Implementing webservices on an e-commerce website, how ?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I worked on an online store based . In this store i have a category for which there are almost 2000 products. So every time when there is some change in the price, it is very difficult to update the products with new price, descriptions, features etc.

The manufacturer of this product is providing web services which can be linked with store owner's website who is selling their products.

So is it possible to integrate e-commerce website with webservices API that are being provided by manufacturer ? , i know the answer is yes but..

One more concern is that, how web services will connect to specific category only ? i mean on this website there are many other products also, but i want to integrate webservices for this 1 category only, is it possible ? if yes, then how ?

Right now the database mapping follows the normal process, web admin / store owner adds products in the database from the admin section and that's how products are being displayed on the website.

I would really appreciate if you could guide me in a right direction...

Error Message Implementing AdminCategories.aspx - book Beginning ASP.NET E-Commerce in C #

I'm following the book "Beginning ASP.NET E-Commerce in C #, and I can not move because I get an error.

I'm trying to work some days and I can not solve.

I'm on page 325, "Implementing AdminCategories.aspx" in GridView.

When I debug,
appears a error message.

Procedure or function 'CatalogGetCategoriesInDepartment' expects parameter '@ DepartmentID' Which was not supplied.

Detalhes da Exceção: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Procedure or function 'CatalogGetCategoriesInDepartment' expects parameter '@DepartmentID', which was not supplied.

I've already made that part several times, I always get the same error.

I have this.

    //retrieve the list of categories in a department
    public static DataTable GetCategoriesInDepartment(string departmentId)
        //Get a configured DbCommand object
        DbCommand comm = GenericDataAccess.CreateCommand();
        //Set the stored procedure name

SBS 2008 Premium Edition - Securing SQL Server while allowing access from e-commerce website.

Reposted from SBS forum:

I'm currently planning an SBS 2008 Premium Edition installation for a client currently running a five old Win NT / Server 2003  machines to serve a small company (fewer than 50 people).  A complicating factor is that one of their e-commerce websites is currently served directly from their production SQL server - a security risk made necessary by the limitations of their e-commerce software.  In the SBS 2008 plan I would like to protect the production SQL server from the Internet.  My question - is there a way of replicating the production SQL database in real time on a second SQL server outside the firewall?  If not, what other options are available?

I'm not an SQL specialist so I'd also be grateful for links to useful web resources on the topic.

Thanks in advance.

Integrating product based e-commerce website with webservice API ?

I developed an e-commerce product based website on which i developed all the features like for products, shopping cart etc.

Till now it works in a standard way, in which from admin section, store owner adds product categories, and products with prices etc.

Now there is a kind of product category which is empty right now (no products in this category right now) -There will be 1000s of products in this category in future.

and the manufacturer of this particular product(s) are providing web services API, so it is possible to add web services API to this e-commerce website to that for that particular category, website gets all the information from the manufacturer's website along with all the product information and prices etc. ?

How to accopmlish this  ? as i don't have any experience with implementing web services on any website ?

Implementing Continuous Scrolling UI Pattern in ASP.NET

When you have numerous records to show, we have to resort to Paging. There is a better alternative to display voluminous data (especially read only data) while providing a better user experience & also making efficient use of server bandwidth - the Continuous Scrolling or Infinite Scrolling UI Pattern. Read on to know more about how to implement Continuous Scrolling UI Pattern in ASP.NET with a GridView.

Resources for soup-to-nuts of website development lifecycle

 I'm looking for a website, or book, or some resource that can lead me down the path from website design to implementation/deployment. I know that covers a ton of material, but I am really looking for the bullet points, or high-lights, to make sure that I think of everything. I am mostly fuzzy on security measures and deployment since I haven't been involved in those aspects before.

Background:  I have been a programmer for many years, and with a little over 3 years' experience coding websites in vb.net/asp.net with sql server. Due to recent restructuring/layoffs at our firm, I find myself in the position of lead IT person - I'm feeling a bit underqualified but I feel this is my chance to work hard and step up to it. I'm very good at vb.net, master pages, css, asp.net, sql server. I'm worried that the person who was the lead before was doing a bunch of stuff that I'm not aware of...so I need to start learning more than just the code. I don't need lessons on how to code anything...I need to learn how it all gets put together - the next step up.

thanks for any suggestions!

Why isn't my Views/Home/Home.Master file published when I publish my website?

Hi All,

I spent the better part of today hunting down an elusive error.  I was getting a message saying that it couldn't find the Index view for the Home controller, and it gave a list of locations it searched, e.g., ~/Views/Home/Index.aspx.  This was really confusing as the file definitely existing and was at ~/Views/Home/Index.aspx, the first place in the list of locations it searched for the view!

What I eventually discovered was that there was a file that did not get published when I used Visual Studio's "Publish" feature (this is on the "Build" menu).  That file was Views/Home/Home.master, and (as you can probably guess) is the master file used by Views/Home/Index.aspx.

Once I copied that file into place manually, it started working.  But I am left wondering--why???  Why does this file not get published?  It's a part of my project, I can see it in the solution explorer, and it's obviously a critical file that's necessary for the MVC app to run.  It has the same permissions as every other file in my project.  So why wouldn't it get copied?  And how can I fix it so it does get copied?

Thanks for any suggestions on this!

VS2010 Professional .NET 4.0 Remote Debugging ASP Website Project

Trying to remote debug ASP website from VS2010 Pro to Windows Server 2003 machine.  Specifically, trying to debug a Web Service, but breakpoint says, "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document."  This happens for all compiled code though.  I have read this is due to missing PDB files and the work around is to manually copy them, as noted here.  Problem is, I cannot find any PDB files for my project, except referenced libraries, which I can remote debug.

  • web.config has <compilation debug="true">
  • Debugger is attached to wewp.exe process on remote server
  • Installed VS2010 remote debugger from DVD (as I can remote debug referenced libraries)

This is beyond frustrating.  I migrated my code from VS2008 .Net3.5 to VS2010 .Net4.0 to take advantage of the inherent multithreading framework.  Debugging works when using local host and was stable until deployment to test server.

Thanks in advance,

Creating a user friendly alias for the website path

 Hello mates,

I am hosting my ASP.NET application on a Windows 2003 Server.

To browse to my application one has to type the path :http://serverName/applicationName

I want users to only type  applicationName on the web adress area.I believe there is something to do with alias and CNAME on DNS records that can adress this.

Any help on how to go about doing this will be highly appreciated.

Please can someone point me in the right direction as to how i can get the ball rolling on this?

Troubleshooting Webservices

Hello All,

I have been working on web services for quite sometime. Have been creating and consuming simple to intermediate levels of web services. But now i want to start using some third party web services.

I have got to know that there are good ways to troubleshoot issues in our own web services or any third party web services. For example, if a particular web method was working since 3 months and all of a sudden, it stopped working as expected or its not giving the results now. In these kind of situations, what are the best approaches to troubleshoot the issue.

Can someone please share some points on this? May be some right articles having some examples will give me the clear picture. Please let me know. Thanks.
