SQL2005SP1 install Freezing on cluster Install

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Help!,  I am trying to install sql server 2005sp1 onto a cluster.  I have installed 6 other instances on this cluster with no problem.  Now I am going to install and it is just hanging.  The status window shows it is at the Installing WMI registration on the primary node and Removing backup files on the secondary node.  Looking at the log files I see no errors.  On the primary node here is a snippet of the last couple of lines from the log

named instance sql server 2008 install on cluster

I have a production two-node cluster with sql server 2008 sp1 cu7 running over windows server 2008 sp2. If I were to install a new named instance on this live environment, would it impair the default sql server instance functionality? I'm not referring to processor/io while the install is in progress. My question specifically is would the install process by its nature bring down the default instance. I'm pretty sure it won't, but don't see any documentation that would confirm this. thanks.

Platform:   2 servers (clustered) with windows server 2008 x64 r2 (enterprise) Application: sql2008 x64 enterprise with SP1 (slip streamed) Problem: sql2008 new cluster install fails using the COMMAND LINE with a CONFIGURATIONFILE.INI The install starts but stops with the log file in the setup bootstrap folder  => (Detail_ComponentUpdate.txt) below. Bottom lines indicate a REBOOT is required; did a reboot on both nodes and still have the same problem. Used the following command line to launch sql2008 setup: Setup.exe /Q /SQLSVCPASSWORD="**********" /AGTSVCPASSWORD="**********" /ASSVCPASSWORD="**********" /ISSVCPASSWORD="**********" /RSSVCPASSWORD="**********" /ConfigurationFile=ConfigurationFile.ini Anyone has any success installing sql2008 using command line and command file? thanks john ------------------------------- tail end of the Detail_ComponentUpdate.txt file ----------------------------------------------- 2010-09-01 15:59:44 Slp: ------------------------------------------------------------ 2010-09-01 15:59:44 Slp: C:\SQL2008 Enterprise with SP1\x64\FixSqlRegistryKey_x64.exe exit code: 0 2010-09-01 15:59:44 Slp: Launching external tool: C:\SQL2008 Enterprise with SP1\x64\FixSqlRegistryKey_x86.exe 2010-09-01 15:59:44 Slp: ------------------------------------------------------------ 2010-09-01 15:59

SQL server 2008 failover cluster install

Hello all, Looking for the definitive answer with supporting documentation (link). Does a SQL server 2008 cluster have to be installed as or run as a domain service account or can local accounts be used?  I looked for a document that stated yes or no and could not find one. If anyone can provide info it would be much appreciated. Have all ready looked at these 2 links of interest. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143504.aspx#Service_SID http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731002(WS.10).aspx Thanks in advance,

SQL server 2008R2 install on a server 2008 R2 failover cluster. Other resources won't failover to o

As the subject says, I've built a fresh install w2k8r2 and sql2k8r2 failover cluster. Sql works fine on the primary node, but when I test a failover it breaks. Specifically, if I were to stop the node1 cluster service (causing the cluster to switch to node2), windows changes the cluster DNS appropriatly and moves the shared storage just fine, but sql server doesn't failover.  Server Name, Disk Drives and Other Resources all go offline. I've verified that the advanced policies of the server name, IP, cluster drives all have both nodes checked as possible owners However, Other resources only lists node1 as a possible owner and there appears to be no way to add node2.  Under the Other resources, SQL Server and SQL Server Agent are listed. I'm sorta stumped, I've been combing the forums and have found similar issues, but nothing seems to explain why the two resources won't failover.

Failover Cluster Install on Server 2008 R2 (RC)

Has anyone successfully installed a SQL Server 2008 Failover Cluster on Server 2008 R2 (RC)? I'm getting stuck at the Instance Configuration screen, i get an error when trying to detect the SQL Server Network Name, here is the error:

The given network name is unusable because there was a failure trying to determine if the network name is valid for use by the clustered SQL instance due to the following error: 'The network address is invalid.'

I've setup a 2008 SQL Failover Cluster in Server 2008 SP1 without a problem.

Domain groups in Cluster Security policy during install of SQL Server 2008

I am trying to install SQL Server 2008 on Windows server 2003 and have a question about the stage of 'Cluster Security Policy'.

We need to select 2 groups here, one for SQL server database domain group and the other for SQL server agent domain admin group.

My question is, is it different from service accounts that we used to specify in previous versions? I remember the wizard asking for service account that the sql services need to run under. Is this domain group part a replacement for those individual service accounts? If yes, do I need to have the service account added to a separate group and select that group in this part of 'Cluster security policy'?

SQL Server 2005 cluster install with SSRS and SSIS - best approach for installs and migration?

I just installed SQLServer 2005 STD edition SP3 on an active/passive 2 node cluster, Intended to replace a SQLServer 2005 sp3 EE install (not clustered) that is in production now using SSIS and SSRS.  I would need to migrate the databases, reporting, and Integration Services over to the new server cluster.

1.    Does it make sense to run on a SQL Server 2005 on a cluster if SSIS and SSRS are not cluster aware? This is my 1st time adm

Sql failover cluster node 1 install error

Cluster validation error on Install

We've got 2 Windows 2008 x64 R2 server (with same hardware) and have built a Windows Cluster with Quorum and shared disks. The Cluster Validation wizard runs error-free on both servers.

Trying to install SQL 2008 R2 Failover Cluster. The Installation is ok till we get to the Setup Support Rules page: here we get "Microsoft Cluster Service (MSCS) cluster verification errors" and "Microsoft Cluster Service (MSCS) cluster verification warnings. both Failed.

Is there a log or similar where we can get detailed error information to what is causing this? The error message (when you click on "Failed" in the wizard) is useless.

Does anybody have any general information what to look for?

Thanks for your help

Where do you install SSAS data files on a cluster?

I have a Win 2003/SQL 2005 cluster. Now I am installing SSAS. The default path chosen by the installer is C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\  (there are 2 instances of SQL on the cluster).

It doesn't seem to make sense to install on the C: drive, which is a local drive, not shared by both nodes of the cluster.

I found this Microsoft article

which says:

Data root directory -- For failover cluster installations, ensure that data directories are placed on the shared disk.

But then under Notes it says -- Program files and data files cannot be installed in the following situations: On shared drives on a failover cluster instance.

So should I create a directory such as:

S:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\OLAP

on the SAN and install there?

Finally, in the installer I have to choose 3 different directories:
The default for SSAS
Data Files
Shared tools

Do these all go under the OLAP folder?

Thank you very much!

SqlServer - Windows Account to install Application from Gallery

Referring to this tutorial: http://www.asp.net/webmatrix/tutorials/download-and-install-an-asp-net-application

I selected umbraco cms and got this wizard:

I already have Standard Sql Server 2005 on my machine which I wanted to us for above DB and not SqlExpress.

I did not remember "sa" account pwd nor I use explicitly any account to connect to my Sqlserver. I use Windows Authentication account i.e implicit authentication. So I created new account and gave all rights and used it in the above wizard and was able to install the database after some struggle.

My question is: What if I want to use my Windows Account to install the database above? Why the wizard don't have any option to use Windows Integrated Authentication?

Note: I can create the DB with external user I created, just looking specifics for using Windows Authentication for above installation.

VWDE 2010 Won't Install Ajax Control Toolkit on XP Pro

To my displeasure I cannot find VWD2005 which at one time would generate a complete web.config for Ajax so I downloaded and installed VWDE 2010 to a clean install of XP Pro.

I've created a new tab on the toolbar for the controls but after I select the Ajax dll to add the controls to the toolbar it grinds away and then goes poof and closes down the task leaving VWD look as if I had never even created the tab in the toolbar.

Any advice here?
