Office Web Apps Feature Not Present After Install

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

We have an existing SharePoint 2010 farm that has been stood up as a Test tier.  We were asked to add Office Web Apps.  After reviewing the TechNet articles regarding the installation and configuration, when going to activate the feature, whether through the individual sites or using PowerShell, we're noticing that the feature isn't present.  Is there something not in the documentation below that would account for this?  I'm finding this very odd.  Thanks in advance!

Office Web Apps: Disabling the feature and just normally download Office documents?

Apparently it's not a good idea to uninstall Office Web Apps, as it leaves the farm in an inconsistent state. (http://blogs.architectingconnectedsystems.com/blogs/cjg/archive/2010/04/30/Uninstalling-Office-Web-Apps-_2D00_-Be-Careful_2100_.aspx) Is there a way to disable Office Web Apps after it's been installed and activated? I tried disabling the service in the Site Collection Managed features, but when I click on a document it still opens in the Office Web Apps instead of downloading it to my computer.

Office Web Apps - View in Excel not present

I installed on out SharePoint 2010 server Office Web Apps. With some problems I finally could get Word and PowerPoint working. I had an issue where Edit in browser of both formats worked fine, but View did not. I threw an some errors. My event viewer displayed SQL Server error complaining about SPService account does not have permissions to sertain WSS_Content_ database. The viewers started to work after I granted the Account some priviliges.

But now I can't seem to get Excel working in Web Apps. On Excel files I won't have the required actions (Edit in browser and View in browser). I also noted that on Central Administration Manage Service Application -> New doesn't have the Excel Viewing Service possibility.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Install Office Web Apps on SharePoint

I am working on installing of the Office Web Apps on my SharePoint server (enterprise version). I'm confused about the install media. I've been told by our Microsoft partner that it is part of the Office 2010 Standard install. Because we have Office 2010 Proffesional thorugh our Volume Licensing, I tried installing OWA using it. There doesn't appear to be any option to just install the OWA and installing the full office suite did not install OWA as far as I can tell.

So, the question is: does OWA really only come with Office Standard or do I need to get seperate installation media?

Office 2010 Web Applications Install Error

We have a SharePoint 2010 Server setup in a farm configuration with a SQL 2008R2 clustered back-end that we are attempting to install Office Web Applications on.  We are following the technet article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff431687.aspx#bkmk_ins_exis_farm.  When we attempt to install the Office Web Applications on the SharePoint 2010 server (logged in as a member of the Administrators/farm admins) the progress bar completes and then displays the error "Microsoft Office Web Apps encountered an error during setup".  Looking through the Wac Server Setup.log file that setup generates doesn't yield much or any clues as to what is failing (it's lengthy and appears to just be detailing applications of a variety of languages installing and then rolling back).  The event logs are also filled with messages about the various Web Apps installing in a variety of languages and then rolling back when setup fails.  The only MsiInstaller event in the event logs that looks of any consequence is: "Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Microsoft Office Web Apps Application Server Components. Product Version: 14.0.4763.1000. Product Language: 0. Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation. Installation success or error status: 1603." Does anyone have any experience with this issue or any suggestions/guidance?

When attempting to install "Security Update Microsoft for the Microsoft 2007 Office system updates (updates KB2277947 and KB982331)" the sintallation fails and then I recieve the error "The detection failed, this can be due to a corrupted installation database". System Info: XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3 Intel Atom CPU N270 @ 1.60 GHz I am running XP and have installed and run the "Fit It" tool, to no avail. I even tried downloading each update individually, from the Microsoft site, instead of through the automatic update. I also read this same question posted by another user (link: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/cfa66cd3-2aa2-44ee-9393-ffae41d4f70c/) only to find his info contained no answer either. How do I fix this so that I can get these updates installed?
