Microsoft Sql Server Embedded Edition Service

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hello All,

Can someone tell me the actual significance of SQL Server Embedded Edition? How is it different from SQL Express edition?

I understood that WSUS 3.0 version uses (installs) the latter when it could not find any SQL 2k  or SQL 2k5 other than SP1 release (please see Issue 33 in: http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServer/en/library/94d1385f-4872-4c29-8822-3a4ec5e45ae41033.mspx?mfr=true) on the host machine.

Besides, when i installed WSS v30 release version, i saw this instance being installed (during the configuration of the Sharepoint products and technologies wizard just after the installation is done). Now with this instance installed, i tried opening this instance (instance name being Microsoft#SSEE) through SQL Server Management Studio, i get the following error

 "TITLE: Connect to Server

Cannot connect to BANAPPS01\MICROSOFT##SSEE.

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 4 (KB2463332) will not install no matter what

This is what I've been trying to install: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 4 (KB2463332) for three days now. I have followed directions from the Microsoft web site and from the few who responded - nothing has worked. The last question I received yesterday was a response from asked if this is what I had: http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2005/en/us/express.aspx

However, I'm not sure; therefore, I am listing what I do have. I don't know if anything listed below connects to that web address or not or even where to go to find it.

What I have on the computer is: Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition (ENU) ,Microsoft SQL Server Native Client, Microsoft SQL Server Set Up Support Files (English),Microsoft SQL Server VSS Writer. Therefore, I am wondering that since I don't downloaded any other Service Pack is why this one refuses to install. Thanks for your help and please put responses in plain English - not a computer wiz.

Installation of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express edition service pack 4 (KB2463332) fails with erro

I have Windows XP and I can't get the KB2463332 to install. The error code in my automatic update history is error code 0xD59I. It has been failing to install since the first of 2011. Even tried to do it manually and eventually got this message, "extraction failed hotfix.exe is not a valid win32 application. I have no idea which forum to choose so if I pick wrong one, please tell me what i should have picked.

SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) update is successful but repeats installin

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) (update 1 of 1) This update seems to be stuck in a loop of installing, each time it successfull installs acccording to automatic updates. Then says it requires installing again straight away. This has been happening for 10 days now. I have tried a manual update from the website rather than automatic updates, no change. Any ideas why? Have posted in Windows update which is where I think the problem lies but they have suggested I post here also.

Which SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack to Install?

I have Windows 2008 Small Business Server Standard Edition.  When I scan for updates I get two different SQL service packs showing up, with the same KB955706 number.  I'm wondering which I should install, or if both, what order to install them in?  The first one is labeled: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 The second one is labeled: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services Service Pack 3 For applications, I have Blackbaud The Financial Edge v7.78 (accounting package for clubs) installed that uses SQL Server 2005 Express Edition for its database engine.  The new upgrade for this software requires SP3 which is why I need to know which service pack to install.  Also, please let me know if there are any tricks to getting the service packs installed on 2008 SBS Standard Edition.  I know sometimes registry settings need to be changed for SQL service packs to be installed properly. Thank you for your help.

Uable to successfully install SQL Server 2005 (Express Edition) Service Pack 3 (KB955706)

After repeated attempts, I am unable to install the MSSQL Server 2005 (Express Edition) Service Pack 3 (KB955706).  From Live Update, the installation initializes but then reports that it was unable to install.  The first couple of times I received Error Code 0x65B, but that doesn't come up any longer. I have ACT! Database version 2007 (9.0) and it is unable to access the database to open it because it uses the MSSQL??  Also, there used to be an MSSQL icon below in my system tray, but that no longer appears.  When I reboot it will be on briefly, but then goes away.. MS Customer Support has attempted to help (Case ID SRX1135612820) but now tell me that this is beyond their expertise.  They had me try to reload MMSQL 2005 but no change. Please help! Thanks!!  Terry

SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 available on Microsoft Update (MU)

Service Pack 2 for SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2005 Express, Server 2005 Server 2005 Express Advanced, and Server 2005 Express Toolkit has been published to Microsoft Update at http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx.

If a SQL Server 2005 component is not on SP2 then the SP2 update will be offered for each language and platform that we support. This update is only available as an optional update on the Microsoft Update web site. To see the update you need to choose "Custom" scan.

The Express updates; Express, Express Advanced, and Express Toolkit will be automatically download and installed, if you have accepted to receive updates through Microsoft Update and you have enable automatic updates on you Windows machines. You can also see the update directly on the Microsoft Update web site.

All of these updates will be available through WSUS so an IT admin can control deployment of these updates through their enterprise.

Customers can optionally obtain SQL Server SP1 through Microsoft Update if they hide the SP2 update.

Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition & CE6

I have an issue on a Janam barcode scanner (wifi) with an App I have written, it appears the realtime SQL login screen intermittently puts a call onto the network when we run it on CE6. When we run the same app on a Psion scanner with CE5 it works every time. I get the feeling its an SQL timing issue / lockout on the local client as no network traffic happens when it occurs, we restart the app and it sometimes works ??

The app is written in VS2008, the framework is v3.5, the cab on the terminal is sqlce.wce5.armv4i.CAB. there is currently no wce600 build but reading up the wce500 should be OK with ce6 ???

Anyone know of any SQL issues like this or what stops the connection to the SQL Server on the network?

Usage of SQL Express from Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition (64-bit) to Windows 7

Website was developed along with the databases of SQL Express with the help of Visual Studio. Whether the developed website along with the databases may be used on the Operating System, Windows 7 of 64-bit? The website will used within Intranet. Which Operating System and configuration to be used for the Intranet Website? Kindly guide me.
