Problem making Role based Menu in MVC application

I want to make Rolebase menu in MVC such that if user doesnot have permission for some action then that Action name shouldnot be shown in the Menu.

I have used the code in the url(http://forums.asp.net/t/1566328.aspx) in my MVC application. My application is a Discussion Forum(in MVC) same functionality as in this forum forums.asp.net

I have used Controllers for post, thread etc.In each controller there are some actions that are using [Authorize(Roles)] attribute

but this coding does not count  those Actions in Controllers having Authorize attribute according to the url http://forums.asp.net/t/1566328.aspx

In the code, Authorize attribute is applied to Controller class, but my requirement is of Applying Authorize attribute to some actions in controller so that some are available for all users and  some links are available rolewise. Now what is the solution for that?

Windows Forms: Give Your .NET-based Application a Fast and Responsive UI with Multiple Threads

If your application performs any non-UI processing on the thread that controls the user interface, it may make the app seem slow and sluggish, frustrating users. But writing multithreaded apps for Windows has long been restricted to C++ developers. Now with the .NET Framework, you can take advantage of multiple threads in C# to control the flow of instructions in your programs and isolate the UI thread for a fast and snappy user interface. This article shows you how. Also, it discusses the pitfalls of multiple threads and presents a framework for safe concurrent thread execution.

Security: Unify the Role-Based Security Models for Enterprise and Application Domains with .NET

Role-based security allows administrators to assign access permissions to users based on the roles they play rather than on their individual identities. These privileges can be used to control access to objects and methods, and are easier to identify and maintain than user-based security. The .NET Framework provides two role-based security models, which are exposed as two namespaces: System.Enterprise-Services and System.Security.Permissions. Presented here is a comparison of the two options and a discussion of when each is the right choice. The author also demonstrates the process involved in setting up access security and discusses role memberships.

Forms Based Authentication on Extranet Application

I have a web application that is using classic authentication. I have extended it to my extranet so I can use https from the outside. All of this works, except I would like to have the extranet users not have to type domain\username. I am guessing I need to use claims based authentication with forms. It seems the only way to do this, would be to go back in time, and tell my original application to use claims based instead of windows. Is there a way I could have just my extended site use forms? I would really like to keep my extranet users out of active directory, as they are not part of my company.

deployment of .Net framework based application

I want to make setup of .net framework based application in which following components must be included within setup file.

- .Net framework 2.0

- Windows Installer 3.1

- MDAC 2.8

I don't want to provide the link and let user manually download it and install it.

Setup should check whether this components are installed or not.

I tried Inno Setup maker but it requires internet to download .net framework then it installs.

My application is for india and internet is not widely spread in india till now.

Parameter error in the web based application

Hello Everyone,

I am working on a web based application wherein I have a created 2 dropdown lists for the user to select. If the user does not select any value from any or both of the dropdown lists, they should see a message- 'Please a select a value for trade code' or 'Please a select a value for direction'. Instead I am getting this development error:

'Procedure or function 'usp_AdminPageCustomerGroupingSearch' expects parameter '@tradecode', which was not supplied.'

As I am still novice to asp.net or C#, I am unable to find the correct code to catch this error and display the relevant message to the user. Could someone please help me with this ? The following is the slice of the C# code which is related to the dropdown list:

Is SharePoint and Access 2010 the right platform for subscription based web application?

I posted a similar question in the Access Form and the MVP's there suggested I post a follow up here, to clarify the SharePoint issue.

My Question: is SharePoint and Access 2010 a good platform, or can it do what I need?

The Scenario:

I currently have a client/server app built in Access 2002 with many clients in a single industry. My clients are very mobile and would like to be able to do their work in the app anywhere, not just while connected to the office network. Likewise, a large percentage in that industry have Macs (I've used Windows in Parallels or Fusion for these clients but it's not a smooth process, in a lot of 'connectivity' ways). My clients are asking, and my competition already has, web based applications. I very much need to get my app on the web. Along with that, I need to set it up as a monthly subscription based application.

So I'm hoping Access and SharePoint can do this. I don't know ASP or PHP or SQL so it'd be a steep learning curve if I have to go that route. I don't know much about SharePoint but have watched videos about using it for Access Web databases as well as RichClient/SharePoint Lists.

It's possible I could have over 1000 clients, each of which will have a few thousand records in the main few tables (SP Lists). Each client could also have several users l

Accessing SharePoint 2010 with WinRM on Claims-based web application

I am trying to connect to sharepoint remotely using powershell. Things work okay when connecting to a windows authentication web application. But when i try connecting to a claims based web application, i get access denied messages. I seem to get access to the SPWeb, but when i try to access properties on the web, it errors. I think CredSSP is setup correctly (as the windows web application works). The username i am using is in the format domain\username, not sure if the claims based format needs something different i:0#.w|domain\username

$password = ""
$ip = "192."
$siteurl = "http://"

Getting User related issues when Upgrading Classic based 2010 web application to claim based 2010 we

I have upgraded Classic based to claim based . I used these Power-Shell scripts :

$w = Get-SPWebApplication " http://<server>/ "

$w.UseClaimsAuthentication = 1

It upgraded fine. But I am getting a problem when users are trying to log in, they are not able to log in to sharepoint. When I remove existing user and add the same user again then that user can log in.

One thing I also noticed that If User "ABC" is already in Share Point and If I add same user again then it shows both users. But there is only one user.

I am using Share Point 2010 RTM.

What is wrong with my share point 2010?

Can you please help me ?

Dynamic compilation for ASP.NET Application (Building a "module based" CMS)

I have asked a simulair question before..but this time its still rather different...atleast i think so..

I will try to state an example..

What if I have built a CMS for instance..and this CMS is "module based" like Drupal, which means that you can download packages, also known as modules, and simply put them in a speicall folder and then the module is installed...

the problem with this in ASP.NET is as far as I know that it whould require the application to get recompiled...

One way od doign this is to simply download then whole page, open it up and visual studio and add the module/package, and then recompile the project..but is there anyway to recompile the project directly on the server?

To put this even more generall...how whould you guys create a module based system that doesnt require the user to download it the whole page to a local machine and then add the module and then recompile it and then put it back up on the server?..any suggestions?

And yeah I know...or well, atleast as I know...this sort of things aint ASP.NETs strength..but still throwing it out there to see if someone has solved it :)

Thanks in advance!

Extending Web Application using Claims Based Authentication

Hello SharePoint saviors, I'm trying to extend a web application that uses claims based authentication to utilize FBA.  I'm following this TechNet article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee806890.aspx which seems fairly straight forward, the only difference being that it seems to be geared towards a new web application whereas I'm extending an existing web app (is this the problem?). However, after following the instructions my web application fails...both the default web application and the extended web application.

My application uses a default zone with Windows Authentication using NTLM.  I'm attempting to extend the web app using FBA as an extranet zone which will use LDAP for authentication.  I suspect I'm missing a key element to the web.config file for SecurityTokenServiceApplication.  Here's the modified section of web.config for SecurityTokenServiceApplication with the actual server name replaced.  I know there is a problem with this particular service because the health and monitor analyzer tells me the service is unavailable in central administration.   Help!
