Windows Server 2008 Cluster Disk write caching - SQL Server 2008

I was told by the windows admin that you cannot disable write caching in windows server 2008 when the drives are clustered. Can someone please tell me how to turn it off. I find it very hard to believe you cannot turn it off. i know on a normal server how to do it, by right clicking the drive, properties, hardware, click on the drive, click properties, uncheck write caching...However, this is disabled on my cluster.

Hot fixes for Windows 2003 SP2 for Installing SQL Server 2008 R2 In Cluster environment

Please some body help me to  find Hot fixes  for Windows 2003 SP2 to install SQL Server 2008 R2 In Cluster environment.

Thanks in Advance

SQL 2008 R2 Cluster unattended setup on Windows Server 2003

All the Docs on setup parameters state that the default for FILESTREAMLEVEL is 0 (filestream disabled) however whether it is defaulted or supplied as 0 the setup fails during installation because KB937444 is not applied to W2K3. Presumably this is because even if the filestream is disabled the software is still installed. But if this is a Pre Requisite why is this not validated at the start??

SQL 2005/2008 on Windows Server 2008 R2 cluster - Service only starts when account is local admin

I have a single node Windows Server 2008 R2 cluster configured with SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition installed as a clustered instance.

I am having an issue where the SQL Server service will only start using TCP/IP when the service account is a member of the local admins group. To get SQL to install I had to add the sql server service account to the local admins group.

I have configured group policy with the permissions required for SQL Server 2008 and this is correctly applied to the node.

Errorlog shows the following...

Error: 26054, Severity: 16, State: 1.
2010-05-05 15:23:41.98 Server      Could not find any IP address that this SQL Server instance depends upon.  Make sure that the cluster service is running, that the dependency relationship between SQL Server and Network Name resources is correct, and that the IP addresses on which this SQL Server instance depends are available.  Error code: 0x5.

2010-05-05 15:23:41.98 Server      Error: 17182, Severity: 16, State: 1.
2010-05-05 15:23:41.98 Server      TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x5, status code 0xa. Reason: Unable to initialize the TCP/IP listener. Access is denied.

2010-05-05 15:23:41.98 Server      Error: 17182, Severity: 16

Can you run an SQL imbalanced cluster on Windows 2008 server??

Side A (Active) 12 Core processor 192GB RAM

Side B (passive) 4 Core processor 32GB RAM

If side A failed over, would side B be able to cope?

Word Automation Issue in Windows Server 2008 Hosting

The problem I am posting here is that I was facing nearly 2 weeks around. Any body comes with this stuff please help.

Word Automation in sample ASP.NET(C#) application.

I am using Microsoft.Office.Inetrop.Word Assembly for automation. Here I am reading a XXX.dot template file and fill the contents with dynamic data.

When i am executing my code in localhost:someportnumber the automation is working fine and I could get expected result and when I am hosting in my inetmgr(Windows XP is my OS) it is also working fine.

But the problem is that when I am hosting in my production server(Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition) I am not able to perform automation and results in the following error.

Data: System.Collections.ListDictionaryInternal
Message: Word has encountered a problem.
Source: Microsoft Word

The code gets failed in the following line:

ApplicationClass wordApp = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.ApplicationClass();

Document wordDoc = wordApp.Documents.Add(ref oTemplate, ref oFalse, ref oMissing, ref oMissing); // Error in this line

I cannot able to proceed further. Can anybody please help me in solving this issue?

Thank you.

No ASPNET User in Windows Server 2008?

I have been looking everywhere online regarding this, but have not found a clear answer.

I have an ASP.Net app running on Windows Server 2008, it's basically a reporting app using Crystal Reports. I have encountered a roadblock in regards to rendering some pages. When I run the app in Visual Studio(on the same 2008 machine) everything works perfectly. Yet when I publish it and run it live the reports will not display correctly, I get a message saying Failed to render page.

I looked this error up in the Crystal Reports website and the fixes they have there refer to giving the windows "aspnet" user full access rights to certain folders on the machine. I would be happy to do this, however there is no aspnet user in Windows Server 2008.

I installed the server and set its role to be Web Server. I also checked all the options regarding ASP.Net and IIS 6 compatibility. Yet there is no ASPNET username anywhere.

Did I set the server up wrong? or do I have to do something within ASP.Net to  create this user and then give it rights?

I had the CSS friendly adapters working great on our old server (windows server 2003 - 32bit) and now we have moved to a 64 bit environment and now I can not get the CSS friendly adapters to work.

Is there another work thru for 64bit environment.

I notice windows server 2008 has a directory  C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64 would I be using the browser file in this directory???

MS Word Component Not Getting Created on Windows 2008 64 bit Web Server Edition When I Try Using ASP

Hi All, This might look like a similar question to a lot of you considering there are a lot of web activity happening in terms of blogs/forums/suggestions that I have seen with reference to changes that one needs to do in COM+ Services to enable their ASP.NET Web Application to be able to create Word Objects & I have actually used them personally & they worked for me on Windows 2003 32 bit/64 bit servers. The issue started some 1 month back when I was told that we are upgrading our server to Windows 2008 Web Server edition 64 bit ‘cause of some real benefits it offers if used only as a web server. This was just great as we tested a lot of features /functionality that we were using on our existing server & everything seems to be working just fine on this product by Microsoft. However we also have one web module which is responsible for opening up a MS Word 2007 template file at runtime and fill it with data & is then converted into a PDF document. A lot of ideas on Web suggested that we should move onto Open XML standards to generate documents at runtime, which I have been able to do with no issues. But one activity which still requires me to create a Word document is when I have to convert/SaveAs the Word (docx) document into PDF. I tried all the COM+ & registry related changes that I did on my Windows 2003 64 bit server, but nothing seems

Remote access to SQL-Server 2008 R2 on Windows Server 2008 denied

Hello, after successful installation of SQLServer 2008 R2 and providing my account as a 'sysadmin' I failed to access the server from a management studio of a SQL-Server 2005 release installation. The TCP/IP access is enabled and the server is configured to allow access from remote connections.  The error message reads a follows: ' A network-related or instance-specific error occured while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify ... (Provider: Named Pipes Provider, error 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)(Microsoft SQL Server, Error:2)' Accessing the SQL-Server by the management studio from the local host works fine but trying to acces by command line using the '-E' parameter fails. Is there any additional configuration on the operation system level needed to open a SQL-Server 2008 instance to be selected by other members of  domain groups from the non-local host? Thank you for the answer

SQL Server 2008 Setup requires .NET Framework 3.5 to be installed.   My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits, so already has de .NET Framework 3.5, I turned on/off a lot of times and the same error occurs! I download the .NET Framework 3.5 and .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 from the links: (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325fd-ae52-4e35-b531-508d977d32a6&displaylang=en http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=AB99342F-5D1A-413D-8319-81DA479AB0D7&displaylang=en) But, when installing the Framework 3.5 or the SP1, I get the message: "Use turn on or off disable features in Windows control panel".   Someone can help me?! - Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits - SQL Server 2008 Developer (x86, x64, ia64).   Thanks!
