VPN Connection Causes Errors In SSRS Authentication

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi all,

My web app uses SQL 2008 Express on the same machine as the web application. My calls to SSRS are local only, made to localhost, port 8080. Everything works fine on my development machine, except when I log in to VPN with one of my customers. Then suddenly, calls to the report server on my local machine return 401 Authentication Errors. If I log off VPN, everything works again.

Can anyone explain what happens to my credentials when I log in to VPN? I'm trying to understand why it happens, in case it is something I need to be aware of downstream. I am using SQL Server Authentication to access the database.

SSRS 2005 "Mixed" Authentication Mode

I have a web application where users can authenticate using either SiteMinder or Windows domain accounts.  This is actually configured as two separate virtual directories within IIS 6.  Both applications need to use the same instance of SSRS.  Is it possible to configure the SSRS web application so that if a user is authenticated by SiteMinder it impersonates a Windows account, but if they are already Windows-authenticated that account is used instead?

How to impersonate a connection to SQL server under IIS app pool account if Windows Authentication i

I have a requirement I should connect to MS SQL server under IIS Application pool account from ASP.NET application where Windows Authentication is enabled. I cannot use user name and password in connection string. ASP.NET application should use Entity Framework 4.0 to work with data. Any ideas how to do it?

A connection could not be made to the report server - Problem deploying an SSRS report from Business

I’m having trouble with what seems to be a common issue for people, regarding deployment of an SSRS report from Business Intelligence Development Studio. Unfortunately none of the solution I have seen posted here (and elsewhere) have been able to help me so far.   Two of my collegaues can both deploy with no problem, and I am using exactly the same Target destinations as them (TargetDataSourceFolder, TargetReportFolder, TargetServerURL).   I have posted the error message below, which from my basic understaning would indicate, I think, a security issue (perhaps something local to my PC, or user account)   Has anyone experienced this particular issue who might be able to help?   Best wishes, Jamie TITLE: Microsoft Report Designer ------------------------------ A connection could not be made to the report server http://turpin-net.turpin-bg.local/Reportserver. ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Client found response content type of 'text/html; charset=utf-8', but expected 'text/xml'. Schedule reports with integrated authentication SSRS 2008

Hi All,  Having an issue with SSRS 2008 at the moment, trying to setup subscriptions. Our system is configured so that any one of 10 users can login to the SSRS website using their windows domain account, and then launch report builder to design and save reports.  This all works very well, however, they have a problem when trying to setup subscriptions - the famous "Subscriptions cannot be created because the credentials used to run the report are not stored....." What the message says is true - the credentials are not stored as they are supplied by the user when they login to report builder. Is the /any/ workaround at all that doesn't involve storing the credentials?  It seems totally crazy that they cannot be prompted for them when setting up the subscription.  For this application its 100% essential to make the user provide their credentials when running reports, because they each see a filtered subset of the data in the report model (this is controlled DB side depeding on the login account), so their domain account needs to be passed to SQL server to enable this filtering to work.  If we saved their credentials then they would see all the data..and thats nasty. The only workaround I can come up with would be to create  a separate datasource for each user and upload a separate model, but thats really nasty to be hones

ASP.NET Connection to SSRS RDL

I'm trying to connect to an SSRS RDL for the first time in a hosted environment. I have specified the URL as required by the host:   ReportViewer1.ProcessingMode = ProcessingMode.Remote; ReportViewer1.ServerReport.ReportServerUrl = new Uri("https://reportserverurl/"); ReportViewer1.ServerReport.ReportPath = "ReportName";   How do I provide username/password to the above?

ODBC connection to SQL Server 2005 Standard (on windows xp) with Windows authentication does NOT wor

I reviewed lots of postings, still could not find an answer. If I choose Windows authentication: - with TCP/IP and "Dynamically determine port" checked, I get the following error "The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection; - with Named Pipes, Server Name & Pipe Name as "VSAXAONG", I get two errors, one after the other on the same pop-up:       Connection failed  SQL State 01000  SQL Server Error 1385 [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [Named Pipes] ConnectionOpen (Connect()).       Connection failed  SQL State 08001 SQL Server Error 17 [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [Named Pipes] SQL Server does not exist or access denied. If I choose SQL Server authentication and fill in the password - the ODBC connection works fine. I have to say that I created two different logins on the server, one for Windows authentication, and one for SQL Server authentication - both for the same Windows user name. I would appreciate any help I can get on this.  Thank you all in advance.

U?sing Forms Authentication and connecting between SSRS ans SSAS

In our current production environment, we have SSRS setup to use Forms Authentication to verify the users. For our data sources, we are using 2 different data models - 1 is used to point at the "raw" sql in the database - and the second model is to point at a SSAS cube. currently, all users can see all data. we now have a requirement to limit the data the a user can see from the Fact table dependant on the Portion that they are assigned to (and a user might be assigned to more than one Portion. we have set this new requirement in the "raw" SQL model using a security filter - and all working well we have set the filtering up in the cube  - using a stored procedure in the Role "dimension data" tab which receives the user name and retruns the MDX required for the filtering - and it works if we connect to the cube via SQL management studio. However, if we connect from Reporting Services, we can not get the UserName "transferred over" and therefore the filtering doesnt work. n.b. we are using Shared data sources for our reports does anyone out there know of a way of making this work - or do we go for Kerberos ??

SSRS 2008 Custom Authentication works when using ReportServer url but not when report manager url is

Hi, I am using SSRS 2008 with Custom security extension for authentication. The extension is developed in c#. I have placed the dll under report server bin and report manager bin directory and the logon, login pages under appropriate directory. My reports manager url is http://localhost:port/Reports and my reports server url is http://localhost:port/ReportServer. When I try to login through reports manager url, I am getting 'login failed' error message from the dll. But when I try to login using reports server url, it works. I have also set 'FullTrust' named permission set in RSMgrPolicy.config . <CodeGroup class="FirstMatchCodeGroup" version="1" PermissionSetName="FullTrust" Description="This code group grants MyComputer code Execution permission. "> < IMembershipCondition class = " ZoneMembershipCondition " version = " 1 " Zone = " MyComputer " /> Any suggestions please!   Thanks!

Cannot create a connection to data source !!!! SSRS 2005

I cannot get this error resolve either for myself or any users, and I'm actually part of the Admin group!  Furthermore, a user with whom I'm tring allow to view this report keeps getting prompted for their windows username and password.  I thought that since this datasource was set to Windows Authentification that it would just pass it through? I'm pulling my hair out at this point: Screen Shots: http://www.webfound.net/datasource_connection.jpg http://www.webfound.net/datasource_connection2.jpg http://www.webfound.net/datasource_connection3.jpg Also As far as I know, I've given sufficient permissions to the right logins and right users on my SQL Databases and related stored procs that the datasets (not datasource) run An error has occurred during report processing. Cannot create a connection to data source 'datasourcename'. For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors

SQL Server SSRS 2008 R2 Authentication

We would like to expose SSRS 2008 R2 ReportServer to anonymous users and ReportManager to authenticated users via Forms Based Authentication. I tested a Security Extension in SSRS 2008 and it worked well. When I tried to deploy the same solution to SSRS 2008 R2, I am unable to browse to the reportserver and reportmanager screens. Is there a documented way to authenticate users in FBA when they want to access ReportManager and expose reports on the RepotsServer to anonymous users (or even authenticated users and pass a cookie to the reportserver). I do not want to use a windows user account if that is at all possible?   I followed the following to get it to work in SSRS 2008 : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-za/library/cc281383(en-us).aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-za/library/ms155029(en-us).aspx And I worked from the Microsoft Authentication Example project for SSRS. SSRS Forms authentication button click does nothing

I followed the instructions from http://msftrsprodsamples.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=SS2008%21Security%20Extension%20Sample&referringTitle=Home and tried to set up the sample to work on my localbox.  I have done everything and when I go to the Report Manager, I get redirected to the UILogon page and I am able to attach and debug.

However, for some reason, none of the button click events are working.  When I click on Register, it simply reloads the page without invoking the BtnRegister_Click method.  Could this be a result of having built the project using VS2008 instead of VS2005 since the sample says it doesn't work with VS2008?  If so, what can I do so that it works with VS2008?

Thanks in advance,
