connection pooling from C++

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

My boss asked me to take one of our existing applications, which is written in C++ and connects to MS SQL Server, and get it to use connection pooling. I am new to connection pooling but I understand the general concept.

I found a helpful article, Driver Manager Connection Pooling , that describes the functions that have to be called and how to call them in order for connection pooling to work. I found that the app already calls all of these functions correctly. I wrote my own small app that does the same and I cannot get connection pooling to work.

(I know that connection pooling is not working because I am looking at the incoming connections using SQL Server Profiler. The "EventSubClass" column of the "Audit Login" event is "1 - Nonpooled".)

What should I be doing differently to achieve connection pooling?

Here is the test code I am using:

int
 main(void
)
{
	SQLHANDLE hdlEnv;
	SQLHANDLE hdlConn1, hdlConn2;
	SQLRETURN retcode;
	SQLSMALLINT driver_out_length;

	SQLWCHAR *connString;
	connString =

Typed DataSets/Connection Pooling

 Hey all,

I've got an ASP.net application that has about 100-120 sites connecting to punch in/out in the beg of shift, lunch, and end of shift. I've found that the app gets slow/non-responsive during peak times. Also, I'm noticing that the app will throw Oracle End of File Communication errors periodically during the day. I'm using Strongly typed Datasets to interact with the DB. I have a couple of questions:

1. What type of cleanup should I be performing? Should I be closing/disposing the connection or Adapter instance or is this handled internally by the dataSet?

2. I have the connection pooling set to the default - 100. Should I increase this or will this cause other performance issues? How would one test to see if the connection pool is maxing out? Could this be causing the Oracle EOF (ORA-03113) errors?

Thanks!

Connection Pooling To SQL Server

Hi Folks,

I'm a new SQL PFE and just encountered my first SharePoint installation at a customer site. (The first of many, I'm sure.) I ran some health checks on the SQL Server and noticed 600-700 user connections from the SharePoint account. The SharePoint admins and developers are novice to junior-level, and unfamiliar with connection pooling. I've never worked with SharePoint before and don't know what it's normal behavior is or how connections should be managed by SharePoint.

They indicated the SharePoint system is relatively new and only getting a small amount of use compared to what is expected soon.

SQL Server is handling the load well right now, but if the number of connections grows proportionally to the load, this will become a performance constraint.

1. Is this a normal number of connections for SharePoint?
2. If not, where can the SharePoint staff and myself find a thorough explanation of the principles of SharePoint connection pooling?

Thanks, JDL

HI I am getting the below error on - Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (RTM) - 10.50.1600.1 (Intel X86)   Apr  2 2010 15:53:02   Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation  Standard Edition on Windows NT 6.0 <X64> (Build 6002: Service Pack 2) (WOW64)  ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2010-09-08 14:34:08.81 spid58      Error: 18056, Severity: 20, State: 29. 2010-09-08 14:34:08.81 spid58      The client was unable to reuse a session with SPID 58, which had been reset for connection pooling. The failure ID is 29.  This error may have been caused by an earlier operation failing. Check the error logs for failed operations immediately before this error message. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I restart the IIS server and SQL server since then until today I haven't face similar error. However, I want to understand the reason for it and how to avoid such errors in future. Thanks

Connection Pooling VS Steady Connection in Windows Service Application

Hi All,

We are developing a windows service application which queries the sql db every second. For now, we have enabled connection pooling and every time we open and close connection at every access. Since it is a windows service can I open connection at service startup and close the connection shutdown

Please let me know the right approach in this scenario.

Connection pooling issue with microsoft enterprise library in mysql

I am using microsoft enterprise libarary to connect to mysql using mysql .net connector (latest version 6.2.3)

But i am facing a problem of too many connections and connection pool reached maximum limit issue.

As connection is disposed by enterprise library iteself so i dont close the connection anywhere.

So after two or three hours i found i have 100 mysql connections in sleep mode which are doing nothing and are not being reused from the code .

So i want to ask is there any issue with my code or is there any issue with mysql connector

please suggest me a solution so that i can rectify this issue as it is causing a lot of trouble to me.

Different Workstation ID's and connection pooling

Hello,

I would like to know if i set different workstation ids in my connection string i will still be able to benefit from connection pooling. Does the SQL server (2005) opens a new connection if in the conection string is specified a different workstation ID?

SQL Connection String

We can learn or know how can we connect the database from our .net. This will help for freshers or .NET beginners!

abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

ASP.NET provides a configuration system we can use to keep our applications flexible at runtime. In this article we will examine some tips and best practices for using the configuration system for the best results.

The element of a web.config file is a place to store connection strings, server names, file paths, and other miscellaneous settings needed by an application to perform work. The items inside appSettings are items that need to be configurable depending upon the environment, for instance, any database connection strings will change as you move your application from a testing and staging server into production.

Encapsulation
Let's abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

connection string question from a newbie

when publishing  in the webmatrix dialogue it asks for "destination connection string" for my "database.mdf"

I was not sure what it was so I pasted this from my web.config file :

Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\database.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True

it all published ok, but wont run, so I guess it has somthing to do with this connection string or some kind of configuration issue.

My question is this, What should go in the field for "Destination connection string"

connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly.

I dont have the SQL EXPRESS installed instead I have SQL Standard Edition.

 I have two SQL Server instances installed.

 1- UserLT (this is sql 2000)
2- UserLT\SQL2005 (this is SQL 2005 named instance)

But when i try to add a database to my VS website project I get the following error:

Connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly. please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkId=4925

I went in Tools>Opetions>DataBase tools>Data Connection>Sql Server Instance Name (blank for default)

and changed the "SQLEXPRESS" to "USERLT\SQL2005".

But I still get the same error message. Any ideas how i can resolve this issue?

Intermittant error: "A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respon

Greetings,

I'm having a doozy of a problem, and can't find a solution.  I have a WFC Web Service installed to a pair of servers, and accessed through a load balancer.  I am accessing the service from an ASP.NET client app, also via WCF.  The Client is not load balanced.

I'm getting an intermittant error:

(Inner Most Exception) System.Net.Sockets.SocketException:  A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond x.x.x.x:80

TCP error code 10060: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond x.x.x.x:80.

I can reproduce this error with about 20% reliability if I execute the exact same page request on the client from 2 browsers at the same time.  When the problem occurs, the successful p

Modifying connection String in Web config using Install Wizard

Hey,

Im trying to create a Web Deployment Project, the built in setup and deployment is very good in Visual Studio, i need to able to add an additional step in the setup to change the connection string in the Web config file. Ive seen a lot of articles on how to do this and in particular this http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2007/06/15/tip-trick-creating-packaged-asp-net-setup-programs-with-vs-2005.aspx#7162670 I am however stuck on the final part of this tutorial, im using the code Scott provided but have two errors,  heres part of my code where the errors are

A connection could not be made to the report server http://localhost/ReportServer.

Hi,

  • I created a Report using Business Intelligence Studio. Its working working well, i can able to view records. But when i try to deploy the report an error occurs specifying that "A connection could not be made to the report server http://localhost/ReportServer. (Microsoft Report Designer)".
  • I open the IIS 7 and find out virtual directories "Reports" and "ReportServer" are available.
  • I check on the browser and type "http://localhost/reports".  I find the browser direct to this url: http://localhost/reports/Pages/Folder.aspx and find error specifying the following one:

         Error:The report server is not responding. Verify that the report server is running and can be accessed from this computer.

  • when i type http://localhost/reportmanager, i found the error:

    HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found

    The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.
