Issue with MOSS 2010, infopath, I.E. 8 and pdf file (no open, just save-cancel)

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hello,

I have an annoucement list, which  has been customized in infopath ("customize Form" button). Nothing funcy, just adding some comments.

When i open an item with I.E. 8., and click on  the (attached) pdf file, a popup window appears with only the selections: (save-cancel)

If I do the same steps using I.E. 7, I have the selection "open", so I can see the pdf file inside my browser.

Is there any solution?

Also, two newbie questions:

a)Is there a way to revert to the original open-edit-new item form and discard the infopath forms?

b) how to show the created by/last modified date/last modified by in this infopath form?

Thank you

sharepoint-2010 how to open files that prompt for save or cancel

In SharePoint 2010, there is a new setting at the web application level called Browser File Handling (Fig. 1). You get to this setting with these steps:
.Central Admin > Application Management > Manage Web Applications
.Single-click the row of your web application
.Click General Settings in the ribbon
.Scroll down to Browser File Handling and select Permissive

Browser File Handling settings

By default, this is set to Strict when creating a web application. However, this causes issues in many ways related to opening certain files from SharePoint. The most obvious example is with PDFs. When set to Strict, a PDF can only be Saved (downloaded), but in Permissive mode, the PDF can be opened directly. For instance, here are the different results when clicking on a PDF in a SharePoint 2010 Document Library:

Opening a PDF in Strict mode

Opening a PDF in Permissive mode

As you can see, in Strict mode, I am prompted to Save or Cancel In Permissive mode, the PDF immediately opens without being prompted and in my case, my PDFs open in the browser by default (this is a setting you can change).

Another way this issue manifests itself is when opening versions in an InfoPath form library. Someone posted this issue on the forums, and when I didn''t experience the same issue, I immediately thought of Browser File Handling. Mine was alre

Insert image into Infopath form and save to SharePoint as PDF file

I have an InfoPath web-enabled form in MOSS 2007, that is integrated with a K2 blackpoint process for an approval workflow.

Once the form (a Purchase Order request form) has been approved in the K2 workflow process, I switch the form view to a "print-friendly" view for the requestor to view from the browser.  However, now I need to go one step further with this scenario:

1) I need to somehow insert/embed an image with the scanned-in signature of the approver (likely stored in a SP doc library) at the signature line section of my form.  Also, what are the security requirements for storing such images, but not granting all users access to these (e.g. only services accounts that need to access this for embedding into the form, etc.)?

2) Then I need to convert this final "print-friendly" view of the form (with the signature image) to a PDF document so that I can store it in SharePoint (and email it to the requestor using K2's email event capabilities).

Can anyone help me with a solution to both of these requirement, or point me to some resources for this (even 3rd party components are open-game).

thanks!

Error: Do you want to save this file, or find a program online to open it?

Hi,

I am relatively new to MVC , i am getting the following error when i try to browse to a page in which i have used usercontrol and within the usercontrol i have a simple grid.

Error: Do you want to save this file, or find a program online to open it?

I am returning the data from the controller like this

 var jsonData = new
                {
                    total = 1,
                    page = 1,
                    records = myRequests.Count,
                    rows = new[]{myRequests.ToArray()

Infopath 2010 Browser Based Form Vs Infopath 2010 Filler Based Form Issue

I have created a detailed infopath form that is connecting to multiple sharepoint lists, some of which contain thousands of rows and dozens of columns.  To tailor for the data load i have enabled the form to only pull in data as needed and on some of the lists i have created 5 or 6 data connections to the same list, each only looking at a certain set of data, and as you make your way through the form selecting your options, the data is pulled in. If i preview this form from within Infopath or if i launch it using Infopath filler this works great, the data is pulled through in under a second.  However if i then publish the form to the browser and launch it through the browser, it now takes roughly 30 seconds to pull in the data. My question is therefore this,  Is there something i can do to speed up the way the data is pulled in when launched through the browser?  are there transport protocols i can alter or something like that? maybe config in central admin or infopath config? any help would be gratefully appreciated as if i can not get the form to pull the data in fast through the browser then the whole project is a waste of time as my management team will never go for the solution if it is slow and will get slower as more data is added. thanks

Problem to open infopath form : The file cannot be opened because it is not a valid InfoPath form

Hi i have a winform app which host of infopath forms. form templates and data stores in database and when user want to open/edit an existing infopath form data, it must be extract from database, save on disk and then open it to display it in formControl. my problem is that when i open form data, after it has been extracted on disk, i got this error : InfoPath cannot open the following file: C:\Users\Hamed\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\InfopathFormTest2\InfopathFormTest2\bin\Debug\d00d73e8-cf5c-4b12-b9a6-591c4ade83aa.xml. The processing instruction in the file is missing or invalid. here is my code : this._fullPath = System.IO.Path.Combine(Application.StartupPath, this._dataRow.FormID.ToString() + ".xml"); this._templatePath = System.IO.Path.Combine(Application.StartupPath, this._templateRow.TemplateID.ToString() + ".xsn");if (HelperClass.ExtractToDisc(_fullPath, ASCIIEncoding.Unicode.GetBytes(this._dataRow.FormContent))) { this.formControl1.Open(_fullPath); this.txtFormName.Text = this._dataRow.FormName; } where is my problem and how to solve this ? thanks in advancehttp://www.codeproject.com/KB/codegen/DatabaseHelper.aspx

MOSS 2010 Issue with Target Audience

Hi there, We've managed to migrate  MOSS 2007 to MOSS 2010 for one of our customer. Everything went well except Target Audience. Sharepoint2010 does not seem to recognise the AD groups and no matter how many times I reset them, I see the error of "No exact match found". Here is the scenario : Application pool user has necessary rights as MOSS able to find AD groups. However, once MOSS locates AD groups and after we assign relevant AD group to a particular web part, save the web part and if I happen to edit the web part then we found ""No exact match found" in the Target Audience. One more thing, this behaviour is happening only for HOME page. For this reason, we tried to recreate the entire webpage, but the issue ""No exact match found" still remains.   Kindly advice. Thanks

Sharepoint 2010: Browser compatible infopath forms are not open in web browser for editing

I created a browser enabled form with InfoPath 2010. I then published the form by selecting the option "Publish form to a SharePoint library" and then selected "Form library" and finally selected "Create a new form library". As a result, a new form library was created.When I click on "add document", the browser opens a new form, which I can fill and save successfully. However, after the form is saved, whenever I click on the form name in the form library to edit it, the browser "opens with" dialog box opens, asking for an XML editor software. In other words, the form does not open in browser for editing even on systems that do not have InfoPath installed.

The form is browser compatible and the form library is configured to open browser-enabled forms in browser. The issue is that the form hyperlink is directly pointing to form XML file rather than pointing to InfoPath form services URL.

I would really appreciate, if someone tells me how I can edit the form in browser.

By pass the prompt - Do you want to open or save this file?

Is there any way that I can avoid or bypass the following prompt: Do you want to open or save this file?

I am using a data view webpart where I have hyper-linked a column with  an infopath file. So when ever I click on the hyperlink, a window prompts with the mentioned text.

Any help in this regard will be appreciated!

Cannot open .XLSX file in Excel 2010 from WSS 3.0 site

Hi

I'm having trouble in opening .xlsx files created using excel 2007. File is on the sharepoint site (WSS 3.0). Since I have installled Office 2010 I am not being able to open this file directly from the browser. However, if I download it on my local PC its seems to open fine.

Excel 2010 shows error "Excel cannot open file "filename" because the file extension or file format is not correct. Verify the file is not corrupted..."

Please can someone suggest what I am missing on my sharepoint site?

Deploy infopath 2010 form template to MOSS (saved as Infopath2007 format)

I saw this post on another site and this happened to me as well.  I am trying to create a web form with controls, chose WebForms for Infopath2007 and changed the code to C# for Infopath 2007 and tried to deploy the form to the Infopath forms solution in Central Admin and was unable to do so.  any suggestions?

I have an interesting issue while deploying a VSTO enabled form today. For

some odd reason while performing stsadm -o verifyformtemplate -filename

foobar.xsn, it returned a "FatalError : The form cannot be converted because

it was designed for a later version of InfoPath Forms Services.".

Has anyone else tried deploying a InfoPath 2010 form with managed code in a

MOSS environment?? I'd hate to go back to InfoPath 2007, I love the new

ribbon. :D
