ReportViewer Print Error To Non-Default Printer

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I am using the ReportViewer control on a Windows form.  After a report is rendered succesfully in the control, if I click on the Print button in the ReportViewer toolbar and print to a printer that is NOT the user's default printer, I receive the error "The handle is invalid."  It works fine anytime you print to the default printer.

I'm wondering if someone can tell me if there is a fix for this in any service packs, new releases, etc.  I am currently using SQL Server 2008 and Visual Studio 2008.

This same issue was mentioned at the bottom of the following thread, but it doesn't appear that anyone ever responded that it was ever fixed.  You would think this issue would be fixed after 4 years now.  http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vsreportcontrols/thread/42e80277-b2c6-4a70-9ba2-e7b039d6ec26/

ssrs 2008 R2 - report parameter with no default set throws java script error

We have recently upgraded from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2008 R2....I am experiencing a problem with my report parameters on my SSRS reports. It seems that my report parameters that I do not have a specified 'default' value throws a java script error when I try and run/render the report under R2.  As soon as I put a 'default' value on the report param, everything is fine.  However, that is not the behavior we need for our reports...the user needs to pick their selection. Can anyone shed some light on this, it seems to be an AJAX problem...I need to be able to have report parameters with a list of values, but no 'default' value on the parameter.

ReportViewer Error Asp.net Session expired

snp file retains format of default printer from which it was created

This seems to be the case: MS Access 2000/2003 generates a snp report via VBA (Windows 2000/XP is the general environment for the enterprise).  The report is emailed to another individual.  When the recipient tries to print the report the print options apparently force the print job into the printer's override tray as "Print to Heavy Paper"; thereby causing the printer to wait for a user to place paper into the override tray (the printer is in use by a number of users). This anomaly does not happen with snp reports sent from other users, only from the two who are using one particular printer as their default printer.  As this relates to a remote customer, I have not so far requested the [affecting] sender users try using a different printer.  Either way it causes someone to perform extra steps -- Sender: if the printer selection was to be changed each time a snp report is created; Recipient: each time they need to print the particular report they need to go into printer options and override the Heavy Paper issue by selecting letter paper (and always be alert that the particular report came from the two particular sender users -- whereas once the recipient user sends the print job, it's too late; they need to run over to the printer to insert paper into the override tray to avoid a backlog of printer jobs). The site's IS team has bee

Does the ReportViewer control print button work inside of a modal MSIE window?

I am getting the following two error messages when using the new ReportViewer v10 control after pressing the toolbar print button. I am only seeing this error inside of a modal popup window in MSIE. The print button in a normal popup window doesn't have this error. An error occurred trying to get the current window Error: Could not complete the operation due to error 8007f305. If anyone knows of a quick fix, please let me know. Thank you. VS2010, MSIE 8, SQL Server 2008.

ReportViewer Print Button not working correctly with windows 7 clients

I need some help being pointed in the right direction to fix the following issue: - After building several reports using reportviewer and testing with windows XP clients everything seemed to be fine.  I noticed that the first time the client loaded the asp.net website and clicked the print button it asked permission to install a small file (I assume this is to allow the reportviewer to access the clients printers).   - The problem I have is on Windows 7 Clients.  They can view/export the reports with no problem, but when they click the print button it ask permission to install the small file, but a error is given during the install process and the file is not installed.   If anyone has a solution or can point me in the right direction it would be helpfull.  I am using Visual Studios 2008 on Windows XP PRO and the site is hosted on Windows Server 2003 R3   Thanks

Printer Delivery Extension Error

I am trying to get the Printer Delivery Sample to work, and I have made all the changes, created the DLL, and changed the config files. It works if I am logged on to the server as the server admin, but if I try to run it from my workstation, I get this error, yet I am an admin on the SSRS system (I get the "Site Settings" link in the upper corner). SSRS is running under a domain account, and the printers are installed on the server under the same domain account. A subscription delivery error has occurred. (rsDeliveryError) One of the extension parameters is not valid for the following reason: Printer \\server\printer is not currently installed (rsInvalidExtensionParameter) Any thoughts why it works on the server, and not remotely? Thanks Rick

RsClientPrint add-on does not hold Default Printer Setting

 The default printer paper size is A4 in user PC but when the print icon is pressed in the report viewer control, the paper size is shown as Letter. Is there any way to capture the correct paper size as per the default printer?   Thanks,

Error: Access Denied on default.aspx and other pages of existing and new sites

Hi, since today we can't access the project portals of all our projects (Visual Studio TFS 2008/sharepoint admin 3.0 running on esx 4.0). I already checked every possible security settings, they're all OK. I also tried creating a new site but I can't access the site. I can however access all the settings. VS2005 ReportViewer HTTP ERROR 401 Unauthorized

Hi, can anyone help with this pls - it's getting very fustrating! there seems to be some messages and text on this issue (looks like a common problem that MS haven't published anything about yet!) but nothing I could make heads or tails off... so any help here would be very useful!

I'm using VS2005 (release, NOT beta), the new reportviewer web control and an ASP.NET page - really basic, nothing fancy. I've set the reportviewer properties to:

ReportServerURL= http://mytestserver/reportserver

ReportPath = /AdventureWorks Sample Reports/Company Sales

I'm testing the ASP.NET page is on my local machine - and the reportviewer is connecting to a remote test server (W2k3 SP1). When I view the page, then I get

HTTP ERROR 401 Unauthorized

Directory Security on the report server is Windows Authentication - W2K3 with SP1 and Reporting Services 2005 (release, NOT beta)

Directory Security on my local machine is Windows Authentication - XP SP2 and VS2005 (release, NOT beta)

Any ideas pls?

Error creating edit form for external list - Failed to find the default form for PAGETYPE PAGE_NEWFO

For the last few days we have been unable to create custom new/edit forms for External Lists in Sharepoint Designer.  When i try to create a form Sharepoint Designer show the message 'Could not save the list changes to the server'.  The corresponding message in the ULS log file is 'Failed to find the default form for PAGETYPE PAGE_NEWFORM'.  Does this mean i have somehow managed to break the form templates for External Lists?

I saw some other posts about the 'Could not save the list changes to the server' error and followed the suggested steps including removing all versions of the list and related content type, and recreatign htem but this didn't work.
