HttpCookie objCookie = new

Installing multiple instances of SQL Server R2 creates permissions issues - first instance won't st

After installing two named instances of SQL Server 2008 R2 DataCenter edition (R2D2 and C3P0) I found the first instance would no longer start.  The errorlog showed the reason to be an invalid path. 2010-09-14 18:15:39.12 Server      Error: 17113, Severity: 16, State: 1. 2010-09-14 18:15:39.12 Server      Error 3(The system cannot find the path specified.) occurred while opening file 'C:\MSSQL\SQLDAT\MSSQL10_50.R2D2\MSSQL\DATA\master.mdf' to obtain configuration information at startup. An invalid startup option might have caused the error. Verify your startup options, and correct or remove them if necessary. Finding the files in the proper location I check the ACLs and found the Local Group created for the second instance on the ACL for the first instance.  That is to say for instance R2D2 I found MSP-JANHONJ7\SQLServerMSSQLUser$MSP-janhonj7$C3P0 instead of the MSP-JANHONJ7\SQLServerMSSQLUser$MSP-janhonj7$R2D2 that was originally there. How to detect and prevent new browser instance

Hi Folks,

I have a problem w/ a web app which is probably fairly common, but I cannot find any solutions anywhere. Hopefully someone will have an idea.

The web app in question provides a UI for editing a client (in the business sense, not the browser sense), identified by a ClientID.  I store the ClientID in Session, which gets passed from page to page, along with a number of other pieces of data in Session.  Works great.

The problem is that if the user opens a new browser window using Ctrl N or File->New Window (in IE), the new window comes up with the same page as the current page, with the same session info. Then if the user navigates to a different client in the 2nd window, the ClientID in session refers to the new client. If they go back to the original browser window and save, the original client gets saved using the 2nd ClientID, and all hell breaks loose, because now the data from the two jobs are intertwined.

I have enabled trace and verified that the new browser window uses the same SessionID as the original.  If an entirely new instance of IE is opened, it has a different SessionID, so is not a problem.  I have not yet investigated other browsers, such as Chrome or Firefox.

Is there any way to determine if a browser instance is opened for a web app which is already open in

Common session for different browser instance

Hello everyone,

I am working on a website which uses a common database shared by another 2-3 websites.  Now i am having a requirement that whenever a user clicks a link provided on another website and comes to my website and if the user is already logged in to my website then my website should not ask him to login again it should by pass the login page and show the next page.

Here the problem is i am not able to get the session objects in newly opened browser window even if the user is already logged in to my website in another browser window. I am not sure but i thing IE uses two different processes for two different browser instance and because of that i am not getting the session objects required.

Deos anyone have some idea on my problem.

Note: I can not ask the another website vendor to pass anything as a querystring.

Multiple databases on same instance - performance hit?

Hi I am not a SQL person to please excuse me if my terminology is wrong :) We are running SQL 2005 at the moment on Windows 2003 SP2 servers. We have multiple SQL servers spread around in each of our data centres. We have an application we're going to be bringing in that needs it's own SQL database. We need to decide whether we build a dedicated SQL server for this or just create a new database on an exisiting SQL instance. The advantages of the former are that we don't max out any existing servers and affect the performance of other databases, whereas with the latter we save the cost of having to build a new server. For those of you that use SQL heavily, what's the general way of doing things? I know that SQL is memory, disk intensive etc so not sure.

How to use single windows service to host multiple WCF Services instances (Each instance of WCF is i

How to use single windows service to host multiple WCF Services. I have a mutiple instance of same WCF service in different folder, each instance has unique service name and port. WCFService has reference to Reg-Free COM Reference, i have Native.WCFService.manifest in each folder. Ex: WCFService1 is in "C:\WCFService01\WCFService.dll, Native.OCWCFService.manifest, OCWCFService.dll.config WCFService2 is in "C:\WCFService02\WCFService.dll, Native.OCWCFService.manifest, OCWCFService.dll.config Now i need host above services from single Windows Service. I am trying to create AppDomain for each above WCFService Instance from Windows Service and then host. Its working if i register COM dll in the server using regsvr32, but when i un register COM dll, i am getting unable to load COM component .... This looks like AppDomain is not loading COM DLL and Manifest files. Its looks strange but we need it in this way because we have production and test environment in the same server. Everything works fine if create a seperate Windows Service for each WCFService Instance, but my manager wants single Windows Service :). Any help whould be really appreciated.  ravi kumar reddy

Rebooting one Instance on a SQL 2008 Server with multiple instances installed

Hello, Hoping someone can answer the following questions ... If I have SQL Server 2008 with multiple Named Instances configured on it, can I reboot one Named Instance without rebooting any of the other Named Instances, or without having to reboot the entire server ? For example, if I have an application that needs to be re-booted and it requires the Database to be re-booted. Regards, JD

Multiple issues with dropdown list controls not working correctly

I am using WSS 3.0 and SharePoint Designer.  I have modified one of the items in my NewForm page so that I have a filtered lookup using a spdatasource. The filter works great, but my issue is that I can't seem to save the users selection back to the list itself.

Issue when using an ASP.NET dropdown list
I am able to bind the filtered spdatasource to an ASP.NET dropdown list control, however the item that is selected in the dropdown list is not being saved back to the list.  I am guessing that this is because the dropdown list itself is not tied directly to the appropriate list item, but... I can't seem to figure out how or where to do this.  I don't see anything in the data properties box in SharePoint Designer that allows me to tie the data back to the list itself.  Maybe I am just overlooking it somewhere?

Issue when using the native SharePoint Data View DropDownList with a filtered spdatasource
When I select "Data Fields..." on the dropdown control I get the Change Data Bindings dialog box.  From here I can select a data field to save the value back to (which resolves the issue noted for the asp.net control) and I can select my spdatasource, but... the display text and value fields below that never populate.  Thus, the dropdown list is empty when the user is filling ou

Firefox Version Wrong with Request.Browser.Version

I'm try to get my site to detect what browser someone is using to ensure they're using one that is compliant with our site. Everything works, except Firefox seems to post the wrong version in the Request.Browser variables.

I'm on Firefox 3.6.10, but Request.Browser shows Mozilla It's correct in the HTTP_USER_AGENT string:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv: Gecko/20100914 YFF35 Firefox/3.6.10 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729)

Is there a way to detect it better without having to parse through the HTTP_USER_AGENT string?

How would you handle this? Multiple instance of a custom class...

Is it possible to preserve viewstate when the user opens multiple browser tabs?

I want my users to be able to open multiple browser tabs and be able to switch back and forth between them.  If Viewstate is saved for each page, I should be able to do this right?

is session shared within multiple browser windows (not tab)

Hi guys,

Really confused on this... let me explain the scenario.

i have a application on .net 2.0 .

once user is logged in, various session variables are stored for that users profile information (normal stuff). when user open a browser window and after doing some operation, closes the browser window directly.

and then reopen new window and try to access homepage of same application... he is presented with profile of the user which was logged in before (and widnow was shut down)

is this behaviour normal and common across all IE versions?

this behaviour is not consistent.... sometimes, its showing homepage of old user and sometimes its  showing login page (as if session is invalidated)

is there any way to abandon all session if browser window is closed (apart from capturing browser window close event)

hope i get some replies on this...

Membership.GetUser() using FireFox browser

I am finishing up my asp.net web application targeting .net 4.0. I am using VS2010.

I have deployed my application to a host server and now I am testing with multiple different browsers.

The first issue I ran into comes down to the following code:

            MembershipUser currentUser = Membership.GetUser();
            if (currentUser != null)

If I use IE, login and click something that causes the above code to execute then currentUser is NOT null. However doing the exact same steps in FireFox currentUser is null, even though I know I am logged in as my name and other indications on the webpage confirms I am.

Anyone have any ideas why this would be?

Since originally posting this thread I have done more testing.

I placed a test button on a random page and the button click will update a label on that page indicating if the currentUser is null or not. This button works both in IE and in FireFox. Also both running locally and running on the host server.

So now I am looking at what is different about the one place it appears not to work so let me try to make this clear.

I use a component called Uploadify to upload images into a database. That componen

session variable and multiple web application instance

I have a web application using window authentication. There are a search page and a edit page in the application.

In search page, user can enter some search criterias in the textboxes and the search result will be displayed in the gridview by clicking the "Search" button. User can select any row from the gridview and it will take him to the edit page.

In the edit page, there is a "Back" button to take the user back to the search page. I use session variables to remember what the search criterias the user entered in the textboxes and what page number the user was in the gridview. So when the user goes back to the search page, the textboxes are pre-populated with the search criterias and the gridview is displayed in the correct page number.

The problem is:

If user1 opened one browser window and did a search using search criterias1, then user1 opened a 2nd browser window and did a search using search criterias2. When the user1 went back to the search page from the edit page using the first browser window, all the textboxes and page numbers are from the 2nd browser window, instead of the 1st one.

Can anyone explain this problem to me and how to prevent it? It will be helpful too if you can give me some links about the similar problem.
