Remote login - 2008 R2

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi,

I'm having an issue connecting to my SSRS instance remotely.  Everything works fine when I'm logged on to the server.

I can log in remotely via SSMS and BIDS using basic authentication only.  When I try to login through windows authentication it says I do not have access (I am an administrator and again, local login works fine).

When I attempt to browse to the http://servername/reportserver or http://servername/reports URLs through IE, I get a user/pass popup which appears 3 times then just leaves me with a blank screen, no error message.

I have checked rsreportserver.config and have verified that I have the correct URL in the <ReportServerUrl> tag.

This is otherwise a fresh install.

Does anyone have any insight?  It seems strange that basic auth works when windows auth doesn't.

Thanks

Sql Server 2008 logs Authentication mode incorrectly avoids remote login

Im trying to connect SQL server 2008 Express R2 installed on XP sp3 pc through ODBC SQL Server driver with a Windows 7 PC. I managed to define static IP ports and setup firewall. Now the ODBC connection successfully gets created by accepting uid : sa and my password given.

Now Im getting "login failed for user ". " msg from my application. When I run the same application with same ODBC connection created in the SQL server PC it works fine. The two pcs operate in a workgroup.

Following  is the error log. Im surprised to note that the server logs its in Mixed mode initially and later makes a cry that its in Windows Authentication mode. !!!!

Remote access to SQL-Server 2008 R2 on Windows Server 2008 denied

Hello, after successful installation of SQLServer 2008 R2 and providing my account as a 'sysadmin' I failed to access the server from a management studio of a SQL-Server 2005 release installation. The TCP/IP access is enabled and the server is configured to allow access from remote connections.  The error message reads a follows: ' A network-related or instance-specific error occured while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify ... (Provider: Named Pipes Provider, error 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)(Microsoft SQL Server, Error:2)' Accessing the SQL-Server by the management studio from the local host works fine but trying to acces by command line using the '-E' parameter fails. Is there any additional configuration on the operation system level needed to open a SQL-Server 2008 instance to be selected by other members of  domain groups from the non-local host? Thank you for the answer

Remote Connection to SQL Server 2008

Hi everyone,    I'm allowing remote connections, have started the SQL Server Browser, and have the TCP/IP protocol enabled for my server instance, but I still can't connect to my SQL server remotely.   I have my router forwarding to the local IP for it when using port 1433 and it works when I put the router ip with 1433 locally, but it gives me an error when I try this remotely. It throws a timeout error, so it isn't even reaching it.   Any suggestions?

URGENT: Remote Host DB Returns Login Failure on All Databases

Hi, I have a mixture of sites hosted in various places powered by multiple databases located at the same place. Today the sites that had been finished a while ago and operating just fine on autopilot with no recent work done started returning login errors, but I also believe I saw an error related to the connection refusing remote connections the first time I saw it. I opened a ticket with my host and it has been listed as "In Progress" for the past three hours now with no improvement.I am hoping someone here might have a better idea how to handle this than they do.I tried adding new users and changing my main login password on their Paralles H-Sphere control panel, but every time I click submit I get an unkown error that the change could not be done. Every dynamic page on all of my sites whose databases are hosted there look like this: Server Error in '/' Application. Login failed for user 'MyUserName'. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. SSRS 2008 - report manager: System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server

I have an instance of Reporting Services 2008 running on Windows 2003 server.  So, the webservice URL is running on port 801, and runs fine (I can browse reports from that directory, and upload / deploy new reports and overwrite existing reports. Report manager is set to use port 800 (IIS is also on that machine running port 80).  When I attempt to connect to report manager, I get the following error, with a link to "Home" in report manager (which brings me back to the existing error page):    Unable to connect to the remote server  In the logfiles for reporting services, the following error is there: " System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.   Any ideas? Windows Firewall is NOT running on this machine.   Thanks, Chrisrjp

PERFMON: Cannot see SQL Server 2008 R2 64 bit instance counters from remote machine

Hi, I have 2 machines X and Y. I am using X machine to run perfmon which will remote connect to Y machine and collect the counters for Y machine. I am surprised to see that I am not able to see the counters for SQL Server 2008 R2 64 bit when I remote connect the perfmon on X machine to Y machine. However, when I directly log in to Y machine and open perfmon, I can see the counters for SQL Server 2008 R2 64 bit !! What is not allowing me to see those counters while connecting remotely? I have same adminstrator rights on both machine for my login and use same login details to log into both machines. Both machiens X and Y are in same network and same domain. Any help will be appreciated.
