Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in starting the Process for the User

Could someone help with this please? I'm using VWD 2010 to build a new web site - I tried to add a new database file but it won't do it. I started by clicking on the folder 'App_Data', then right clicking and selecting 'Add new item' - after that I tried to add an SQL Server Database but received this message...  'Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in starting the Process for the User Instance' What does this mean? How do I start the 'Process for the User Instance'?  I imagined all that was done for me at the install stage, when I installed VWD2010, but it appears not.  Thank you for any help at all.    Regards

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local appl

Hello everybody.I am working on Login control and I am new in ASP.NET. So far what I did is :1. In Website->ASP.NET Configuration I change the form authentication to internet.2. I created a user profile3. This gave me a ASPNETDB.mdf database.4. I added this code :<connectionStrings> <remove name="LocalSqlServer" /> <add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="data source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> </connectionStrings> in web.config file.4. I added login control to my login page :<%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/MasterPage.master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="Login.aspx.cs" Inherits="Login" Title="Untitled Page" %><asp:Content ID="MainContent" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContentPlaceHolder" Runat="Server"> <h1>Please Login</h1> <asp:Login ID="LoginAuth" runat="server" > </asp:Login></asp:Content> 5. And the login.aspx.cs file has :using System;using System.Collections;using System.Configuration;using System.Data;using System.Linq;using System.Web;using System.Web.Security;using System.Web.UI;using System.Web.UI.HtmlControls;using System.W

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server 2008 Express with Advance Services in Visual Studio

I used SQL Server 2008 Express with Advanced Services (not SQL Server 2008 Express) in Visual Studio 2010 because it is the fast and easy way to developed and managed data-driven applications with powerful built-in reporting and full-text search functionality. I received Sql Server 2008 Service Pack 1 with Windows Update. It's ok if I connect to instance of SQL Server 2008 Express with Advance Services (with SP1) through SQL Server Management, but if I try to attach a database in Server Explorer (Visual Studio 2010), I get the following error: "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed." I'm stuck at this point. Is there a fix or a workaround? I've already tried deleting the 'C:\Users\Administrtor\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS' directory as mentioned in other posts, with no luck. The error.log at 'C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS\error.log' has the following relevant entries: 2010-09-01 14:44:10.47 Server      Error: 17156, Severity: 16, State: 1. 2010-09-01 14:44:10.47 Server      initeventlog: Could not initiate the EventLog Service for the key '3677F6D3-17C7-4F', last error code is 2. 2010-09-01 14:44:10.47 Server &

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server...

Hi   I am using Windows7 OS. I had Microsoft Visual Developer Express 2010 and  Microsoft visual studios 2008 in my computer. When I am creating a database to my project I receive a error "FAILED TO GENERATE A USER INSTANCE OF SQL SERVER DUE TO FAILURE IN STARTING THE PROCESS FOR USER INSTANCE. THIS CONNECTION WILL BE CLOSED" and an option OK. I tried to install SQL server 2005 Express version but that could not help. When I'm creating database in the VS2008 it showed me a dialog box which says "Connection to SQL Server files(*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2005 to function properly. Please verify the installation properly". Can anyone  Please help me.

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the us

I am trying to get an app I created in VB.NET to run on a client machine. The app runs fine on my development machine but when I copy it to a client machine I receive the error:

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance.

I have installed SQL Server Express on both pcs with identical accounts and running identical versions.

What's strange is if I change User Instance = True to User Instance = False in the code, the app runs on the client machine but not on my developer machine.

It seems more like a SQL Server issue than a VB.NET issue.

Any ideas?

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the us

This seems to be a common problem but I've tried everything I could find in all the posts on this topic with no luck.

The server is Windows Server 2008 running IIS7.  The ASP.NET application worked fine but it used SQL Server 2008 Web Edition (10.0.2531) and my goal was to upgrade the Web Application from ASP.NET 2.0 to ASP.NET 4.0 and use SQL Express (10.50.1600).

Here are the confirmations/changes I've made while researching this issue:

 1) SQL Server Express is running as Local System (it is on a domain controller)

 2) sp_configure 'user instances enabled', 1... was already 1, but what the heck, did it again

 3) enabled audit security logon events failure to see if it was a permissions problem

 4) attached the mdb file in SSMS to insure it was ok, it is

 5) removed the files in c:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS

(note, I removed the ones in my administrator user folder as there wasn't one for "local system"

 6) And of course, it works fine on my developement machine, windows 7. :)

Any other suggestions how what I should try or procedures to troubleshoot??

TIA

George

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL server

Wow, many posts on this but I haven't found anything that worked thus far.  I am using Windows XP Pro SP3, Sql Server Express 2008 R2 with SSMS, and Visual Studio 2010 Express.  I opened VWD 2010 and tried to add a connection using datasource: Microsoft SQL Server Datbase File.  I browsed to the folder "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA"  and selected one of the AdventureWorks DB's and tried to connect to it.  I trued to log on to the server using Windows Authentication but I got the error: Failed to generate a user instance of SQL server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance.  I went into SSMS and ran sp_configure 'USER instances enabled' and run_value = 1.

I read many proposed solutions that said I should delete everything in the folder with the path: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS .

Login failed for user IIS APPPOOL\DefaultAppPool

Any Ideas on how to fix this issue?

Visual Studio 2005, Windows 7 64bit, SQL Server 2005 Express

Cannot open database "sql2" requested by the login. The login failed.

Visual Web Dev 2010 error or new user error?

In a new web app, using the fresh new build, I added some fields that I wanted processed during login, i.e. common Profile stuff... added them to web.config.... sadly it appears that Studio 2010 will not automatically create a ProfileCommon class from ProfileBase, as previous studio web IDE's would do - that was frustrating for a bit, then I just created my own class... but that led to this interesting problem.

When populating the new profile attributes, the code behind class could not resolve any of the textbox referenced, all showed as not defined... figuring it was something simple, I kept going... added a customValidation control I needed, but though I double clicked the event in studio, and it dutifully created the stub code for me... the event never fired.

Determined to locate the problem I poored through forum entries and every reference I could (found lots of folks complaining about the profileCommon class stuff which is what led me to create my own class finally) -- but nothing specific to the problem I had of not seeing defined controls that were clearly there and working nor my customValidator control.

But... all of the code samples I saw - none had the ContentTemplate section... curious I removed that section, other items started to fail that were logical (header tags, etc.) but, my code behind section snapped back into order, intelisense n

Error "user does not have permission to perform this operation" with User Instance = True.

I setup SQL Server 2005 / SQL Express. All works fine in SQL Server 2005.

I am connecting to a SQL Database from VS 2005,  Tools/Connect to Database. I set the Data Source to "Microsoft SQL Server Database File (SqlClient)" (meaning SQL Server Express) and User Instance = True, and Integrated Security = True.

The above is working successfully on all machines except my Laptop. On my Laptop, I am getting this error "user does not have permission to perform this operation". On my Laptop, if I change User Instance = False, it works fine. Also, If I connect to SQL Server 2005 it works fine only if User Instance = False.

I tried all kind of security changes, nothing worked. For example, I setup Everyone as Full Control for the Folder and the MDF File of SQL Server. I gave my user ID as sysadmin role in SQL Server Express. Also, I enabled creating User Instance form SQL Server Express, Nothing is working.

Appreciate your help.

Tarek.

A little background because I feel I have an out of the ordinary architecture in place and don't know if this is contributing to the problem.

We have an existing ASP.net application that is undergoing expansion.  The new functionality is all written in Silverlight 4.  As part of that expansion I gutted all the old Linq to SQL and put Entity Framework 4 into place.  To do this I created a standard .net Class Library and added my edmx files there.  Naturally, the business entities created by this cannot be used in Silverlight.  So I created a Silverlight Class Library and added all the business entities to that Silverlight Class Library as linked files.  I changed the name space to be the same.

So I have the following assembly / namespaces

Company.Project.Dal.csproj / Company.Project.Entities (.net 4 class library)

Company.Project.Entities.csproj / Company.Project.Entities (SL4 class library)

With this architecture I was able to share my business entities with my SL enabled web services, my asp.net projects, my silverlight projects.  Really it's a beautiful thing.

Once this was done I added "message" classes to Company.Project.Dal and again shared them with the other entites using linked files.  These messages are things like MyObjectRequest; they are class
