Importing a query from an .mdx file - Support (SSRS 2008)

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I'm writing an MDX query which would be used as the main dataset. The issue that I'm facing is that the query is really big because of it's nature of members and requirement and Reporting Services doesn't support the number of characters that I'm using. So I saw this Import button and imported the MDX query. However I don't get the list of members in the fileds section which I can use in the Report Textbox. I was reading http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd239327.aspx and it says that "Importing a query from an .mdx file is not supported"....

My question is would it every be supported? Is there a workaround for what I'm trying above? I would appreicate any help on the same.

Thank you!

SSRS 2008 R2 - Query builder freezes and needs to be shut down Report Builder 3 when attempting quie

Hi, In SSRS, using Report Builder 3.0 (SSRS R2), after choosing a Report Model as the report's embedded data source, launched "Query Deisinger…" from GUI to build data source in report.  First 1-2 attempts at querying underlying data source (Oracle back-end), are successful, but later attempts freeze application to the point where application freezes and overall Report Builder application needs to be forcibly shut-down. This system freeze has occurred when referencing tables containing a very small number of records as well as larger data sets.  Suspect that application freezing may be caused by timing-out of connection to back-end database. but I am not sure. Any suggestion to solve this issue? How do you freeze the tablix header row in an Excel export file in SSRS 2008?

So this is totally killing me. I've found out how to make a tablix header row repeat on each page of a PDF export file in SSRS 2008 (which I won't even get started on because all I can say is that 2005 is way better), but I cannot figure out how to make a simple header row of a tablix freeze in an Excel export file.  The tablix is right at the top of the body and spans the entire width of the design area.  How in the world do you get it to freeze in the Excel export file?

Doubt on WorkingSetMinimum setting in SSRS 2008 configuration file

Hello All,

I have been reading about memory settings for SSRS 2008 for better performance in this link.                                                          http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms159206.aspx  WorkingSetMinimum definition here says that "Specifies a lower limit for resource consumption; the report server will not release memory if overall memory use is below this limit."

Now, I have set the WorkingSetMinimum value as 2.4GB and when I am executing a report with 300K records, I observed in Perfmon that it has consumed around 1GB of available memory during report run time but the report server has not acquired the designated memory of 2.4GB in WorkingSetMinimum as I can see more memory as available MB than the value supposed to be after dedicating minimum memory of 2.4 GB to report server.

  1. My first question, has report server not acquired the minimum memory configured in WorkingSetMinimum because it didn't required that much memory to construct the report? &nb

SSRS 2008 R2 After using SSL, In Report Manager new datasource link, upload file link, subscription

I have provided my setting and environment information below. My goal is to set Report Manager and Report Server URL with SSL connection so all URLs uses HTTPS (Secure connection) all the time. and remove HTTP access .

I applied following settings for this but I am getting errors. With Current Settings that I mensioned below, I am able to login into WebService URL successfully with all links working. For Report Manager URL  I logged in successfully but for some pages I am getting HTTP links instead HTTPS. It shows HTTP links for new datasource link, upload file link, subscription links so it shows blank page

I tried to look for solution and I applied but did not worked. I did some experiment with changing urls using application and manually from RSReportServer.config file but still not succedded.

Steps taken to solve problem:

  • To force to use HTTPS only, I tried to change SecureConnectionLevel = 0 to  1,2 or 3 but when accessing to Report Manager it gives 401 Authentication error.
  • If I remove http://+:80/ReportServer and tried to visit 2nd URL with HTTPS. The Web Service URL opens successfully. but Report Manager url gives me er

SSRS 2008 log file - maximum memory limit

In my SSRS 2008 log file, in few starting lines I see these lines;

INFO: Reporting Services starting SKU: Enterprise
resourceutilities!ReportServer_0-3!1874!10/05/2010-13:32:29:: i INFO: Maximum memory limit is 2097152Mb

What does it mean by maximum memory  limit is 2097152Mb?

I have set the maximum memory limit for SSRS to 5 GB.

How to check for file exists on remote server in ssrs 2008?

I have a report that needs to display images that are stored on a remote web server. The problem is that I also need to check if the file exists first otherwise I get those annoying image not found red X's.

I tried entering the code at the bottom in the custom code section of the report which works if I run it on my local machine however it doesn't work in SSRS 2008. After doing a little trial and error I found it seems to be failing on the first line in the function,

Dim request = System.Net.WebRequest.Create(New Uri (fileURL))

Is there some specific permissions or configuration change needed on the SSRS2008 server for this code to work? Or is there a better way to do this?

Public Function CheckRemoteURL(ByVal fileURL As String) As String
Dim request = System.Net.WebRequest.Create(New Uri (fileURL))
request.Method = "HEAD"

Dim returnURL = ""

Dim response = request.GetResponse()
returnURL = fileURL
Catch ex As Exception
returnURL =""
End Try

Return returnURL
End Function

SQL Server 2008 r2 - Setup support files - Install error / reading from file

I'm installing SQL server 2008 r2 on a Win2003 R2 x86 system.

After i start the setup, the "setup support files" box begins installing, after a while i get this error:

"Error reading from file f:\1033_ENU_LP\x86\setup\sqlsupport_msi\PFiles\SqlServr\100\Setup\ewbfphdh\x86\Patch\rs2000.msp verify that the file exists and that you can access it."

I've tried another DVD, i've tried a mounted share on another machine...no go....i've tried an ISO file mounted on this server... same error.

Is there any way i can install this "setup support files" from another location? (download)

Is there a switch soo it won't install reporting services? (...i think this file rs2000.msp is from reporting services)

    Unable to upload report file to SSRS 2008 R2 Express

    I'm attempting to upload a report file into an instance of SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services (Express edition), and I'm having difficulty. While I can do things like create folders and manage security, I am unable to upload a report definition (.rdl) file from either the web console or via the ReportService2005.asmx web service. Both avenues eventually time out and generate a 401 error (though I am not sure that this 401 is legitimate, as it takes over a minute and a half to generate the error).

    This instance is running the web services on a non-standard port (8080) in HTTP (not HTTPS) mode, as it's on a Windows XP Pro machine with an existing website on IIS.

    I have looked at the report server access log, and this appears to happen when it errors out:

Error Importing from .xlsx file to MSQL 2008

Hi All

This is my first post as a new member of this site.

I am trying to import a large .xlsx file into MSQL 2008.

It ran fine up until almost the end of the process then fails. I am completely new at this and would really appreciate some help.

I have included links to the file I am trying to import "AffiliateFutureSoccer - Condenced - Full.xlsx" BUT as this is a fairly large file with a lot of records I have also included a "...Test.xls" version with only 98 lines. Additionally I have also included ".csv" formats of the same files in case they are needed.

Finally, I have included the error report that was generated whilst trying to perform the import. "Report1.txt"

I tried the ...test.csv which has 98 entries and that worked.

Additional info: The files are stored on my Dropbox account, I am an admin on my PC (it's a home PC running Win 7 Ultimate)

Thanks in advance,

Does SSRS 2008 Support Rich Text Formatting?

Couldn't find any recent responses to this. Does anyone know if the 2008 version supports rich text formatting? Thanks

SSRS 2008 Change configuration file

Hi All,

We are having rdl files which were created on BIDS 2005 and delpoyed to SSRS 2005 now we have upgrade our Report Manager from 2005 and 2008, most of the report sends email subscriptions to our end-users with an attachment file to export version as "EXCEL".

Everything was working fine and perfectly as expected with SSRS 2005, but after our upgrade to 2008 we are receiving error as below under EXCEL Files:-

into the cell(s) of the Excel spreadsheet.

To resolve this issue we change on the format code of text boxes under our rdl files from "#0" to "N0", and everthing was resolved successfully with the export version of the EXCEL.

So my question is, we have more than 1000 of rdl files which sends an email subscriptions to our end-users so is their any way were we can change above mentioned format code to Reporting Services Configuration file instead of changing all the rdl files individually.

One change at the Configuration is much better than changing 1000 of rdl files!!! Isn't it?

Please help me out?

Trouble importing .dbf file into SQL server 2008 express edition

Hey all,

I'm having trouble exporting my .dbf file into Microsoft SQL server 2008 express edition. I set up an ODBC using a couple different drivers and different versions of the drivers and still got the same error. Below is the error message I am receiving.

If any one can help that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

While Importing Excel 2007 file to Datatable - headerrow problem

Hi there,

I am trying to simply extract an excel data from an uploaded file an put it into a datatable. In this case the excel file has 3 rows but when I fill the datatable I only see row count of 2.

I tried changing HDR:NO; to HDR:YES and vice versa, but no luck.

What am I doing wrong? (Note: the excel file cannot have a  headerrow)

string connstr = "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=" + pFilePath + ";Extended Properties=\"Excel 12.0;IMEX=1;HDR:NO;\"";
            OleDbConnection conn = new OleDbConnection(connstr);
            DataTable dtTables = conn.GetOleDbSchemaTable(System.Data.OleDb.OleDbSchemaGuid.Tables, null);
            string strTablename = dtTables.Rows[0]["TABLE_NAME"].ToString();
            string strSQL = "SELECT * FROM [" + strTablename + "]";

            OleDbCommand cmd = new OleDbCommand(strSQL, conn);

            DataTable dt = new DataTable();
            OleDbDataAdapter da = new OleDbDataAdapter(cmd);
            //At this point row count=2 which doesn't make sense
