OOB Collect Signatures Workflow doesn't start

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I created a Word 2007 file, with signature lines, then added it as a content type to the library.  Then I made it the default New type of file to a SharePoint library with an existing Collect Signatures workflow.  I can create a new instance of the file, then Save it to the document library, but the Workflow doesn't start.  I tried clicking the Workflow button in Word, and clicking the specific workflow I created, but no luck this way either.

What did I miss?

Can I remove / hide the "Approval" and "Collect Feedback" workflow in the "Start a New Workflow" pag

Can I remove / hide the "Approval" and "Collect Feedback" workflow in the "Start a New Workflow" page?

Tks in advance!

Best Regards,

Workflow doesn't always auto start but sometimes does

I have a SPD workflow that is set to auto start when new items are added but it doesn't always start. About 5% of the time adding a new item doesn't start the workflow the rest of the time it does start. Any ideas why it is not starting?

The log is full of these:

Critical Error loading and running event receiver Microsoft.SharePoint.Workflow.SPWorkflowAutostartEventReceiver in Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c. Additional information is below.  : Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

but there is no more info as to what was null.

Thanks for any ideas or help

SharePoint 2010 Collect Signatures workflow - no digital signatures?

Hello, I configured a "Collect Signatures" workflow for the content type "Document", then uploaded a MS Word 2010 (.docx) document as content type "Document".  This Word document as 2 empty Signature Line in it.

I then start the workflow, basically 2-stage with 2 person from my Active Directory.  However, what I found is that when I go to my workflow task and click on the "This document requires your signature" link, it pops up a "Workflow Task" box in the browser.  There is a "Sign" button which I can click to sign but it does not sign on the signature lines inside my Word document.

What am I doing wrong here?  Or does SharePoint 2010 Collect Signatures workflow no longer work with digital sigantures?  Thanks.

collect signatures workflow issue

Hi, All

 I test Collect Signature Workflow  in a Virtual PC, where everything is ok but when I try to run workflow from Clicking on Word2007>Home>Workflow,  the opened window(Collect Signatures Window) is not able to accept any inputs, i can’t type anything in the “signer” text box or click the “signer” button. why? any comments are welcome. thanks

Will the "Collect Signatures" workflow on Sharepoint 2007 work with Word 2010?

Can someone tell me if this is possible with these versions - I can't see anything for workflows on Word 2010. The Document has a signature line and is in a document library. I don't see Workflow in document item's menu option "Workflows"?

Attach Workflow to Task List, don't get option to manually start workflow via dropdown on task item

I am running WSS 3.0 with other workflows which are functioning correctly.  I created a new workflow in Visual Studio 2008 and was able to successfully run it in my dev environment.  I attached the workflow to a task list in my dev environment and was able to manually start the workflow by using the drop down workflow option and using the menus to manually start it.  I installed this workflow in our production environment and attached it to the task list (which had a SPD workflow attached to it which stopped working about a month ago).  I made sure that the option to manually start the workflow was checked.  When I tried to manually start the workflow, (hover mouse over title, drop down) there isn’t a workflow option.  The workflow also will not start automatically when a task is changed.

I attached this same workflow to a different task list in production and get the option to start it.

I have tried creating a small workflow in SPD 2007 and attaching it to the task list.  It shows that it is attached, when I look at the workflows that are attached to the task list, but I still don’t get the option to manually start it.

I have checked my security and I have fu

Workflow "Failed on Start (retrying)" when new item created by BizTalk SharePoint Adapter

We've been using the BizTalk SharePoint Adapter to load various different contents into a MOSS 2007 Document Library. The library has a Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007 workflow (sequential workflow created in Designer) which starts automatically when a new item is added to the Document Library. Or, at least, it eventually starts automatically.

For some unknown reason--and this is what we're hoping some of you may have some ideas on--the workflow fails to start on the first try, producing the "Failed to Start (retrying)" message. When the timer job comes back the second time, the workflow starts successfully, but this causes us to loose five minutes of potential work time (not to mention making us look bad to the VPs and CTO because they see the failure message).

In checking the log, I find the following pair of error messages each time the "Failed to Start (retrying)" status occurs:

Collect Feedback workflow hidden field

Hello all,

I am using the out of box Collect Feedback workflow.  It works well for most part.  However I would like to get reviewer's feedback to be shown on a Dashboard.  Is there a way to expose that information in a Data View?  I couldn't figure out which data field stores the feedback information.

SharePoint 2010 Long Starting if start workflow programatically

In SharePoint 2010, I'm starting workflow #2 programatically from my workflow #1. See code below:

					SPList currentList = web.Lists[new Guid(ListId)];
					SPListItem currentListItem = currentList.GetItemById(ListItem);

					//resolve any lookup parameters
					string workflowId = base.ProcessStringField(WorkflowIdentifier);

					//find workflow association by name
					SPWorkflowAssociation workflowAssoc = currentList.WorkflowAssociations.GetAssociationByName(workflowId, Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture);

					if (workflowAssoc != null)
						//start the workflow
						SPWorkflow workflow = site.WorkflowManager.StartWorkflow(currentListItem, workflowAssoc, workflowAssoc.AssociationData, SPWorkflowRunOptions.Synchronous);

And workflow #2  will hang with Starting status (1-10 minutes), Then the workflow #2 status would be modified  to Completed.

I couldn't find how to start the workflow # 2 immediately and complete immediately without several minutes delay

Modify User in Collect Data from User Workflow

I've created a workflow with a Collect Data from User action that emails a Group when the task is created. Once the task is claimed by an individual, the Assigned To column in the task list is updated to display that person's name but once the task is completed the email variable for the action is not updated and the group is emailed instead of the person listed as Assigned To.

So the question is this: Is there a way to update the user varialbe in the workflow task once the task is completed, or would I need to build my own workflow and use the Send Email action?

Automatic Workflow start through Excel

Dear all,

I have a SPD WF and I want to start it automatically by channging a value in a dropdown inside Excel.

Instead of going to Office button --> Workflows --> Start "Budget Approval", start the workflow by setting a value inside Excel (and maybe saving the file) to "Completed".

Workflow doesn't complete when a task is updated directly from an infopath form.

I have an approval workflow that creates a task for a group to approve or reject an InfoPath form. But if a member of the group opens the form and updates the task from there, it doesn't complete the workflow. It only completes the workflow if they go to the actual task and update it from there. Does anyone know how to fix that?

Workflow doesn't work anymore after renaming list

Hi All, I have created a list with the name "helpdesk test". After testing this list i renamed the list to "helpdesk". I did the rename by the list settings.  To this list i attached some workflows, with Sharepoint designer,  that have to start when a new item is created. All worked fine but after the rename the workflows don't work anymore. When i start the workflows manually from the list all works fine. Is there a way to rename a list and let the workflows work as before? Thanks in advance. Laurens.

Share Point Designer 2007 Workflow (Sequential) - multi-collect data from user

I am currently building a multi-step workflow using ShrePoint designer for MOSS2007. I am getting a bit confused as to if I have an error or if I am doing something incorrect. Here is what I have going. My workflow consists of something similar to the following New document comes in, a collect data from user routine is ran and assigned to a reviewer. My understanding when I create a collect data from user WorkFlow step is any data I request is saved in the "Tasks" list. Therefore I need to grab the workflow task ID in order to later lookup what the reviewer submitted... I understand this...   However, I have one more collect data from user workflow step and I have one more item to collect. Even though this is a brand new collect data from user workflow step - does the collected data still go into the "Tasks" list? In other words, if I have two steps in a workflow and both of these steps are "collect data from user", does the data from both steps go into the same "Tasks" list?  I could see how this might be possible as long as the Task list columns contain all the items for all the different "collect" data from user steps.  I don't see two different Tasks lists representing or named "Reviewer" or "Final" or anything, so I assume the items are all in "Tasks"   However..

WorkFlow will not start. Stuck on workflowRuntime.CreateWorkflow?

In Visual Studio 2008/C# using the wizard I created a 'Sequential WorkFlow Console Application'.  I have made no changes to the project genreated by Visual Studio 2008.  The code gets stuck on:   WorkflowInstance instance = workflowRuntime.CreateWorkflow(typeof(WorkflowConsoleApplication1.Workflow1));Application never timeouts or fails.Any ideas?twahl

How to start a workflow programmatically that was created in Sharepoint designer 2010?

Trying to start a workflow from code.  The workflow itself has been created in SPD 2010, which from what I understand, means that there is no assembly until the first time it's ran.  However, when I try to find the association record, that doesnt exist.  Is this becuase the 'code' hasnt been compiled yet?  If so, how can I have sharepoint start the just-in-time compiler for a declarative based workflow, so that can kick it off with in code? tia Rocky SandersRocky Sanders
