Content Query web part - how to open documents on first click instead of first opening the document

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi all, Hopefully this is a easy settings change question, when I create a content query web part and have it look at documents in a document library (Either document library or document centre) when I click on the name of the document (link to doc) in the content query it opens up a page that list the document properties, I then have to click on the "Name" of the document link to open the document but when i close the document I end up at the library that the document is in and not on the page that I clicked on  the link in content query web part. So in some cases a user is on a site and clisks on a link(in a content query web part) that eventaully opens a document in the document centre and when they close the doucment there end up in the document centre.

Any ideas why this behaviour is suddendly happening, it didn't happen when I first added the content wuery web parts, thanks in advance.

Office 2007 Documents Open in Read-Only when Opening them from a WSS 2.0 Document Library

Hi, When any of our Windows 7 Pro computers that run Office 2007 Pro attempt to open a Word document that resides in a WSS 2.0 document library by using the drop down menu and selecting "Edit with MS Word", the documents open in read-only.  Our work-around is to save the document locally, modify it, and then save it back to the document library. We have some Windows XP and Vista systems that run Office 2007 and they are fine and can simply edit the document and save it.  We also have a handful of pc's that run Office 2003 and they are not having any issues either. Things I've tried: Office 2007 Repair - no luck Office Reinstall - no luck Some registry mod HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12\Internet\OpenDocumentReadWrite=1 (noted on a MSKB article) - no luck and after re-reading the article it clearly states that this will not address content hosted on WSS or SPS sites Clearing IE temp files, resttting IE to defaults - no luck Once again, this only seems to happen to Win7Pro pc's that run Office 2007.  Honestly, I can't tell if IE8 has anything to do with this. Any thoughts or help would be extrememly appreciated. Thanks, Mike

Content Query Web Part - Filter Contents of Document Library

I would like to display selective content of document library using content query web part. My document library has multiple folders. I would like to have the content query web part display the contents of one particular folder. And also another content query should display the contents based on a column in the document library. I don't see these options when customizing the query for the content query web part. If this is not possible by default, what is the potentail alternative solution ?

Content Query Web Part missing in SharePoint 2010

If you don't see content query web part listed in the web parts list, this is because you have not enabled "Search Server Web Parts" feature in site collection features. Enable this feature and content query web part will show in the list of web parts.

SharePoint and Open XML: Generating Documents from SharePoint Using Open XML Content Controls

This article describes how to generate documents that contain data stored in SharePoint lists. The example demonstrates how OpenXML content controls can be defined to capture list data in a Word document and how LINQ to XML can be used to query the lists. The documents are generated from a SharePoint Web Part.

Check-out issue when opening a document from a document library when a read-only copy is open

We have an issue when a user has a read-only copy of a document from SharePoint open and then tries to check-out and edit another copy of the document (i.e. from the document library) the checked out copy is not connected to the web server. For the user it will look the same they will make edits, save and then close, but when they do so the document is not updated in SharePoint - it may be saved locally in their SP drafts, but the user will think that they have lost their version. We then get the checked out to another user error and you have to discard changes to get the document working again. Steps to reproduce this issue: * click on the name of a office doc on a Document Library * Make sure "Read Only" is selected and click "ok" * Minimize open document * click on the same file on the Document Library * Make sure "check out and edit" is selected and the "Use my local drafts folder" checkbox is ticked. Select OK. * Edit document and press save. Changes are never saved back in SharePoint, they are only on the local draft. We are using MOSS with SP2. Clients are on Office 2003 and 2007 Is this normal behaviour? Is there anything that can be done to prevent this from happening?

WSS2.0 opening pdf documents an error message appears: The document could not be saved. The file may

Hi All,. In a WSS2.0 document library, a user is trying to open pdf files. However, an error message is displayed: 'The document could not be saved. The file may be read only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder'. No one else has the file open. When the user saves the file using Save As (as it is apparently Read Only) and then saves the file back to the SharePoint site, all previous versions of the file disappear. The user has noted that this has been happening since today, and she had some other network issues that have been resolved. No other users are experiencing this problem.  Not sure if this problem is related to the network problems the user was facing. I've had the user reboot but this has not resolved it. Any ideas?

Why is the Content by Query Web Part CommonViewFields attribute not working as expected?

I am using the Content by Query Web Part to show data from a Custom List.  I have already added to the XSL "ItemStyle" sheet so that I can pick the correct Item Style.  That has worked fine - I have been able to show whatever fields I would like and apply any CSS Styles I would like to them.  The issue I am having is in formatting the field correctly.  I have two different fields in my current example that need to be formatted: [1] I want to show an Image, but right now it shows the URL  [2] I want to show Rich Text, but right now it shows all the HTML Code as Plain Text.  I have looked at many articles online, and they all tell me to change the following in the WEBPART file from: <property name="CommonViewFields" type="string" /> to: <property name="CommonViewFields" type="string">Thumbnail, Image;Teaser, RichHTML;</property> What I am doing wrong?  The Web Part still runs, but it does not format the fields any differently.  Thanks for the help!

Why do we need Common view fields in content query web part?

I am a bit confused on the purpose of "CommonViewFields" in CQWP. Almost all the write-ups on the web says that if we need a custom column to be available in the web part's XSL, we need to export the webpart file, add the columns to "CommonViewFields", import the web part to the site. However I noticed that, when I create a custom style template in my "ItemStyle.xsl" and simply add a line like <xsl:value-of select="@MyCustomColmn"/>, then "MyCustomColumn" appears automatically under "Fields to display" in the tool pane as a text box prompt, when I edit the web part and select my style template. I can then simply fill-in my column display name under "MyCustomColumn" and the web part works perfectly fine. (There is NO NEED to export the web part, edit the ".webpart" file and add "commonviewfields" etc..etc..etc) If this works, then what is the real need for "commonviewfields" ? Can someone shed light on this? I am totally confused.. (SharePoint 2010)

Content Query Web Part, QueryOverride and sorting by site

Hello, I want to display documents from various sub-sites in my portal. These documents must be grouped by site and only documents created in the last 7 days should appear in the CQWP. The first difficulty I encountered was that I cannot apply a filter like " date created< today - 7" in the tool pane of CQWP. So I searched the web and found that I can create a custom query by exporting the web part and changing the QueryOverride property. Thing is that you cannot specify a CAML group clause in the QueryOverride property. It is just not supported. It seems though (thanks to this post: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/sharepointdevelopment/thread/92e335ad-48f6-4572-a314-752c8b41ef8f) that if you specify a "order by" clause for the field you want to group by, then you can use this field in the group by section of the CQWP tool pane. Thus, I need to sort my results by site (because I want to group by site afterwards). But how do I do that? After another long research, I found out (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff380147%28office.12%29.aspx#odcsp2007CustomizeCWQP_CustomizingUsingtUIwebpartFile) that I have to specify the ViewFieldsOverride property in order to include the original site that my document comes from. And in the property I have to include the following property: <ProjectProperty Name="Title"/>. But still I ca

SharePoint Programming: Replace content in documents of Document Library

HI, I have 100+ word documents in one of the document libraries on our SharePoint portal. Most of these documents contain HYPERLINKS which refer to a totally different SharePoint server. My task is to update all these HYPERLINKS to point to our server instead of external server. Any pointers on how to accomplish this would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance Mahesh B

Content Query Web Part Error

Hi,I get the following error when i try to add a ContentByQuery.webpart using SharePoint Server 2007:   "Unable to display this Web Part. To troubleshoot the problem, open this Web page in a Windows SharePoint Services-compatible HTML editor such as Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer. If the problem persists, contact your Web server administrator."   I've seen a lot of people having this problem when they aren't on an admin account, but I am, and this error happens before I can do any configuration at all to the webpart.   The webpart didn't show up in the webpart list at first, so I added it from the webparts gallery. The actual name of the part is Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.WebControls.ContentByQueryWebPart.Is this the wrong kind of webpart or what seems to be the problem? I don't have much experience in Sharepoint since before, as you might can tell.Help would be VERY appreciated, thanks in advance.

Open Office Documents from Document Library without Password Prompt

We have a SharePoint site and Document library set up for anonymous access.   All non-Microsoft file types open correctly without a password.   When users click on Microsoft Office documents they are prompted for passwords.   Is there some way to configure the Office documents or Document Library so that users are not prompted for passwords when they open documents or is this a bug?
