ManualWorkflowSchedulerService.RunWorkflow(instanceID) returns false?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WPF

Hi, all

Currently I'm implementing a statemachine workflow in asp.net, most of time it works very well. But if I recompile the whole application and try to reactive persisted workflow instance from a middle state, ManualWorkflowSchedulerService.RunWorkflow(instanceID) just returns false, nothing happens, no exception, state would not changed. I have to raise the external event again, and then it will work correctly. I've already subcribed all the available events for the workflow runtime instance and tried to log something, but I found if ManualWorkflowSchedulerService.RunWorkflow(instanceID) returns false, only the Load event was triggered, I just cannot find any exception. So what I am wondering is that how can I dig deep to get more useful information to locate the potential error? Any suggestions or comments are highly appreciated.

FileUpload.HasFile returns False

Hi everyone...I'm facing the following problem. I have an update panel where i have a multiview. One of the view is used to upload a file. I have a cmdUpload button. FileUpload.HasFile always returns false. I've read a few threads here about this issue and it is said that I have to add cmdUpload as a PostBack Trigger because Ajax does not allow Async uploads. I got an error by doing so that says that cmdUpload could not be registered neither as a PostBackTrigger nor as a AsyncPostbackTrigger due to  confilcts. What is really strange is that I remove from design code my updatePanel just to test it, and i'm still getting HasFile=false...I used this control before and never had a problem without an updatePanel.Any suggestion?Thanks!

Directory.Exists() returns always false on Windows 7 when it's a UNC path, but not with a backslash

Hi everybody,

Is there a known bug on Windows 7 ? See what happend on this part of code :

Directory.Exists(@"\\ServerName\ServerShare") ; // returns false
Directory.Exists(@"\\ServerName\ServerShare\") ; // returns true

I am running the code on a Windows 7 machine x86. The same code on a Windows 7 machine x64 works fine.

Any idea ? :-)

Best regards.

String.Equals() returns FALSE in case of two same string

Hi People,

I have the following piece of code

SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() returns -1 when doing Insert / Update / Delete

Sometimes you end up with a return value of -1 when using the SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery method.

Why is that?

Well, the ExecuteNonQuery method is there for statements for changing data, ie. DELETE / UPDATE /INSERT, and the returned value are the number of rows affected by that statement.

When checking the documentation we can see that there are some conditions that return -1.

For UPDATE, INSERT, and DELETE statements, the return value is the number of rows affected by the command.

When a trigger exists on a table being inserted or updated, the return value includes the number of rows affected by both the insert or update operation and the number of

rows affected by the trigger or triggers. For all other types of statements, the return value is -1. If a rollback occurs, the return value is also -1.

AutoGenerateSelectButton="False" ignored when using Domain Service

Crosspost from RIA Services forum: http://forums.silverlight.net/forums/t/196466.aspx

I'm creating a Dynamic Data application in VS2010 and have recently switched to using a Domain Service to give greater control over the data presented to the client. I've noticed that the AutoGenerate<Action>Button attributes on my GridView are being ignored. The presence of the Edit and Delete buttons appear to be contingent on the existence of Update and Delete methods on the partial classes autogenerated in the Domain Service, but i'm not seeing how to control the generation of the Select button. Is there a way to control this from within the Domain Service class?

vs2010 web deployment project restarts w3svc even when restartwwwservice = false

We've updated some of our projects from VS2008 to VS2010.  When these projects are deployed the w3svc is restarted on the target machine, even when restartwwwservice = false in the vdproj file.

This was a problem in 2008 until SP1 (http://forums.asp.net/p/1300097/2534736.aspx).  Does this same problem exist in VS2010?

This is a major problem for us -  we need to be able to deploy projects without restarting IIS.

I've tried creating a new web deployment package and setting the restartWWWService field to false, but this still does a restart when it's installed.

Has anyone come across this problem in VS2010?

KeepTogether=false on table not working within rectangle

I have an rdlc report that has a table contained within a rectangle. Since I have multiple data sections within the BODY of the report, I am using rectangles to keep them separated.

Anyway, the problem is that <KeepTogether> set to false on the table is not working when the table is contained within the rectangle, causing unwanted page breaks and acting as though KeepToghther is always true. The rectangle does not have <KeepTogether>.  When the table is outside the rectangle everything works fine.

Any ideas?

sqldatasource's filter returns too few records

I have a puzzling issue.  This is in asp.net 2.0, using vb.  I have a gridview that is bound to a sqldatasource.  Here is the datasource code:

<asp:SqlDataSource ID="fellowsSqlDataSource" runat="server"
        ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:PFPFellowsConnectionString %>"
        ProviderName="<%$ ConnectionStrings:PFPFellowsConnectionString.ProviderName %>"
        FilterExpression="{0}"  >
            <asp:SessionParameter Name="psuaccessid" SessionField="username" />

Linq to SQL returns null for DateTime fields.

I have a linq to sql entity class in which I declared some DateTime fileds like this:

[Column(DbType = "smalldatetime")]
public DateTime? StartDate { get; set; }

And this is how I fetch data form repository:

return repository.Logs.OrderByDescending(l => l.LogID).FirstOrDefault();

All non DateTime fields are filled properly but all datetimes are null.

[Column(DbType = "smalldatetime")]

        public DateTime? StartDate { get; set; }

Adding carriage returns between 2 dynamically created controls in an HtmlTableCell

The title pretty much explains it. Here is what i'm trying to do...

 Private Sub LoadGrid_CommentsField(ByVal Row As HtmlTableRow, ByVal BookingNumber As String, ByVal CommentsText As String)
  Dim Txt As TextBox
  Dim Cmd As ClickOnceButton.ClickOnceButton

  Txt = New TextBox
  Txt.ID = "txtComment_" & BookingNumber
  Txt.CssClass = "TFAppControls"
  Txt.TextMode = TextBoxMode.MultiLine
  Txt.MaxLength = 500
  Txt.Width = New Unit(95, UnitType.Percentage)
  Txt.Text = CommentsText

  Row.Cells(cComments).InnerHtml &= "<br/>"

  Cmd = New ClickOnceButton.ClickOnceButton
  Cmd.DisableAfterClick = True
  Cmd.Text = "Save Comments"
  Cmd.ID = "cmdSaveComments_" & BookingNumber
  Cmd.CssClass = "TFAppButtons"
  Cmd.EnableViewState = False
 End Sub

On the line where i try and update the InnerHtml, i get the following error; "Cannot get inner content of  because the contents are not literal."

Picker returns nothing for BDC column in custom list

Playing with the BDC for the first time, running into some issues adding a Business Data column to a custom list.

I believe my ADF file is solid. I've been able to import that just fine and can use the application to drive various BDC-specific webparts (a Business Data List or Business Data Item, for example). It also seems to work when I manually enter information in my NewForm.aspx field and click the Check Names button (it verifies my entry and underlines it, creates link to profile when I view the list data).

If I try to use the picker, I get nothing. Enter a name I know is valid or a % and click the magnifying glass icon and I very briefly get the "Please Wait" message, then just an empty set with "Type into the search box above then press "Enter" to start your search" where my results should be.

Any pointers? Thanks.

VS2005 calling VS2010 asmx service returns empty string

Anyone have any experience with this?

We are using VS 2005 for the front end, and vs 2010 for the web services part (asmx), not wcf yet.

Web service works just like the vs2005 when run locally, no problems.

Connecting to it from a test app returns an empty string. Connecting to a 2005 app doesn't!

Anyone run into this before or have a suggestion? Surely vs 2005 can connect to web services from a later version?

process.start with UseShellExecute = False

Hi Please help here im stuck with this issue where i am trying the fire the cmd.exe to perform a task but the cmd.exe file needs to be started with with admin rights and i wnt the file to be hidden and even if i set the process properties ProcessWindowStyle.Hidden. How can i run the process with admin right and also hide the window because the minute i set UseShellExecute = True and comment out the user name and password than it hides the window. From what i can gather is that once you set UseShellExecute = false the code does not hide the window. See my code example below and it would really help if some could show me how to start the processs with admin right and keep the window hidden. Dim myProcess As New Process ' Declare new instance of the process class myProcess.StartInfo.FileName = "cmd.exe" ' myProcess.StartInfo.Arguments = "My Arguments here" myProcess.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = False myProcess.StartInfo.Verb = "runas" myProcess.StartInfo.UserName = Username myProcess.StartInfo.Password = password myProcess.StartInfo.WindowStyle = ProcessWindowStyle.Hidden myProcess.Start() ' Start the process myProcess.WaitForExit() ' Wait for it to exit.
