I am receiving this error when trying to check in a document:

I have checked for columns that are hidden or required, but there are none. Any ideas why this is happening??

"Read Only" Access Error when checking in documents from outlook

We are accessing our sharepoint services 3.0 document library through outlook 2007.

We can open the files in word/excel etc, but when we go to check-in the document the application tells us that we only have read access to the document, and cant check the document back in to the server.

It works fine via the browser, the read only problem is only when checking out through outlook.

I have given all users full access and design access to the doc library.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Errors checking documents out

Dear all

I've recently had SharePoint set up and I've created my first shared document list. I changed the settings to switch on checking out and I'm now getting errors. The error occurs when I click OK on the 'you are about to open...' dialogue with 'edit' selected. The error comes up in a new box and it states 'object reference not set to an instance of an object'. When I click OK it gives a message stating I may not have permissions or that the file is currently checked out by someone else. I have permissions to the whole site so I don't think that is the problem, and I know for sure that the files are not checked out (i tested this by uploading a new file and trying to check it out).

Many thanks in advance for comments and suggestions.

WSS2.0 opening pdf documents an error message appears: The document could not be saved. The file may

Hi All,. In a WSS2.0 document library, a user is trying to open pdf files. However, an error message is displayed: 'The document could not be saved. The file may be read only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder'. No one else has the file open. When the user saves the file using Save As (as it is apparently Read Only) and then saves the file back to the SharePoint site, all previous versions of the file disappear. The user has noted that this has been happening since today, and she had some other network issues that have been resolved. No other users are experiencing this problem.  Not sure if this problem is related to the network problems the user was facing. I've had the user reboot but this has not resolved it. Any ideas?

Import Error: Could not process the file Documents/Application Deployment.mht as a Single File Web P

Hi there everyone, Version: Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 with Cumulative Update June 29, 2010 applied. I am having issues importing an exported site into a different domain. I've overcome most of the issues and actually got most of the site to import, however, the import process get's stuck on import a Single File Web Page document from a document library. I believe the original cause of this error is http://support.microsoft.com/kb/980079 The issue I face now is, I already have a large number of .mht files in my document library which I do need to import into the test environment (or that I might need to restore in a DR scenario). Does anyone have any information on either: forcing the import commmand to "on error resume next" (ie. not stop processing when it encounters an error) fixing the already corrupt .mht files in the database easily The error text from the import command is: Error: Could not process the file Documents/Application Deployment.mht as a Single File Web Page document. at Microsoft.SharePoint.Library.SPRequest.CreateOrUpdateFileAndItem(String bstrUrl, String bstrWebRelativeUrl, Guid& docId, Object varDoc, Int32 docLength, Int32 exists, String bstrCreatedBy, String bstrModifiedBy, Int32 iCreatedByID, Int32 iModifiedByID, Int32 iVersion, Object varTimeCreated, Object varTimeLastModified, Object varProperties, String checkInComment, Int3

Sharepoint 2007 Upload Multiple Documents error on Windows Vista

Hi all, I am having an issue uploading multiple documents from a share using the "Upload Multiple Documents" on the toolbar in a document library. The user experiencing this problem has a Windows Vista machine that recently replaced XP. They have mapped shares that they use. The shares work fine in windows explorer, but when you click the + next to the share through the "Upload Multiple Documents" function on sharepoint, the machine thinks for a while, then removes the + and shows no documents. Anyone know why this is happening?

Error while downloading and uploading Documents from document library

We have a set of documents in a document library, which we are trying to download. if i click on the document and try to download, it takes a lot of time and then reports a error message.

Exception from HRESULT: 0x80041050

Now when we also try to upload documents, it does not allow us to upload the documents and reports a exception.

We tried to research through through the error, it gaves us while downloading the document, it is somewhat related to the Antivirus issues and looks like a document that is infected. This is only related to some documents and not all documents.

Let us know if there is any where to work around this issue and allow users to upload and download documents or how to tackle the antivirus issue.

It looks like the SharePoint antivirus has flagged off some of the so-called infected documents with some non-zero values, the resolution to this as suggested by microsoft is to re-run the anti-virus, so that the document value can be set to zero again and have the file downloaded.

Your help will be highly appreciated in this regards.

Error when trying to open recently saved documents with Office

Having a strange issue with one of our customers. They are using a drive letter mapping to a SP Document library (WSS 3.0). For some reason out of the blue now, if they create a new word document, save it up to WSS (via drive mapping) and then try and open it again, it gives a "Could not open" error. Trying to open the file via the web interface gives a "No connectivity with the server. The file http://... can't be opened because the server couldn't be contacted". Strange issue is, we can open the files just fine with Wordpad. So something between Office & Sharepoint appears to be causing the issue. Stranger even still, if we save using word to save an office document to SharePoint via the web interface instead of the drive mapping, it appears to fix the issue. From there on we can save and open files directly to\from the drive letter mapping!

So the issue can be temporarily resolved that way, but it still re-occurs every once in a while, and It would be nice to know what is causing the issue and how/if we can permanently prevent it.

Visual C++ Runtime Library error when opening documents in Powerpoint 2010 from Sharepoint link

I posted this question on the Office Powerpoint forum and did not get much response so thought I would try here.   Here is the link to that post  http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/pptshare/thread/36a58d07-b1ad-4935-a14e-086dae8cb786

I'm running Windows 7 with Office 2010.  We have a Sharepoint 2007 server.  Whenever I click a link from our Intranet site I get the error "this application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.  Please contact the applications's support team for more information."  It asks if I want to open in safe mode and I say yes and it never opens.

During testing I also find that if I have a blank powerpoint .ppt file that I try to save to the same document library on the same site it works fine, but if I try to save a blank .pptx file to the site I get the same runtime error.

This does not happen on all powerpoint or office documents being opened from the Intranet.  If I boot to safe mode it works fine.    If I copy the files local they work fine.  Any ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks so much!!!

Error Opening Office Documents with Office 2003

Hi all,

Sharepoint 2007. When I try to open documents (clicking on it) in a sharepoint document Library with office 2003, i receive an error that say that the file is not valid and to check the path.

If i try to open document with the scroll down menu and the "edit command", the document open normaly.

Even if i try to open the same document with office 2007 it works normally.

It seem something due to the read only opening of the file...

Can you help me?

Many thanks

how to solve "Cannot complete this action." error on Require documents to be checked out with https

In our SharePoint environment, when the user try to change "Require documents to be checked out before they can be edited?" to Yes in "Document Library Versioning Settings" screen in Default mode, it works fine. But if the user do the same action in "Internet" mode which we configured as "https", it throws the error like "Cannot complete this action. Please try again."

Could anyone please let me know about how to resolve this issue?

Error Checking Nested Stored Procedures

Does anyone have an idea of the best way to handle error checking with nested store procedures?  Here is the background.  I have a file being uploaded by the user via the web.  The file is converted to a DataTable then imported using SqlBulkCopy.  Once the data is in the database I have 3 separate stored procedure calls.  The first prepares the import data by making some minor correction and running logic to insure integrity.  The second call inserts the final data into a production table which keeps a history of all data.  Once in the final table a series of calculations and logic need to be run on the data.  The first two stored procedures are called individually from the front-end and end properly when a RAISERROR is triggered from the stored procedure.  However the third stored procedure calls 3 other stored procedures.  From what I gather online it appears that RAISERROR messages will be sent back as exceptions to the front-end if called but will not be sent back to calling stored procedures.  If this is true I would have to do even more error checking in the parent stored procedure.  Does anyone know a way to avoid this extra checking for a return type from each of the stored procedure calls in the parent?  Thanks

Web Service for uploading documents into SharePoint

WS UploadService is a web service written for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 and is meant for uploading documents into SharePoint. I have just uploaded the zip file to GotDotNet.com so it will take some time before the zip file appears in the list of downloads. For the time being, you can download the zip file from the following location

IsapiModule Error 500 Issue

I am about exhausted trying to figure out this error:

HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error

Description: The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred.

Error Code: 0x8007007b

Notification: ExecuteRequestHandler

Module: IsapiModule

Requested URL: http://localhost:80/ReportServer

Physical Path: c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\Reporting Services\ReportServer

When I enable Failed Request Tracing Rules and view the log output I am supposing that the actual problem is in the 2nd call where there are 2 backslashes before the actual filename in the specified path:

CALL_ISAPI_EXTENSION DllName="C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\\aspnet_isapi.dll"

Inserting personal error message in ValidationSummary

I am creating a web form that requires a lot of validation. I use many of the validation control in asp.net already like RequiredFieldValidator and CompareValidator.

My Problem: after my custom validation for the value entered return an error message, and I pressed enter key when the field is empty, my custom error message is overlapped by my ValidationSummary.

Setting my custom error to visible = false on button click also does not seem to work as it requires for me to enter the value first.

This made me think, is there a way to insert my custom validation inside the ValidationSummary as an error message like for other validation control?

Thanks in advance
