchange sites (StackOverFlow.com, ServerFault.com, SuperUser.com). I could not understand can MS SQL Server 2008 R2 Express  accept remote connections? And what are local connections - in the same subnetwork, AD, workgroup, the same machine?

SSIS Deployment Reads local Environment Variable and not Server

Hi All, I have an SSIS package that uses an Environment variable to hold the connection string for the local SSISConfiguration table.  This works properly on my local machine.  However, when I import the package to Integration Services(through SSMS) it reads the environment variable from the local machine and not the server it is deployed to.  If I log on to the server remotely and do the same process it uses the the correct environment varible... (SQL Server 2005) Is there a way to deploy the package to the server and get it to use the correct Env variable without having to log-in to the server and import it?  Let me know if anyone is looking for additional information.   Thanks!

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local appl

Hello everybody.I am working on Login control and I am new in ASP.NET. So far what I did is :1. In Website->ASP.NET Configuration I change the form authentication to internet.2. I created a user profile3. This gave me a ASPNETDB.mdf database.4. I added this code :<connectionStrings> <remove name="LocalSqlServer" /> <add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="data source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> </connectionStrings> in web.config file.4. I added login control to my login page :<%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/MasterPage.master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="Login.aspx.cs" Inherits="Login" Title="Untitled Page" %><asp:Content ID="MainContent" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContentPlaceHolder" Runat="Server"> <h1>Please Login</h1> <asp:Login ID="LoginAuth" runat="server" > </asp:Login></asp:Content> 5. And the login.aspx.cs file has :using System;using System.Collections;using System.Configuration;using System.Data;using System.Linq;using System.Web;using System.Web.Security;using System.Web.UI;using System.Web.UI.HtmlControls;using System.W

Polling FTP-Server and downloading files to our local directory on regular intervals

Issue regarding downloading same file again and again. Let me be clear, I am using SSIS to poll FTP Server on regular intervals to download different files to my local directory. Once the file is downloaded I need to load the file name into table and validate that particular file name against FTP Server next time when I am polling, so that I don't download same file again.                              Question here is how could I implement this either using SSIS or VB Script ???

Checking SQL Server User Roles and Creating SQL Server Users using VB.NET

Hello gurus!Firstly I want to apologies if this question is out of place here.. if someone can direct me to the correct forumn great and Thanks!I have a VB.NET application which uses its own Backend Database (MSSQL Server). I need to distribute this application to sites where there will be an existing SQL Server. So I will need to Create the Database on this server. The Application includes methods for building the database on startup if not already connected to one. However the users windows logon may not have the correct permission to connect and create a Database on the Server. I have a DB Setup form in my application which asks for the Servname, Username, Password and Database name. I have catered for Windows Authentication and SQL Server Authentication within the form - the user makes the choice.Assuming they enter a Username and Password for SQL Server Athentication then I will be trying to connect using this user and create the database on the given server. The following is my outline logic:-                                                                  Create db Process                                                                             |                                                                             |                                                               Check Credentials                                                                   /

Synchronizing Local SQL Server Database to Remote Database

I have production server on our intranet and we have website on remote server with its own database. Now we want to sync some tables from our local database to remote database at some interval of time. I have own idea that if data sync is fail than we should get email about that from remote database. For above scenario I was looking some ideas from you guys and different method to do it. I know about replication of database how to do that. Can we do it by asp.net, SSIS package  which will be easy. I need more information on SSIS package how we can do that.thank you.

Permission Errors for Users on Home Page only of SQL Server Reporting Services Report Manager

I have spent days now investigating this problem, so any help very much appreciated! I have a remote web server 2003 running SQL Server R2 Express Edition with Reporting Services installed. I use Report Builder 3.0 locally to build report. If I login via Internet to Report Manager Web Page as an administrator I can perform all the expected and required actions, creating new folders and assigning permissions for users etc. I have added a new user "ReportUser" as a Browser of a child folder. If ReportUser longs on to home page, he receives the all too familiar error: User 'XXXXXXXX\reportuser' does not have required permissions. Verify that sufficient permissions have been granted and Windows User Account Control (UAC) restrictions have been addressed. However, if the user starts at the child folder of home page, and then logs in, he sees the expected page, and can run the report!  This is not very satisfactory. How can I allow user to see home page, without an error message, but not be allowed to click on any folders to which he is not entitled? I am now aware that SQL Server R2 Express Edition has many limitations compared with full Editions (fixed roles, cannot manage Report Service from Management Studio etc) , and many of the "solutions" offered on the web just do not apply.   John Walton
