What's the Realistic Maximum Number of Index per Table

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

What is a good real world maximum(so i am not looking for this answer:http://blog.sqlauthority.com/2009/06/29/sql-server-maximum-number-of-index-per-table/) for the number of indexes on a table (table has around 50 columns and at the moment 3 indexes)

. I would like to add 3 more indexes on fields that are not used for joining but are searched upon lots of the time. Is this a good idea?

Maximum Number of Processor Cores in CLR

Is the maximum number of processors (cores) supported by different versions of the CLR documented somewhere?  I'm working on an application hang problem and I can see in dumps that a thread is waiting in mscorwks!ThreadpoolMgr::RecycleMemory for a flag whose address was calculated by using the processor number as an index.  I can't see the index in the dump, but the machine has 48 processors and it looks as though the array containing the flags can accomodate only 32 processors, so the thread might be waiting on something beyond the array. Another clue is that there are only 32 GC threads, so I'm suspicious that this CLR will only scale to 32 cores. The CLR in use is the 32-bit version of 2.0 running on 64-bit Windows 2008 SP2.  I'd like to see whether there is a restriction on the number of processors in that version and, if so, whether there is another version that would support more.

Analysis Service Oracle Number inconsistent Data Type for TABLE or Named Query

Dear Gurus, I'd VERY OLD PROBLEM. And I believe it addressed since 2006. When I design DataSource Views from Oracle Data Source. I found it return different oracle number data type for TABLE or NAMED QUERY   Provider Data Type Column Data Type Data Source View Data Type Oracle OLE DB Provider (OraOLEDB.Oracle.1) Table Number System.Int64   View Number System.Decimal   Named Querey Number System.Decimal Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle (MSDAORA.1) Table Number System.Double   View Number System.Double   Named Query   1 System.Int64   Named Query   1.1234 System.Int64 Althought I know I can fix IT via MANUALLY EDIT DATASOURCE VIEW XML SOURCE. But I don't think this is a better solution. Is anybody have ideas ?  Wilson

Wierd case of: Msg 213, Column name or number of supplied values does not match table definition

Hi, I'm working on several triggers (that happen after insert or update) in order to log the changes in a different table. They all follow a similar syntax and are working fine, except for this one... I've reduced the next code to the minimum that gives an error, so we can safely assume the other parts of the trigger are working fine. INSERT INTO [Adt].[WardUnitStayLog] SELECT t.* FROM [Adt].[WardUnitStay] t INNER JOIN inserted i ON i.[Id] = t.[Id]; I've used this same syntax (but on different tables) in other triggers, and these are working perfectly fine. The above query provides the next error: Column name or number of supplied values does not match table definition. I've checked both tables for differences in the columns, but to no avail... (I've checked them manually and by outerjoining the information_schema.columns) (I've also checked the order in wich these columns are defined, they match over the two tables) These are the creation scripts for the tables: CREATE TABLE [Adt].[WardUnitStay] ( [Id] [dbo].[Id] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [UnifiedUnitStayId] [dbo].[Id] NOT NULL, [WardCd] [dbo].[Cd] NOT NULL, [_FirstAtTm] [dbo].[Dtm] NOT NULL, [_IsReservation] BIT NOT NULL, [_LastAtTm] [dbo].[Dtm] NOT NULL, [_LastBedCd] [dbo].[Cd] NULL, [_LastPhysicianUid]

Changing table name and Index relation

Hi experts, Does changing the table name in sql require anything with the indexes as well? Do I need to drop and create indices in this case? Regards

Max number of rows in a table

Hey I'm doing a bit of research on which database to use for a new project. And one of the factors I have to take into consideration, is that we will have some tables with a high amount of records. I originally intended to use mysql (because it's free), but I have found that it has a cap of 4.2 billion rows per table. And it is a possibility that we will exceed that number in a few of our tables. So far, from looking around here, and on the web, I've only be able to find, that is no such cap on tables in mssql, and that table sizes is only limited by available storage. The thing is, 99% of the info I found regarding tablesize limits in mysql, also stated that it was only limited by the storage size (4gb, not all available). I had to look very thouroughly to find that last 1% where someone mentioned the 4.2 bil. upper limit. I hope someone here can confirm that, there is indeed no limit on the number of records in a single table in mssql, no hidden cap, however unlikely to be an issue. I find, that there's a ton reasons to pick mssql over mysql. But this factor will be a big selling point, in convincing the higher-ups that mssql is the better choice for my project.

Partitoning Table in SQL 2008 - Index

1. How is the index mainitained for a partitioned table?  2. Whether SQL Server has an overhead in maintaining INDEX in a partitioned table compared to a non-partitioned one? 3. If i insert few rows, does it affect the INDEX statistics in all partitions or only the affected partition. I would like to find out more details on how SQL Server manages INDEX on a partitioned table.

Maximum number of items in a SharePoint 2010 list

Hi, Is there a recommended maximum number of items that can go into a SharePoint 2010 list? I seem to recall that earlier versions seemed to have performance problems with more than 2000 items. I have a table that has some 50,000 records and would love to convert it into a list.   Thanks John JohnSpilker

How to know the number of columns displayed on the last page for Multi column table

Hi, How will I determine how many columns to be displayed on the last page of the report if I am using a Multiple column table.  I am going to use the number of columns to multiply with the width of the body of the report. I am going to use a Function to get the product.

Table scan going on apart from having an Index

Hi,

I have a stored procedure where the performance is bad. The Execution plan shows 5 table scans each of cost 12%. The data is being pulled from the table using the following where clause.

where (datestamp>getdate() - 'sep28 1902 12:00 AM')

I already have an index on Datestamp column but still Table scan is happening. There is no restriction on avoiding index is specified in the query.

If the index is place inappropriately there would be index scan but here I have table scan.

Could anyone help me in finding out why this is happening.

-Thank you,

Jayasree

How do i iterate through a table that does not have an index column?

hi friends,

I have the following table variable that i store rows extracted from an xml document;

declare @tbl_ans table ( AnsText nvarchar(max), IsCorr bit)

this cannothave an index column.

assume it has 25 rows, i need insert each row to a table  that has three columns

That Answers table has following structure:

a_idx int,

a_text nvarchar(max),

is_active int,

upt_date datetime

The script should iterate through the @tbl_ans_table table and insert each to the answers table then i should fetch each a_idx in each iteration and insert it to another. But the problem is how itereate through @tbl_ans_table without an index?

thanks

Replicating a table to it's duplicate with different physical /index structure

Hello,  We're planning to replicate a very large table (about 1TB) -- Yes Table, not database.  Can afford only very little (10-20 min)  downtime.    Is it possible to have clean replication with the source table in the source database (non partitioned) to destination table in the destination database (partitioned and indexed differently than the source) ?   Although data is the same.     We're primarily doing this replication for paritioning sake , as we can't afford downtime.  So the plan is to replicate the entire source database to the destination.   There are 2-3 large tables that hold 80% of the database data.   So when both DBs are in sync, we'll repoint the production.

   Thanks.
