Triggering an event to occur within a VB.NET app if something is inserted into an SQL Server table

Let's say SQL Server is inserting arow within a table. Is there a way to let VB.NET know that an event was fired (being the inserting of the row within the table), without the need to query anything. Bascially having SQL Server tell the VB.NET app that an event was fired. It seems like it might be possible using CLR and the .NET framework integration wthin SQL Server, but I haven't found a sample program showing what I'm attempting. I understand that this topic covers SQL Server and VB.NET.  This need being for both and this forum only set for SQL Server, I thought I'd take the risk and post in this forum. Thank you in advance for any assistance.Newbie

Display Inserted Record After Insert Using A FormView

How do I display a record in a FormView once the record has been inserted? I'm able to get the Identity of the new record without anyproblems, but I can't figure out how I should code the _ItemCreated event. Protected Sub FormViewMessageDetail_ItemInserted(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.FormViewInsertedEventArgs) 'Refresh the list to show the new record RepeaterMessages.DataBind() 'Set the .SelectCommand to Select the New Record SqlDataSourceMessageDetail.SelectCommand = "SELECT * FROM Messages WHERE [Id] = " & NewId FormViewMessage.DataBind() FormViewMessage.ChangeMode(FormViewMode.Edit) test.Text = NewId.ToString End Sub Protected Sub SQLDataSourceMessageDetail_Inserted(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.SqlDataSourceStatusEventArgs) NewId = e.Command.Parameters("@NewId").Value End Sub

FormView Command Button not firing Item Command Event

Hi, In my content page, I have a formview for Insert & Edit. In insertitemtempalteI have a command button (btnInsert) to trigger  Item_Command event to insert a new record. The button event never gets triggered. But If I set CausesValidation = "false"it fires. But I want the validation to take place. I tried btnInsert_command and btnInsert_Click events. None of them is fired. Ideally I would like to havethe item_command event fired. I would appreciate any inpyt on how to handle this problem. <FormView>     <InsertItemTemplate>            .....           <div>               <asp:Button id="btnInsert" CommandName="Insert" Text="Insert" runat="server" UseSubmitBehavior="true" />              <asp:Button id="btnCancel" CommandName="Cancel" Text="Insert" runat="server" />           </div>     </InsertItemTemplate></FormView>   Thanks Suresh

FormView doesnt call itemupdating event?

Hello all,

So, to sum is up, I have a FormView:

        <asp:FormView ID="fvSubscriptionEdit" DefaultMode="Edit" runat="server" GridLines="None"
            CssClass="SubEditPanel" OnItemUpdating="fvSubscriptionEdit_ItemUpdating">
                    Abonnement wijzigen</h2>
                <asp:HiddenField runat="server" ID="hfSubscriptionId" Value='<%# Bind("SubscriptionId")%>' />
                <asp:Label runat="server">Type wijzigen</asp:Label>
                <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlTypeEdit" runat="server" SelectedValue='<%# Bind("SubscriptionType")%>'>
                    <asp:ListItem Text="- Kies -" Value="1" />

FormView: Button requires 2 click to fire the event

I have a modal formview with insertitemtemplate.
I have to click the insert button twice to fire the event.

But if I do not insert any values, only one click is required and the validationgroup fires.
But if I enter all valid values, I need to click twice and the event does not fire during the
first click. But I need CausesValidation = false because to required field validators.

How to avoid two clicks to fire the event if the formview is valid

Any input on how to handle this is greatly appreciated.

 protected void FormViewInsertApplication_ItemCommand(object sender, FormViewCommandEventArgs e)
        if (e.CommandName == "InsertApp")
            // Must explicitly cause validation because update button causevalidation is set to false
            if (!Page.IsValid)
             if (!doValidate()) { return; }

<asp:FormView id="FormViewInsertApplication">
       <asp:Button ID="btnInsert" runat="server" Text="Insert" CommandName="InsertApp"

textchange event not working from textbox on formview

Hello guys.  I have a formview which in insertmode is required to assign a value to a textbox from another on textchange event.  I can't get it working.

here's formview code (in bold:  event call:

<asp:FormView ID="fvPrecios" runat="server" AllowPaging="True" DataSourceID="OdsPrecios"
        Style="position: relative" CellPadding="4" ForeColor="#333333"
        DataKeyNames="precnume" >
            <table style="position: relative" width="400">
                    <td style="width: 62px; height: 26px">
                        <asp:Label ID="lblEditNombre" runat="server" Text

Multiple commands on the codebehind after button_click event to insert and read inserted.

I want to be able to show the record that was just inserted after add_button_click event. I run the insert from mycommand and then set mycommand2 to run the read to populate a details view.

I have a feeling I am going about this the wrong way.

The insert fires correctly but the details view does not populate.

 Dim connectionString As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("ApplicationServices").ConnectionString

Radio Button Event

Here I have explained the events of radio button with javascript.
Let me explain the scenarion first,
We are having two radio button say radioobtn1 and radiobtn2. If I click on the button 1 then I need to show one DIVor FORM. same as when I click on radiobtn 2. I have given the code for the above scenarion.

how to impose javascript event processing?

If I have some form control like textbox and I want the event handler to be located in the html instead of at the server side, how to do that? Of course I can copy paste javascript code in the aspx file. But is it possible to do that using some object oriented approach (ie programmatically in the code behind)?

Formview LinqData source not allowing updates

OK, I'm confused.  I've set up a formview with a Linqdata source to allow users to edit records.  When I run it, edit data and submit, it blows up and tells me "Linq datasource6  does not support the Select property when the Delete, Insert or Update operations are enabled."  I googled that warning and saw a couple of posts on this forum saying the problem is the slect statement has to be removed from the Linq data source for it to allow updates.

But if I remove the select statement then how do I show the user specific info on pageload?   plus I thought the two way databind was an advantge of the datasource control.

Dropdown Event (Template Field)

I have grid view control that includes a dropdown control in a template field.

I wish to execute some code when the value is changed in the dropdown list.  Can't figure out how to capture this event though?

Any suggestions?

Pass ASP.NET membership identity object across domain?

I am trying to figure a way to SSO with ASP.NET membership and role model.

I can implement custom membership provider which consume web services hosting on a server.

With encryption of data. No problem.

But my question is, If I sign on a website with my provider, got my identity object on that application,

could I pass it to another website on another domain which use the same provider and by doing so, do not need to login again?

If this is possible, I am going to implement this solution. Please tell me what's your take on this.

Event ID 1011 - DefaultAppPool World Wid Web Pub. Serv. fatal communication error

We have a Windows 2003 server running IIS6 1.1 Framework. We have also installed a DNS and Active Directory in the same machine.

We're randomly getting the error you can see below. Sometimes it causes the recycling of process w3wp.exe (which on my understanding represents the application pool worker processd) and other times results on this process hanging and not responding to any request. To do iisrest temporarly solves the problem.

We were pointed to a possible permissions problem between the user we were runnig the DefaultAppPool with and registry entries used by the iis. We noticed the default predifined user we used, Network Service, wasn't found in the Active Directory, so we changed it by the default configurable user, IWAM_MACHINE_NAME, which is under the IIS_WPG Active Directory Grupo, which, in theory has the correct permissions to run the application pool.

Well, none of this worked and we are still getting this error.

This is driving us crazy and think the problem might have to do with having the Domain Controller/Active Directory and the IIS6 running on the same machine. We'll try now uninstalling this DC pointing to another one to see what happens.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

how to get id value from the row inserted in a table with thr trigger.

I have a reports table with column report id and and report version. I created a trigger on this table to execute an application to do some processing each time a row is inserted in reports table. I need to pass the new report id execute this application from the trigger. How do I get the report id from the row that was inserted?

FormView -- Parameters and asp:Table

I've already solved this problem to my satisfaction, I just want to know WHY it works this way.

I have a FormView control bound to an ObjectDataSource.  Let's say our data source is a hypothetical table with three columns:  id, name, age.  Why is it that when I use the <asp:Table> element inside of the FormView, the parameter values are not set, but when I use the standard <table> tag, it works fine?

This seems like a .NET problem to me.  I expect the <asp:Table> element to work in the same way as <table> because they are, for all intents and purposes, the same thing.  Am I missing something?
