SQL 2008 Integrity Check Mintenance Plan Errors

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 26, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I have setup a maintenance plan that does an integrity check on selected databases, when the job runs it errors with the following error:

Executed as user: {Server name\username}. Microsoft (R) SQL Server Execute Package Utility  Version 10.0.1600.22 for 32-bit  Copyright (C) Microsoft Corp 1984-2005. All rights reserved.    Started:  09:04:10  Progress: 2010-10-26 09:04:16.57     Source: {202B6BA7-A187-4C97-9CF9-E7614391EF2C}      Executing query "DECLARE @Guid UNIQUEIDENTIFIER      EXECUTE msdb..sp...".: 100% complete  End Progress  DTExec: The package execution returned DTSER_FAILURE (1).  Started:  09:04:10  Finished: 09:04:19  Elapsed:  8.609 seconds.  The package execution failed.  The step failed.

I have taken the t-sql from the job and put it in another maintenance task, this runs with no problem.

All other jobs run fine on the server and this doesent happen to any other server in the company, all sql servers are configured the same and are of the same patching level.

What should i look at next to fix this problem.

Many thanks in advance.

Cannot create maintenance plan in SQL 2008 SP1

I receive the following error trying to create a maintenance plan in SQL 2008 SP1 on a Windows 2008/R2 server: The action you attempted to perform on a remote instance of SQL Server has failed because the action requires a SQL Server component that is not installed on the remote computer. To proceed, install Microsoft SQL Server Management Tools on the remote computer, and then try again. The components that installed are Database Engine Services, Reporting Services, Client Tools Connectivity, Management Tools Basic/Complete, and SQL Client Connectivity SDK.  I have another independent SQL 2008 SP1 server running on the same platform with the same features installed and I have no problem creating maintenance plans there.  However, it does have IIS as it was upgraded from a SQL 2005 server which required IIS for reporting services while SQL 2008 does not. I'm familiar with http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqltools/thread/06c80a78-a877-4a48-a032-b0aef78a598c but that doesn't seem to apply as this was a new SQL 2008 installation on a freshly installed OS.  I've seen several other postings of this on the web but they all appear specific to SQL 2005. What else could be missing? Thanks.

SQL 2008 R2 installation errors

Hi All I am installing MS SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition on my Windows 7 box, and get the following errors: The following error has occurred: Updating permission setting for folder 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\' failed. The folder permission setting were supposed to be set to 'D:(A;OICI;FA;;;BA)(A;OICI;FA;;;SY)(A;OICI;FA;;;CO)(A;OICI;0x1200a9;;;BU)'. Click 'Retry' to retry the failed action, or click 'Cancel' to cancel this action and continue setup. How shall I solve this problem? Thanks

SQL 2008 Maintenance Plan configuration help

A client has purchased a software package that runs on SQL 2008, They did the initial install but that is a they want to do on there end. They have sent us a list on maintenance jobs to be configured but are no help in getting them in place. I have very little SQL expereince so I am looking for direction. Here is a list of jobs they wanted setup. 1.       Check database integrity – set plan to fire off daily. 2.       Reorganize index – set weekly – except on the week that you Rebuild indexes.  Start index page size at 50%. 3.       Rebuild index – set monthly 4.       Update statistics – set weekly after reorganize indexes and rebuild indexes. 5.       Clean up history – set monthly 6.       Back Up Database (FULL) – set daily 7.       Maintenance Cleanup Task – this is to control the number of locally available backups.          Can anyone help me get these in place? Thanks in advanced for any help. I am doing manual backups only a this time.

SQL 2008 SP1 - ALTER FAILED in Maintenance Plan

Hi, One of my SQL 2008 SP1 servers is experiencing periodic failures of a database maintenance plan that includes integrity checks.  Failed:(0) Alter failed for Server 'ssomsitrack1v'.  I've seen other postings from people who have had this issue with SQL 2005 and fixed it by either applying a service pack, enabling the "automatically set processor affinity mask" and/or I/O affinity mask settings, or by executing a sp_configure 'allow updates',0. This server already has both affinity mask checkboxes set, and allow updates is already set to 0.  The maintenance plan fails with this message about 1 in 4 times.  The server is on a VMWare VM w/2GB RAM and two vCPU's.  There's only one user database and it's tiny (~200MB). Any ideas?

SQl 2008 execution plan problem

Hi We are in the middle of upgrading a PeopleSoft database from SQL 2000 to SQL 2008. After the upgrade a select from a view takes 8 min compared to the 1 second it took in SQL 2000. I can see that the execution plan is the problem. What is causing 2008 to be worse than 2000. Is there a patch to fix this 2008 problem or should we stick with 2000 for now. Fixing the system with new indexes and trouble shooting the query is out off the quetion as the people lost there faith in SQL as a system and is saying if this happens now it will keep on happening with other dev and to much time is spent on trouble shooting the SQL 2008 shortcomings.

How do I check/test that my Window is clear of errors

I am using WPF databinding and validating the input using custom Validation rules by extending the ValidationRule class.  This works great!

How I can determine that my Window is clear of all errors?

I have not found any information about this topic in the WPF Validation documentation.

Any suggestions?

How to check for file exists on remote server in ssrs 2008?

I have a report that needs to display images that are stored on a remote web server. The problem is that I also need to check if the file exists first otherwise I get those annoying image not found red X's.

I tried entering the code at the bottom in the custom code section of the report which works if I run it on my local machine however it doesn't work in SSRS 2008. After doing a little trial and error I found it seems to be failing on the first line in the function,

Dim request = System.Net.WebRequest.Create(New Uri (fileURL))

Is there some specific permissions or configuration change needed on the SSRS2008 server for this code to work? Or is there a better way to do this?

Public Function CheckRemoteURL(ByVal fileURL As String) As String
Dim request = System.Net.WebRequest.Create(New Uri (fileURL))
request.Method = "HEAD"

Dim returnURL = ""

Dim response = request.GetResponse()
returnURL = fileURL
Catch ex As Exception
returnURL =""
End Try

Return returnURL
End Function

How to check referential integrity

Hi there!

I have a database (MS SQL 2005) in which I have imported a lot of data. During the import I turned off the foreign key constraints. Is there a way to check, which rows in a table or across the whole database are violating the foreign key constraints? Is there any sql statement for this?

Thank you for your help!

SQL 2005 upgrade to SQL 2008 R2 migration plan

Where can i get a outline for upgrading from 2005 to 2008 r2 (both standard).
The 'Copy Database' from ssms fails when it finds a database role in my 2005 database.  Not sure why.
I tried an IS project to transfer logins and it also fails.
I assume i need to transfer logins w/ sids or they won't match if i detach and copy files.
I had fewer problems moving from 2000 to 2005, sorry, frustrated.

SQL Server 2008 Maintenance plan will not delete bak and trn files

I have a sql 2008 maintenance plan to backup databases and to delete old bak files.  The db backup works but the delete does not.  I do not get any error messages, all steps marked successful.  So, I copied the sql statement EXECUTE master.dbo.xp_delete_file 0,N'Z:\SQL BACKUPS\',N'bak',N'2010-11-14T12:43:35',1 and tried to execute in a query window.  I have a successful completion message, BUT the files are not deleted.  I have ensured that the extension is bak and the folder is correct and the account has sysadmin on the server and is a sql sa.  I have tried many options and no success.

We are version   Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (SP1) - 10.0.2531.0 (X64)   Mar 29 2009 10:11:52   Copyright (c) 1988-2008 Microsoft Corporation  Enterprise Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.0 <X64> (Build 6002: Service Pack 2) (VM).

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!
