I have some questions regarding installation of SQL Server 2005 Express. My problem is that MSXML6 won't install on some of our corporate machines. I've found these threads in the subject:

Dear Colleagues,

We deliver C++ med. application with several prerequisites, including SQL Express 2005 SP3. All installations are flawless but!

The problematic installation is on German\French systems (this far it was Windows 7 32-bit, but I would expect it to fail on all flavors of supported Windows, including 64-bit, Vista etc).

SQL Server Express 2005 Installation Fails when No Instances of Express Qualify

Windows update wants to install KB 2463332 for SQL Server Express 2005, however I have no instances of Express 2005 that qualify for the update. Please see summary of installation that follows.  I have manually installed KB 2463332 for the SQL Server 2005 instances and the update finished successfully - all instances of SQL Server 2005 have been updated, but KB 2463332 will not update the SQL Server 2005 Express instances. Why do my SQL Server Express instances not qualify? How do I get rid of this annoyance? Is there a registry entry that needs to be modified to keep this from recurring? Why is Windows Update trying to apply an update for a product with no qualifying instances? Can anybody please point me in the right direction.

SQL Server Express 2005 SP3 - installation issues

I'm receiving an error 11055 while trying to install SP3.  I've tracked the problem down to probably being the one described here , but unfortunately cannot follow the steps described there to resolve the problem as the tool they require has apparently been removed because it can damage installations.  Does anyone know another way of fixing this issue?

Error code -2068578304 When Installing Express SP1 x64 as a Part of Visual Studio 2010 Installation

Howdy! I was installing the VS 2010 on my server running Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 and all of a sudden the setup finished with " Setup completed, however, there were failures reported installing optional components. " The final status is success. The left-hand pane of the finish page reads as: The following component failed to install: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express Service Pack 1 (x64).   Leaving alone the fact why setup executed the custom action that tried to install SQL Server Express Edition and Compact Edition when I just asked it to install SQL components (which presumably should be SQL SMO and DMO libraries), I would like to understand what had happed to Express install.   Inspecting the .\Logs\dd_error_vs_vstdcore_100.txt file gives the following record:   [09/16/10,16:06:51] Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express Service Pack 1 (x64): [2] Error code -2068578304 for this component is not recognized. Error while installing SQL Server Express 2005

Hi,

When i try to install SQL Server Express 2005 in my x86 system i get error as below. What could be the reasons for this ?

Thanks

Chak.

SQL Server Setup failed to modify security permissions on file d:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\ for user Chakravarthy. To proceed, verify that the account and domain running SQL Server Setup exist, that the account running SQL Server Setup has administrator privileges, and that  exists on the destination drive.

SQL Server Express 2005 won't install because of fatal error from msxml6, what do I do?

Hey have a computer that I'm trying to install SQL Express 2005.  This system is running Windows XP SP3 and I need SQL Express 2005 inorder to run some proprietary software, it won't read SQL Express 2008 so I have to have the 2005 version.  Every time I try and install SQL Express 2005 it fails on msxml6.  Basically it says that msxml6 is already installed.  When I go and try to uninstall msxml6 I get the message "fatal error installing msxml6".  How can I get past this because I'm not trying to install it I'm attempting to uninstall it?

Installing SQL Server Express 2008 as pre-requisite fails

A customer of mine runs Windows XP SP3 and is trying to install my software which has SQL Express 2008 as a pre-requisite but the install fails every time. The error message is:

"An error occured attempting to install SQl Server 2008 Express Edition"

The setup log file contains:

The following properties have been set:

Property: [AdminUser] = true {boolean}

Property: [ProcessorArchitecture] = Intel {string}

Property: [VersionNT] = 5.1.3 {version}

sql server 2005 express sp3 installation completes but keeps asking for installation

Greetings

I downloaded the update

This service pack upgrades all Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition instances and components to Service Pack 3 (SP3). If you need additional installation options, you should download this service pack at the Microsoft Download Center. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base article 955706.

The installation completes with no error messages but Automatic Ppdates keeps providing this as an update.

How do I get out of this loop?

Thanks.

Blaine

Installing SQL Express 2005 as a prerequisite

I hope I am in the right place for this.

I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 Express SP3 as a prerequisite in my installer package. The installation goes ahead but when its finished it comes up with Warning 4154 SQL Server 2005 Express SP3 prerequisites was not correctly installed.

When I continue from this the install completes and my database is created correctly, howvever, when I try to connect to it either on the local machine or from my remote client I get the error cannot connect to the SQL Server, server not found or not accessible error 40

I am using the following command line

/qb ADDLOCAL=ALL INSTANCENAME=MYNAME ADDCURRENTUSERASSQLADMIN=1 SQLAUTOSTART=1 SQLBROWSERAUTOSTART=1

SQL Server Express 2005 - Installation Failure (1308)

Greetings gurus,

I've installed SQL Server Express 2005 on several computers successfully, but on two completely dissimilar computers it fails with the same error message. One is running Win2k + SP4; the other is WinXP + SP2. In both cases, the user has full Administrator rights.

The message occurs while installing the "SQL Server Database Services" component. It is (deep breath):

"Source file not found: d:\sql server\Setup\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Binn\Windows\winsxs\Manifests\x86_Microsoft.VC80.MFC_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.42_x-ww_dec6ddd2.manifest.  Verify that the file exists and that you can access it."

Here's a snippet from the SQL log:

connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly.

I dont have the SQL EXPRESS installed instead I have SQL Standard Edition.

 I have two SQL Server instances installed.

 1- UserLT (this is sql 2000)
2- UserLT\SQL2005 (this is SQL 2005 named instance)

But when i try to add a database to my VS website project I get the following error:

Connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly. please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkId=4925

I went in Tools>Opetions>DataBase tools>Data Connection>Sql Server Instance Name (blank for default)

and changed the "SQLEXPRESS" to "USERLT\SQL2005".

But I still get the same error message. Any ideas how i can resolve this issue?
