Create empty cache? and Recommended Approach

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi Guys,

I have a DataFlow that selects the distinct Date into a recordset variable. Based on the Date variable, I have a ForEach Loop container that reads the Date variable. Inside the ForEach Loop container, I have another DataFlow that create a Store cache. In the Store cache data flow, I added a new column based on the Date variable and then create a cache.

Now my question is, what is the best approach to handle null Date variable? or Is it possible to create an empty Store cache? I was thinking to create a Store cache even it is empty so that the other DataFlow object can be processed.

Improving performance of UPDATE CUBE by executing preceding CREATE CACHE for the same cell / subcube

Hi All, Recently I came across one of suggestions by Microsoft Advisory consultant regarding optimization data write-back pattern for the SSAS cubes. It was recommended issuing CREATE CACHE command following by UPDATE CUBE for the same cell/subcube definition: CREATE CACHE FOR [MYCUBE] AS ("Cross join of all the dimension members defining subcube to be updated") UPDATE CUBE [MYCUBE] SET ("Cell") = 100, ("Another Cell") = 200,... etc. for every cell. This seems quite weird, but based on our benchmark the entire process (CREATE CACHE and UPDATE CUBE) takes less time than just UPDATE CACHE. Folks, can someone advice on the insights of the process? Shell this approach to be suggested for an enterprise-level planning application? Regards, -h

Server is completely empty and I can't create a normal database

I use Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express on Windows 7.

Don't ask me how, but when I was erasing a database I no longer desired, I erased the 'Database' folder on the server.

Pitiful I know, but I am only learning how to use databases this year... and I'm not even learning it on MSSQL.

Every time I try to connect to a new instance, it is created without any folder to place databases and running a script that used to restore a database I have returns an error saying that the token 'RESTORE' is incorrect. This didn't happen before.

I've tried uninstalling SQL Server and SQL SMSE and re-installing. No matter how much I try to erase every residue of past installations, the new installation always recovers the state of the previous one, showing exactly the same server structure and database name.

How do I remake the entire server?

P.S. I'm curious as to why this information is stored in my computer, information that I am unaware of. Is the Server a part of Windows itself? Why can't I control the information the system stores and simply erase any evidence of a previous server so I can create a new one?

Webpart causing authentication error when cache is empty - showing just fine, when a lokal admin has

I'm having some trouble with a webpart and some rights, I think.

I have created a webpart, showing some data from at database. Based on which Active Directory group the user is in, some part of the webpart is either show or hidden.

My problem is now, that every morning, the webpart causes an error, saying you need to logon. When I open the same page from the local machine with a local admin, the webpart shows up, and the webpart is now show as it should for everyone.
This behaviour happens next morning.

The webpart is deployed to the GAC.
I also sometimes se the problem when a user, who is in a group that enables them to se the "add comment" part of my webpart, they get the error, but the user, which are NOT allowed to se the "add comment" part see the webpart just fine.

I hope it is clear, what my problem is, but I will gladly try to explain deeper, what the issue is.

SDLC Approach or Software Development Life Cycle

SDLC process stats from conception to completion of any software project. According to this approach the software development team is responsible for the whole project development life cycle. After doing SRS and requirements analysis; developers follow different models of Software development Life Cycle (SDLC) available, while the most common model is SDLC waterfall model. They divide project in different stages & phases and the output of each stage or phase becomes the input for next stage.

Create And Run Excel Macro At Runtime in C#

You've been tasked with writing a Windows Form application using the .NET Framework that interacts with Microsoft Excel. If you are new to working with Excel in .NET and are having trouble learning how to format certain cells or cell ranges, then this little tip will come in handy. Rather than scour the internet hoping to find the correct set of constants or method syntax for formatting your spreadsheet, use the built in tools in Excel to write the familiar VBA code for you. Then, you can paste the VBA code generated by Excel into the sample C# code below and run it dynamically at runtime.

Create and Use a Typed DataSet by Using Visual C# .NET

This article shows you how to create and use a typed DataSet in a small Web application. Typed DataSets, which inherit from the DataSet class, create first-class members of a DataSet's DataTables and DataColumns, yielding the many benefits that come with the use of strong typing.

How to create a windows mobile (Smart Device) .Cab installer

A Cab file is the default setup format for Windows CE and Windows Mobile devices (similar to windows .msi files). You probably already have installed several application using .cab files, and are familiar with the concept. One point which is often unknown is that .cab files are processed by wceloader.exe, and it can only install one .cab file at a time. That means we cannot have nested .cab files. It doesn't mean we cannot have .cab files contained by another .cab, but the contained .cab files will not be installed during the installation of the container .cab. We should install it manually after the container .cab file installation has been completed.

There are two ways to create a cabinet (.Cab) file. The traditional one, and the friendly VS Smart Device Cab project which doesn't require additional coding, but which also relies on the traditional one at low-level.

Create Web Site vs Web Application

I follow the tutorial and creted a web site for my company sales system. One of my collegue mention we use the wrong templet, we should use Web application for company application.

Should i continue using web site or change to web application? We are creating application for company sales, inventory, hr ,etc where possible more than 1000++ user. And during month end, it will be high traffic and transaction. can Web Site Template with BLL and DAL handle it? or i just need a powerful server?

Create an API (aspx vs mvc)

Hi everybody!

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, so, sorry if it's not. I have to create a web application. I can handle that. But, it has a requirement I've never done before. I need to create an API for that application, so other apps can get or set information from/to my webapp.

I've been searching a lot and still don't have a starting point. Seems that MVC is really good to do that, but I'm not familiar with MVC, so I would need a starting point. I was thinking to do it in aspx (Framework 4), but do not know how to do that with aspx either.

Can anyone help me to get started with this?

Thanks in advance

I thought this would be simple... Trying to create a login does an ajax check before submit

I have the standard .net login control that is working.  (Still learning .net after 15yrs of classic)

What I want to do is OnButtonClick run a javascript function (to do an ajax call to the db to check if login is valid or not) and if it returns true, then submit the form normally, else don't submit. The piece that I can't figure out, is how to correctly override the default click even to hit my JS routine and then submit the form properly afterwards.

Thanks ahead of time

MVC2 issue - Stuck. Trying to create a cms with nested partials

I am currently trying to display multiple items on a single page. I am not sure as to how to tackle this. What I have is a database table that has all the page data in. I have this run as a PagesController and this works fine. However what I would like to do is, if say the Products page is selected via the menu, I want to pull back not only the Products page html but also get all the products, and even be able to pull them through via category. I was trying to use a partial view, but I can't get it to work. The same would be for other pages, having partial views to display the other content, ie if Gallery is selected, the page html for Gallery shows and it then can push to a partial view that pulls all the gallery images from the gallery db table and so on.

Maybe I am tackling this the wrong way. I have the pages stored in the db to allow for a CMS system I have setup. Maybe I need to use models for all the other items(Products, Gallery, Videos and such) and use the partial for the page html?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am confused.
