Custom trace listener class cannot be found via configuration

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework

Hello everyone!

I have the following problem.

I created a simple trace listener class, which is derived from ConsoleTraceListener.

namespace TestUtils

  public class FormattedListener : ConsoleTraceListener

I added it in to app.config file:

      <add name="formattedListener"

       traceOutputOptions="DateTime" />

But when I run the program, it shows error at start: Couldn't find type for class TestUtils.FormattedListener.

The class is included in my executable, and I can create it manually in code.

Please tell me what should I do to register the class properly.

How to implement custom HttpContext for each request under class that implements IHTTPHandler

Hello All,

I created an application and implemented IHTTPHandler for all incoming request ending with ".aspx" extension.

Under "ProcessRequest" module, I am creating an instance of HttpContext (with URL attributes different from my application's URL i.e. if I am working on localhost then speciying Yahoo.com as its URL) and assigning it to "context" which comes as method argument.

After redirection, an error is generated. Also, the custom HTTPContext is not passed to the requested page (default.aspx, in my case.)

Code is as follows.

    Public Sub ProcessRequest(ByVal context As System.Web.HttpContext) Implements System.Web.IHttpHandler.ProcessRequest
            Dim requestedUrl As String
            Dim targetUrl As String
            Dim urlLength As Integer
            'Save settings which will be used while redirecting to appropriate page
            requestedUrl = context.Request.RawUrl
            If requestedUrl.IndexOf("?") >= 0 Then
                targetUrl = requestedUrl.Substring(0, requestedUrl.IndexOf("?"))
                targetUrl = requestedUrl
            End If
            If targetUrl = Nothing Or targetUrl.Length = 0 Then
                targetUrl = requestedUrl
            End If

Building a Custom Data Grid: Performing Ad Hoc Web Reporting with a VBScript 5.0 Class Object

A flexible, customizable grid for displaying data is a useful tool for ASP developers. It allows Web visitors to customize their view of your data. This article takes the data grid presented in "Ad Hoc Web Reporting with ADO 2.0" by John Papa and Charles Caison (MIND, December 1998) and adds handy features such as a finds feature that supports multiple finds and a mode for adding and editing records. This version also improves response time by allowing asynchronous record download and it componentizes the code so it can be used as a standalone VBScript class object that can be reused in other pages.

Membership.ValidateUser "The serviceUri configuration setting was not found."

Hello everybody!

I use Membership.ValidateUser to check user credentials, but when I do so, I get the following ArgumentException: "The serviceUri configuration setting was not found." I just can't understand what is the problem here.

Here is a part from my Web.config:

Creating a Validator class for a custom activity

I created a new Workflow Activity Library and then added a new Activity called BindForm2Activity. After that I added a new class called BindForm2Validator and then placed an attribute to the BindForm2Activity to link it to the validator class.   Here is the code for each of the classes:   BindForm2Activity.xoml.cs: Code Snippet   using System;using System.ComponentModel;using System.ComponentModel.Design;using System.Collections;using System.Drawing;using System.Linq;using System.Workflow.ComponentModel.Compiler;using System.Workflow.ComponentModel.Serialization;using System.Workflow.ComponentModel;using System.Workflow.ComponentModel.Design;using System.Workflow.Runtime;using System.Workflow.Activities;using System.Workflow.Activities.Rules; using FormsCollection;using Utils; namespace ActivityLibrary{    [ActivityValidator(typeof(BindForm2Validator))] public partial class BindForm2Activity : SequenceActivity {        public static DependencyProperty FormToBindProperty = System.Workflow.ComponentModel.DependencyProperty.Register("FormToBind", typeof(FormsCollection.Form2), typeof(BindForm2Activity));         [Description("Form to bind a datasource to it ")]        [Category("BindForm2ToDataSource")]        [Browsable(true)]        [DesignerSerializationVisibility(DesignerSerializationVisibility.Visible)]        public FormsCollection.Form2 Form

Custom markup extension or custom binding class?

Hey experts! I'm doing a project where I've encountered an issue I'd love some feedback on. I've created a custom Markup Extension called MyMarkupExtension, with two properties.  I can use it like below: <cc:DialogBorder Title="{local:MyMarkupExtension MyProperty='property value goes here', AnotherProperty='and another value here'}"> It works, and in 99% of the cases, it fits my needs perfectly.  In 1% of the cases, the values of MyProperty and AnotherProperty can not be set at design time, so I'd need some binding there. <cc:DialogBorder Title="{local:MyMarkupExtension MyProperty={Binding Path='SomePropertyOfTheViewModel'}, AnotherProperty='and another value here'}"> This presents my two questions (yes I did make only one post for 2 questions, bad karma...): 1. the binding inside my markup is not legal, after all, a binding can only be set on a DependencyProperty.  Is there any workaround which I could use for this problem at hand? In case there isnt... 2. I'm thinking about dropping the markup extension and creating a custom binding instead.  For this, I'd have to inherit from bindingbase, and so far I've read online that's one ____ of a nightmare.  Does anyone have some good code / examples on where to start? Sending Array of Custom Class over WCF Problem

I have been attempting to convert some service calls that returned a DataSet into something more lightweight. For instance, I am converting: [OperationContract] public DataSet GetCommittees(); into: [OperationContract] public List<VolunteerCommittee> GetCommittees(); where committee is defined as: [DataContract] public class VolunteerCommittee { [DataMember] public int Id { get; set; } [DataMember] public String Name { get; set; } } I copied the structure of the data contract and the operation contract right from an example in a book I bought on WCF. The author mentioned that the List<VolunteerCommittee> would get converted into an array over the wire, so the client's operation contract looks like: [OperationContract] public VolunteerCommittee[] GetCommittees(); My problem: When the service is called, an empty array is returned every time. When I put trace statements in, I see an array of 48 VolunteerCommittees leaving the server. I've done some reading on the problem and tried a number of suggestions, such as using the XmlSerializer attribute, including a certain namespace as a [return:] on the server's contract, changing the type of binding (it's using wsHttpBinding... I tried basicHttpBinding) and turning off MTOM in the behavior, but none of these changed the empty result of the call. At this point, I'm hoping someone can shine some light on

FAST non-admin configuration - middleware.cfg not found?!

I'm stuck with an interesting error as i try to configure a non-admin FAST search node.  Admin configuration was successful, with deployment.xml referencing the 2ndary server, as noted in the install_info.txt I'm repeatedly receiving this same error in the non-admin configuration error log: C:\FASTSearch\bin\MonitoringServiceConfig.exe" Output - Error: The file 'C:\FASTSearch\etc\middleware.cfg' was not found. This file is in the Admin FASTSearch\etc folder, but not on the this new server i'm attempting to add to the farm.  Best i can tell there is some sort of communication issue between the two servers, but i havent been able to discover what it is?! Running the install by the install script throws a communication error related to possible ipsec issues.

Unable to Customize Custom Lists. Sharepoint Error: User cannot be found.

I am not sure what the best way to put/describe my issue . I am unable to customize my custom list. Steps: 1. Login to sharepoint site. 2. Site Actions -> Site Settings 3. Under Site Administration -> Site Libraries and lists 4. Clicked on a custom list.   Error: Error User cannot be found.   Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation. Correlation ID: 4063bf58-9cb7-4204-8cc4-cc2889abffe3 Date and Time: 9/9/2010 5:51:58 PM   I figured this may be an issue with site permissions, so I have went into site permissions and removed and re-added Administrator into Homeowners group.   Thank you in advance.   Howie

Custom Web Part deployment with class library reference

Hi All, We have class library as a project in our solution as well as a web part project. Our web part simply references and executes a service utility class in the class library and outputs it into a label. The deployment is successful but when attempting to add the web part to the page, it comes out with a error page saying "File Not Found" with a correlation ID and date/time reference. Once we take out the code that executes the utility class, it deploys fine and we're able to add it to the page without any issues. It seems evident that any reference to our class library causes this "File Not Found" issue... but we're not sure how to implement this solution. Any ideas? Do we add the class library dll directly into the GAC?  If so, how? Is there another reference we have to implement in the AssemblyInfo.cs?  If so, what does that look like? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Eric

unable to trace value after postback within Custom Server Control

public class TextBox : AStateManagement, IControl { #region "Variables" #region "Local Variables" protected System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebControl _TextBox = null; protected string _CssClass = string.Empty; protected string _Text = string.Empty; protected bool _Visible = true; protected bool _Enabled = true; protected string _ID = string.Empty; protected bool _IsViewStateLoaded = false; #endregion "Local Variables" #region "Global Variables" #endregion "Global Variables" #endregion "Variable" #region "Constructor" public TextBox() { _TextBox = new System.Web.UI.WebControls.TextBox(); _TextBox.ID = this.UniqueID; } #endregion "Constructor" #region "Events" #endregion "Events" #region "Disposable" #endregion "Disposable" #region "Properties" public override string CssClass { get { return _CssClass; } set { _TextBox.CssClass = _CssClass = value; } } public virtual string Text { get { return _Text; }

How would you handle this? Multiple instance of a custom class...

Forgive me if this isn't the appropriate place.

SSRS 2008 configuration Manager - "Invalid Class"

Reporting Services Configuration Manager is throwing an error when I try to "Find" the server. The manager starts up and takes me to the "Reporting Services Configuration Connection" window. I click on the "Find" button (leaving the default comptuer name as-is; the local machine)  and get the error message "Invalid Class" with the title "Reporting Services Configuration Manager".

I've been searching around the interner and only found one forum post with a similar problem to my own. It was on this forum and the advice seemed to be pointing towards a problem with WMI, but it seemed that the user never found a solution. I've downloaded and ran the WMI diagnostics program and the log does contain quite a few warnings, but I don't know how to go about solving most of them. I did run regsvr32 on some dll files though :)

I won't post any logs yet, as I have no idea where the problem may be based. Please advise and I will post the required information.

Custom "no data found" error on extended cqwp

Hi all,

I'm extending the content by query webpart to handle dynamic query string variables. Yes, I know, it's built in, but I need more than 3 and even just using 3 through the GUI consistently throws errors. And, since I only need them one at a time, it seemed more logical to extend it.

Anyway, I'd like to return an error when whatever is filtered for doesn't return results - or when someone messes with the URL variables and causes an error. But, I don't know how to go about doing that, and googling is only finding information on other kinds of errors people have using the cqwp.

Anyone able to point me in the right direction?

Problem with adding custom propety to a data class using Linq.

I tried to add a custom property to the data model:

public partial class Department
        public string ExtensionIdName
                return Extension.ExtensionName;

It seems that it works, but when I bind the data to a ListView it shows all the properties except the property I added manualy (ExtensionIdName).

Am I missing something or is there something wrong?

Web Service to inherit from a Custom Base Class that inherits System.Web.Services.WebMethod instead

Hi All,

Recently, I tried to get my Web Service class to inherit from a custom base class that inherits from System.Web.Services.WebMethod instead of the System.Web.Services.WebMethod directly.

However, I've been getting Error 500.

Public Class Service1
    Inherits BaseClass
    <System.Web.Services.WebMethod()> _
    Public Function GetSessionID() As String
        GetSessionID = Me.Session.SessionID
    End Function
End Class

public class BaseClass
    Inherits System.Web.Services.WebService

    public property Property1 as string
    public property Property2 as string

End Class

Please kindly assist.

Thank you in advance.

Warmest Regards,
