How to access MS SQL Server 2005 from shell script on linux machine

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 26, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I would like to access MS SQL Server 2005 database from shell script resides on linux machine.

I am missing out the ODBC drivers that could achieve the task.

Let me know if there are any freeware ODBC drivers that can meet the requirement.

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Virtual Server 2005: Program Customized Testing Environments Without Trashing Your Machine

Efficient testing can require many different machine and server configurations but the effort needed to manage these test environments can take a toll. Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 simplifies the provisioning and management of testing environments. This article demonstrates how the extensive Virtual Server COM API can be used to create an automated application testing environment to make your testing chores a whole lot easier.

Login Failed for User "XXX" when login from a ETL machine for Sql Server 2005 SP2

Hi Guys, I have a straange issue with Login Failed errors coming intermittently probabaly twice in a week: I have a  production Database on Server A and we have Two ETL servers on Server B and Server C. Sometimes when the ETL's (SSIS) run from SERVER B I do get an error stating login failed for user "XXX" this user is a sql server user. And when I run the same package from Server C it does not give any error and runs smoothly. Both the packages uses the same configuration file to connect to the same database with the same user credentials. Also this error is not a frequent error but comes along once or twice in a weeK. Can anyone shed some light on this and let me know the root cause. Both servers have the same sql client version as well. All servers mentioned above are 64 bit windows 2003 servers. Raju

Connect SQL Server 2005 to Ms Access on another computer

I'm trying to create a "Linked Server" on my SQL Server 2005.  This linked server is a reference to an Access File on a remote computer.  I've set up all the permissions and shared resources.  I've created an ODBC DSN to connect to the database.  If i open the DSN in excel, i can retrieve data.  If I open a linked server connected to the DB I get the following error when i try to run a query against it.   ------------------ OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "LS_Specialty" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed". OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "LS_Specialty" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed". OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "LS_Specialty" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '(unknown)'.  It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data.". Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "LS_Specialty". ---------------------   Why does this DSN work in Excel and Access, but not in SQL

Access 2007 upsizing wizard can't connect to SQL Server 2005 Express

When trying to use the Access 2007 upsizing wizard to move a database to SQL Server 2005 Express, I get the following error message:

Connection failed:
SQLState: '01000'
SQL Server Error: 2
[Microsoft][ODBC SQ Server Driver][Share
Connection failed:
SQL Server Error: 17
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Shared Memory]SQL Server
does not exist or access denied.

I get the same message regardless of whether I configure SQL Server to run as a local system or service.

I am the only user on my Vista 32 PC and am therefore the administrator. As far as I can tell I have sufficient authority since I can start and stop SQL Server.

As a newbie to all this, I can't find any step by step instructions as to how a local copy of SQL Server should be configured to work with the upsizing wizard. In fact I can't even find any Access 2007 help walk-throughs on this upsizing wizard, let alone troubleshooting its error messages.

Any help would be appreciated, as well as links to step by step instructions (which I can't find in the MSDN Library materials).

PS Does MS understand how inadequate and inefficient its built-in documentation really is? Maybe that's what keeps MS Press in business!

Creating DSN for local machine in SQL Server Express 2005

Good evening,

This is my first time with SQL Server, so please forgive me if this is a ridiculous question:

I'm trying to create a DSN so I can connect up to SQL Server Express 2005 on my laptop/local machine. I'm attempting to connect via Windows NT authentication. I've tried 'Named Pipes' and TCP/IP settings but am not able to connect. I keep getting an error that states:

SQLState: '01000'

SQL Server Error: 2

Connection failed

SQLState: '08001'

SQL Server Error: 17

SQL Server does not exist or access denied

Is the server created by just installing SQL Server 2005, or is there something additional I need to do? Any help would be much appreciated.

Microsoft Accounting Professional 2009 - controlling user access on SQL Server 2005

I have MS Accounting Professional 2009 installed on Windows Small Business Server 2008 with the accounting database in SQL Server 2005

I can access the database on the server using my client installation of MS Accounting and use it as expected

When I add another user I am unable to restrict the access rights of that user by selecting a role for them and restricting their access by denying them access to certain areas or providing read-only access to certain areas

What happens when we select a user and select a role and un-tick the Administrator rights box and click ok is that the user rights are not saved without administrator rights.  When the user's rights are opened again, the Administrator box has a tick in it again.

The sequence of events is exactly as described - untick the Administrator box, click ok, then select the user in the "Manage Users" list again, click "Edit" and there's a tick in the "Administrator" box.

In every other respect, MS Accounting appears to work ok, i.e. no error messages, no crashes.

We believe that we should be able to work around this issue by manually setting user access rights directly in the SQL database, but so far we have not been able to do that.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this, can anyone provide any help or suggestions?

Connectivity problem between MS Access 2007 and SQL Server Express 2005

I have linked my tables, in SQL Server Express 2005, to MS Access 2007 and created a File DSN named LocalSQLServer.dsn. Both the front end (MS Access 2007) and the back end (SQL Express 2005) are on the same machine.

I am trying to check an open connection , and for that I have written a module -- Function CheckConnection(strFileDSNName As String, _

strDBName As String, Optional strUN As String, Optional strPW As String) As Boolean

strConnect = "Provider=ODBC" & _

";FILE DSN =" & strFileDSNName & _

";Database=" & strDBName

I have created a form with a command button to check the connection, but it is giving the following error

"-2147467259; Method 'Close Connection' of Object'_CurrentProject failed

I am not able to figure it out, if the Connection Parameters that I have taken are correct or not. Please help me in this.

SQL Server 2005 Grant User Permission to Create Stored Procedure and Grant Execute Access to another

I'm trying to determine the minimal amount of access I can give my developers to be able to run create stored procedure scripts with an inclusion of the grant execute to the application user group.

We have been developing some interesting work arounds, but I think there must be an easier way to grant the access.

Grant Create Stored Procedure to user1 on a specific database

Grant Permission to Grant Execute permission for Stored Procedures on a specific Database to user1 for any user.

Error installing SQL server 2005 SP2 - "Machine does not have a product that matches the installatio

While I am trying to install SQL server 2005 I get the following message - "Machine does not have a product that matches the installation package". The installation does not occur.

I am using Windows 2000 Professional SP4 and using 32 bit installer - SQLServer2005SP2-KB921896-x86-ENU.exe

Help would be appreciated... thanks.
