How to Set a list item's createdby or modifiedby field as a User(deleted from AD)

I have to migrate data from SQL DB to SP list. But its old data and some users who created/modified the record has been deleted from the AD. Now I need to set the CreatedBy / ModifiedBy Field of the item accordingly. How to achieve this?

And when I tried to modify the "Editor" and "Author" field through Object Model, it works. But its not working through Webservice. What is the reason behind this?

Please help me find an optimal solution for this...

Thanks and Regards,

User keeps getting deleted from MOSS site

Hello All, There is one user with contribute rights who keeps getting deleted from a team sub site that is on MOSS 2007. She has weekly reports that she works on and i was told that she doesnt really get on to the site very often except once or twice a week to update the reports. There is only one business owner of the site apart from me and who can modify permissions. So i cannot think of anybody else who has access to mess with user permissions. Has anybody had this issue before ?

Can anyone tell me, what the article is saying or Anyone has any solution.

New to Sharepoint companyweb and deleted all folder permissions by mistake

Hello.  I am just delving into the world of Sharepoint and testing to see if it will help our company meet it's needs for accessing files remotely as well as giving us collaberation abilities we currently don't have.  We recently purchased a new Windows 2008 Small Business Server which includes Sharepoint 3.0 and I've been messing around with the companyweb page.  My current goal is to emulate how we are using network drives.  There is a drive for each department and then a shared drive where common files for eveyrone are stored.  Rights are maintained using security groups. In the companyweb, inside the Document's section I created a new library named "Department Files" then within that created folders for Accounting, Customer Service, HR etc.  Being completely new to Sharepoint I was editing the permissions to the Accounting folder but forgot to add the domain administrator before deleting the existing rights.  Now the folder is no longer visible and I can't figure out how to edit the rights to it. The permissions that were removed were: CompanyWeb Members, CompanyWeb Owners, and CompanyWeb Visitors. Where can I go to see this hidden directory and change/restore the permissions?  Since this is all testing stuff I can also delete it and start again.  There isn't any info that I need to worry about retaining at thi

Adding back deleted User Profile Property

I've made a bit of an error. My SharePoint User Synchroniztion was all setup and working with My Sites and My Profile but the address was being duplicated. I removed one of the user profile properties under the contact collection. Now SharePoint can't render the My Profile pages. With logging turned up I get the following:

Unhandled exception caught during execution of Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.PageBase::ErrorHandler()

Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.PropertyNotDefinedException: Property Not Defined: SPS-Location.  An administrator must create this property in the Profile Administration tool.    at

Problem is if I try to recreate a User Property with the name SPS-Location it won't let me so how do I get this back?

Access Mysites information of a deleted AD user

How can i access the Mysite data of a deleted Active Directory account.

Person create a mysite and stored some information. If the person deleted from the AD, how can i access his/her mysite information. What are the possible ways.

1) If i add the user back in AD and login into the site. Click on Mysite link is trying to create the new Mysite instead of pulling the old one.

2) If the AD account is deactivated for some period and again activated then also it is not pulling the old Mysite.

3) How can i delete the Mysite of a person, whose account is deleted from AD?

No item exists at. It may have been deleted or renamed by another user.

I've searched and seen 5 older unsolved posts regarding this question and I'm hoping someone has stumbled onto an answer since.  I use windows auth. in SharePoint and while managing permissions for a single list instance (so a user can edit/view just this instance), it correctly sends the email with the link to the user, but when the recipient clicks the link in the email I get the following error.  If I click the link it works fine since I have access to any list instance.  Anyone solved this?  I've seen one post off-site that says they had to rebuild the form to get it to work.  I really like to avoid that since it is quite large and would take some time.

No item exists at http://server/sites/Security/Lists/Incidents/DispForm.aspx?ID=211.  It may have been deleted or renamed by another user.

Surrogate vs Natural Primary Keys - Data Modeling Mistake 2 of 10

In case you're new to the series I've compiled a list of ten data modeling mistakes that I see over and over that I'm tackling one by one. I'll be speaking about these topics at the upcoming IASA conference in October, so I'm hoping to generate some discussion to at least confirm I have well founded arguments.

The last post in this series Referential Integrity was probably less controversial than this one. After all, who can argue against enforcing referential integrity? But as obvious as surrogate keys may be to some, there is a good deal of diversity of opinion as evidenced by the fact that people continue to not use them.

MS SQL Server: Disconnect Users From Database - Kill User Session

If you ever wanted to restore your database from a SQL backup file (.bak), but there are still users connected to your database, the backup operation will fail causing the error: Exclusive access could not be obtained because the database is in use.

Choosing Between a User Control or Web Part for SharePoint

SharePoint will only display Web Parts on a page. However, there are publicly available shims that allow you to write user controls and have them be displayed as a Web Part. From SharePoint's point of view, the shim is a Web Part. From the point of view of the user control, the shim is simply a control in .NET that is including the user control

Creating Sites/Lists/List Items under Current User Context in SharePoint By Using SPUserToken

Usually we do this by performing the action under RunWithElevatedPrivileges method and updating the listitem using SPListItem.SystemUpdate() method (see here). but this approach has its own flaws like (RunWithElevatedPrivileges will run under system account, we cannot use SystemUpdate for SPSite,SPWeb,SPList, since it runs under system we will "CreatedBy" by as SystemAccount).

How to track the changes of user contacts(colleagues) by using SharePoint API

We might have seen colleague tracker web part which keep tracks the changes made in our contacts/colleagues details like profile/lists/sites. The same tracking mechanism can be implemented by using MOSS API in any custom web part/ web control/ feature/web service...

UserProfile.GetColleagueChanges is the method which returns all changes happened with the contacts, this method also accepts a Query (UserProfileChangeQuery) where we can specify different parameters to filter the changes

User Defined Functions in Microsoft SQL Server

User Defined Functions are compact pieces of Transact SQL code, which can accept parameters, and return either a value, or a table. They are saved as individual work units, and are created using standard SQL commands. Data transformation and reference value retrieval are common uses for functions. LEFT, the built in function for getting the left part of a string, and GETDATE, used for obtaining the current date and time, are two examples of function use. User Defined Functions enable the developer or DBA to create functions of their own, and save them inside SQL Server.

Building Re-Usable ASP.NET User Control and Page Libraries with VS 2008

I am having problems with a user control. I want my solution to have a separate project for holding my user controls.

The main project can get a reference to this user control project and can import this user control dll into my main project.

Thanks in advance,

Multiple Instances of User Control

I have a user control that I place on a page severl times.  When I make a selection on a ddl in one one control the SelectedIndexChanged event fires for all the control on the page for that ddl.  So I get duplication of an insert that I do.  Is there a way to make sure these events are isolated so this doesn't happen.
