Issue with Updating an Item using WebServices

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi,

We have a method which adds an item to the DocLib using the CopyIntoItems method of Copy Webservice. Now I heard that this copyIntoItems has a limitation of updating lookup field values. So, What we now do is, we add an item, update all the columns such as single line text, choice and then we use the Lists web service’s updateListitem method to update the lookup fields.

We are facing an issue in updating this lookup columns. The web service is returning an error code 0x81020014 which gives the following error message.

One or more field types are not installed properly.
Go to the list settings page to delete these fields.

The batch command I am using to do this is :

"<Batch OnError='Continue' ListVersion='0' PreCalc='TRUE'><Method ID='1' Cmd='Update'><Field Name='ID'>" + Itemid + "</Field>" + "<Field Name='FileRef'>" &#

Personal view reverts back to default after updating properties of item

I am working with a company that has 1 site collection with several sub sites.  I have built 3 document libraries with workflow in 3 different sub sites and all behave as expected.  I have one site where ALL libraries do something perplexing;

If you are in a custom personal view and you go into the properties of a document and then exit (update or not, does not matter) it reverts back to the default view of that library.

Has anyone seen this?  is there an option when creating an album that could cause this?

thanks in advance for any input on this odd issue.

Updating a List item field value in a SPD Workflow is setting Date fields to null

Hello everybody,I faced a very weird behavior while creating a workflow in SPD against a Document Library.Here is the case:1- Create a document library in sharepoint site.2- Add a custom column of type DATE.3- Upload any document to the library4- Edit the item metadata and set the custom date field to any date you want.5- Now using sharepoint designer, create a very simple Workflow with only one action that updates the current item "Title" field to any value. (Note: In my case I set the workflow to start manually and not automatically)6- Save the workflow and then start it on the uploaded item.7- Now check the value of the date column after the workflow is finished.8- You will see that the Date field is Empty... (very weird)Notes:   1-This behavior will not appear on a standard list. it is only appearing in a Document library.  2- I am using WSS 3.0 SP2 + MOSS 2007 SP2. Also SharePoint designer 2007 SP2Did anyone face this situation and does it have a fix, or am I doing something wrong here... Please help.Regards,Maheed

Issue with Combobox - On selecting Item the combobox border becomes red why?

Hi, I have a combobox. <ComboBox DisplayMemberPath="Name" Name="CB" IsEnabled="{Binding ElementName=RB, Path=IsChecked}"<br/> SelectedValue="{Binding Path=Folders, Mode=TwoWay, UpdateSourceTrigger= PropertyChanged}" /> It has Selected value binding with ObservableCollection as public ObservableCollection<T> _folders; public ObservableCollection<T> Folders { get { return _folders; } set{ _folders = value; }} Combobox's IsEnabled property has binding with a Radio button checked value. PS: I don't have any validation here. The problem I am facing is when I select an Itam from Combobox its border becomes red , I don't understand why this is happening.

Updating a list item based on the value of a different list item

Ok, I've searched everywhere and have gotten mixed information about whether this is possible with standard Sharepoint functions.  I new at Sharepoint, but I'm doing this to help out the department which is short of help right now.  Here's what I'm intending to do - We need a small ticketing system to track software requests.  I created a basic list that accomplishes this fine.  I created another list with criteria that software must meet in order to be approved called software evaluations.  I made a "choice" column called approval status in both lists that have the following options: Approved, Pending, Rejected.  I'd like the softwarerequests.approvalstatus to mirror whatever the softwareevaluations.approvalstatus column value is.  I created a workflow using SPD and it's seemingly easy to use.  I attached it to the softwarevaluations list and set the following as the matching criteria: if softwareevaluations.approvalstatus = "approved" then softwarerequests.approvalstatus = "approved". It mentions that the values aren't unique, but I accept anyway.  It doesn't do anything and I'm thinking it might be because it doesn't know what "issue" to reference.    I feel I'm all over the place right now, so it might be easier if someone just asks me what you need to know to help.

Updating an item in one list based on data from another

I thought I understood this fairly well, but it seems that I am missing something.  I have created a change management site that uses a calendar list to mark upcoming changes to our IT systems.  I have also created a second list to track some information about the change items that I don't want to show up on the calendar, such as what the outcome of the change was or if the change process was properly followed.  So I have the calendar list and another list called results.  I know that there needs to be a unique identifier that each list item will have in common, so in the results list I created a column called Change Number.  When a new change item is created in the Change Management calendar a workflow runs that notifies some people that a new change has been submitted, and the last step in that workflow creates a new list item in the results list and sets the Change Number field to be equal to the current item ID field.  That part is working right now.  When I create a new change item I can open the results list and see that there is a new item and it has the proper number in the Change Number field. What isn't working is when I try to take actions in other workflows that use data from both lists.  An example is notifying the creator of the change that it has been approved.  When the list item is changed a workflow starts that

Updating list item values in SharePoint Designer using code

Is it possible to programmatically modify the SharePoint objects using SharePoint Designer Object Model. By that I mean coding in SharePoint Designer (not Visual Studio). For example, can we access the list items of a list programmatically and change their values? I can do all this in Visual Studio using SharePoint Object Model but I don’t find a way of achieving this by using programming in SharePoint Designer. I searched through http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb208639(office.12).aspx but no success. If the answer is yes. Can someone please give example(s) or point to some articles etc? Thanks in advance.

Issue with designer files not updating -- and therefore cannot code

Hello,

I have a problem in which some nested controls on a page are not updated in the designer file. I have deleted the designer file, selected Convert to Web Application, but still the controls are missing.

I know there is a supposed fix at http://blogs.msdn.com/b/webdevtools/archive/2010/03/05/hotfix-for-issue-with-auto-generated-designer-files-not-adding-controls.aspx

Unfortunately the patch won't install and I still have the issue.

Any thoughts? I am running VS 2010 Version 10.0.30319.1 RTMRel.

thanks,

ExcelWebRenderer Visible item issue

Hi,

I have a user control that I use to add in one of my sharepoint pages. In that user control I dynamically add a ExcelWebRenderer part as

            ewaWebPart.Visible = true;
            ewaWebPart.ToolbarStyle = ToolbarVisibilityStyle.None;
            ewaWebPart.ChromeType = System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts.PartChromeType.None;

           ewaWebPart1.WorkbookUri = WorkbookUri;

            ewaWebPart.VisibleItem = Constants.TABULAR_NAMED_ITEM; // setting the range name for visible item
            this.tdContent.Controls.Add(ewaWebPart);  // Adding to table cell

what this code is expected to do is to render the ewaWebPart only showing its visble item ie the mentioned range in the Visible item property but what is happening that some time it shows full workbook and does not show only the visible item (range selected), but after refreshing the page it works fine ie only range item is shown.

Please check what I am doing wrong.

SP Workflow issue -> "The item is currently locked for editing. Waiting for item to be checked in o

Hello,

I'm getting the above issue with my List Workflow.  I've created a workflow that assigns column data to a file when it is created.  This works some of the time; however, at random intervals the workflow will get stuck with "In Progress" status for the reason listed above.  The only way to clear this status is to delete the workflow and republish it.  This happens when copying a document via the UI, as well as when copying a document via UNC path.

If I terminate the workflow for the stuck item, when I go back to run it manually, the workflow isn't even listed.  Looking at the Visio history for the item, it seems to be getting stuck at different methods within the workflow; sometimes it gets stuck at a logic method, other times at a data manipulation method.  And other times it runs through fine without any issues.  This is all happening with the same file used as a control, so it's not like I'm introducing variable triggers to the methods in this workflow.

Ideas?

ExcelWebRenderer Visible item issue

Issue with Announcement content type and adding a new item

Hello,

I have the following issue with the (Silverlight?) form to add a new item:If the screen has many fields so scroll bars appear (i.e. it's longer than the screen), you can move up and down. YET, if you press to attach a file, the scroll bars dissapear, so you can't see the rest of the form.

To reproduce:

a) make an annoucement list

b) Add a choice field, add many choises and enable multiple values - in order to have a longer-than-the-screen input form.

c) Go to the list , press add-new-item and attach a file: After that, you won;t be able to see all the input form.

Updating multiple Indexes on a table - Performance issue

Hi

I have a performance issue when trying to update a table with multiple indexes. The table itself has about 280 million rows. The selection of the records is fast, about 160 ms, as it has a suitable non-clustered index. However the update itself takes over 10 minutes.

When I look at the excution plan, it shows the update to the clustered index as well 5 other non clustered index which are being affected by the statement. Unfortunately it doesn't show me how those indexes are being accessed. I suspect that the update statement is performing a full index scan against each of the non-clustered indexes in order to do the update.

So my question is this, if i add the key columns of the other non-clustered indexes as included columns on the index used to select the records for update will sqlserver use them to access the additional non-clustered indexes?

any advice greatly appreciated
