(Not sure if the DB Engine forum is a better place for this q, but thought I'd start here first :)
SQL Server 2008, 64bit. 3 File groups (plus a log), each with one physicial file in the group. Each physcial file is on it's own drive. File group X has a file "X1" and is growing and dangerously close to running out of space on the drive. I added a second
file ("X2") to the X filegroup on a different drive with plenty of space as follows:
ALTER DATABASE MyDB ADD FILE (NAME = X2, FILENAME = 'V:\X2.ndf', SIZE=100MB, FILEGROWTH=1000MB) TO FILEGROUP X
I was under the impression that the files would grow equally in parallel... the 2nd file is still 100MB, but probably because X1 has not experienced growth yet. My question is... Am I in any danger since the X1 file may run out of space, or will the data
automatically redirect over to the X2 file as needed?
