I have the unenviable task of documenting our Reporting Services area in my workplace (as I am the one who has been the most involved in developing it).
My first task is to document all the functions/views/SPs that each report uses. Since we have about 30+ reports in use, there are a ____ of a lot of functions/views/SPs being used.
I started documenting this in an access database once upon a time but in order to keep it up to date butÃÂ anybody who makes changes to datasets on a report also has to update the access databse, which as you can imagine, never quite happens.
What I am looking for is a piece of software that can look up each report, find the datasets on all the reports (in our case mostly refer to UDFs on our SQL Server) and also find the dependencies. The outcome should be a kind of documentation map that will show everything being used by a report, but can also work in ways that can list all reports that a function is a part of. i.e. if I wanted to change a function, I can find out which reports will be affected by this change.
If anybody has any idea on what I require, please let me know.
