"Connect to Outlook" and "Open Schedule" disabled in Ribbon on instance of Project Tasks list

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 26, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi Everyone,
I am creating a custom list template for "Project Tasks", essentially I need a customized version of the OOB Project Tasks list. I've cloned the OOB feature over to my Visual Studio 2010 solution and I am able to successfully deploy my version as expected, with everything fully functional, gantt chart and everything, except one thing. When I provision an instance of the list using the OOB list template, I am able to see everything in the Ribbon enabled. However, when I provision an instance of my custom list template (clone), I see the "Connect to Outlook" button disabled, as well as the "Open Schedule" button disabled - which allows you to open the task list with Microsoft Project (I have all Office 2010 clients installed, including Microsoft Project).

I am guessing there must be some type of setting somewhere that associates the OOB list template to those Ribbon items that I see as disabled. The only thing different between my list template and the OOB list template is the Type ID. Could this be the problem?

Where should I be looking to troubleshoot this issue?

Connect "Project Tasks" List's Calendar View to Outlook

I would like to connect our department's "Project Tasks"-type list to an Outlook calendar (the same way I can do with a "Calendar"-type list).

In Sharepoint, I have a nice "Calendar View" (this is a Sharepoint View/Report using the "Calendar" format) of the "Project Tasks"-type List items showing which items were worked on in the past or are to be worked on in the future.  I would like to Connect this view to Outlook, but it appears this "Project Tasks"-type list does not have the "Connect to Outlook" option in the ACTIONS menu.

I have confirmed that the "Connect to Outlook" option is activated in our "Enable Client Integration" settings per thread ((http://www.eggheadcafe.com/community/aspnet/69/10091824/cannot-see-connect-to-outlook-in-the-actions.aspx).  In fact, if I create a strict "Calendar"-type list (instead of a "Project Tasks"-type list or "Issue Tracking"-type list), I do get the "Connect to Outlook" option in the ACTIONS menu.  I'd li

Connect to Outlook a Task list that has Tasks with Multiple users assigned

Using MOSS 2007 SP2 and Outlook 2007 SP2

I go to a task list that has multiple users assigned to a task.

I setup the connect to outlook for this list, and in outlook I only see the tasks that have a single user assigned.

None of the multiple user assigned tasks are visable, is this how it is supposed to work?

Cannot enable Ribbon Edit Tab buttons and "connect" them to a list item in my custom webpart

I have one list with some custom fields and I want to develop a custom page. So, I created an ASPX page and added my custom webpart. This webpart has just a RichTextField, in edit mode, "linked" to one item of the list, like below: SPSite _SPSite = SPContext.Current.Site; SPWeb _SPWebProjects = _SPSite.OpenWeb("/Projects"); SPList _SPListProject = _SPWebProjects.GetList("/Projects/Lists/Project"); int _ID = Convert.ToInt32(this.Page.Request.QueryString["ID"]); RichTextField _RTF = new RichTextField(); _RTF.ID = "RTF"; _RTF.ControlMode = SPControlMode.Edit; _RTF.FieldName = "History"; _RTF.ItemContext = SPContext.GetContext(HttpContext.Current, _ID, _SPListProject.ID, _SPListProject.ParentWeb); _RTF.RenderContext = SPContext.GetContext(HttpContext.Current, _ID, _SPListProject.ID, _SPListProject.ParentWeb); this.Controls.Add(_RTF);   Then, I "turned on" the edit tab on the ribbon by doing the follow: protected override void OnPreRender(EventArgs e) { SPRibbon _CurrentRibbon = SPRibbon.GetCurrent(this.Page); _CurrentRibbon.TrimById("Ribbon.WebPartPage"); _CurrentRibbon.MakeTabAvailable("Ribbon.ListForm.Edit", string.Empty); _CurrentRibbon.MakeContextualGroupInitiallyVisible("Ribbon.ListForm.Edit", string.Empty); _CurrentRibbon.Minimized = false; _CurrentRi

Question about List Tools ribbon

Hi, is it possible to set by default to visible the "List Tools" upon the ribbon. When I go to Task list, the List Tools is visible by default but not with my custom lists.

How to hide the list ribbon in XSLT List View Web Part?

Hi, In SharePoint 2010, I have a custom list "Clients" on a site. On the home page of the site, I have added a Clients List Web Part. When I access the home page in a browser and click anywhere in that list, it displays the "List Tool" ribbon group which has "Items" and "List" ribbons. I do NOT want these ribbons at all when clicking on the list. How do I achieve this? Should I disable the click event on the list so these ribbons do NOT appear? How do I disable the click event on the list? Or What should I do to hide these ribbons when clicking on the list? Basically I want it to behave same as content query web part. In content query web part, if you click anywhere in it, it doesn't show up any extra ribbons. I want the same behavior with list web part. Thanks, Hitesh

displaying microsoft project tasks in dashboards?

I understand that you can have task lists created in SharePoint and have them display on a dashboard with something like % complete, etc.  However, we have a client that has many different projects they manage that each have their own Microsoft Project file.  They want to know when the milestones on the project are due and what the % complete is based off of the contents of the project file.  Is there a way to pull this info from the project files and have it display in a dashboard or some other format?  We don't want to have to manually enter the tasks in SharePoint - it should be automated. Thanks, Robert

SharePoint List Source and Destination BIDS adapters not working for our sharepoint instance

It was with great anticipation I installed the SharePoint List Source and Destination BIDS adapters (from CodePlex, http://sqlsrvintegrationsrv.codeplex.com/releases/view/17652). Unfortunately, the adapters are not working for our MOSS sharepoint instance.  We're a DOD (department of defense) site, so the level of security may be higher than normal and may be affecting the adapters. The error message was lengthy and I couldn't copy it and paste here.  I did screen shots and put the complete error message at http://www.christianbahnsen.com/sharepoint_source_error_message.pdf If I can get this to work I think it would be very useful.  I'd played around with KPI Lists, but one cannot create an Indicator directly from SQL Server 2008 (cf. my related thread at http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sharepointbi/thread/bcc95f65-012e-4b8a-8850-b03fb0f16b0f).  I was hoping that these adapters would provide a work-around by populating sharepoint lists that could be the source for KPI Indicators. As always, thanks in advance for any assistance. Christian Bahnsen

Feature Upgrade Functionality - Adding a new Content Type and List Instance

I've successfully used the upgrade functionality in SP 2010 to upgrade my list structures as needed. So far, these updates have been adding new fields to existing content types. Now, I have some new fields, content types and list instances to add, and am having trouble getting this accomplished. The scenario is this: - A new content type with a single custom field (also new), and a list instance for this new content type - A new field that is a lookup back to the new list instance defined above. This new field is added as an existing content type. - In my feature.xml, I have the Element Manifest specified with both new fields and an AddContentTypeField element for the new field being added to an existing content type:   <ApplyElementManifests> <ElementManifest Location="V1_04\Elements.xml"/> </ApplyElementManifests> <AddContentTypeField ContentTypeId="0x0100..." FieldId="{8028A1C8-1147-4DF7-B5C3-8A1F84A30360}" PushDown="TRUE"/> The result of running the update on this feature is: - My new field that is part of an existing content type is added - My new field that is part of a new content type/instance is added - My new content type and list instance is NOT created, therefore my lookup is broken Any idea why my new Content Type and List Instance is not being created? Do I need to specify there

How to transform a list into a tasks list

Dear all, I have create a custom list and I am now asked to add a field to inform person about any changes in a record. Usually I do this by using a tasks list and the E-Mail Notification option (Send e-mail when ownership is assigned or when an item has been changed). This allow to mention who should be informed, this is clearly identified in the task record. But... ...the list I have was not initially created as a tasks list! Therefore, "Email notification" is not available in the advanced settings. I have added the "Assigned to" field to my list, hoping Sharepoint would be clever, it is not. Does anybody know how to transform this list into a tasks list? Thx in advance!

Creating calendar view from tasks list programmatically

Hi All, I have a Tasks list of type "107" and I am trying to create a Calendar view for the tasks list. The way I created the calendar view is as follows: SPView calView = l.Views.Add("Calendar", l.GetView(l.DefaultView.ID).ViewFields.ToStringCollection(), string.Empty, (uint)100, true, false, SPViewCollection.SPViewType.Calendar, false);<br/><br/> I would like to specify the Time interval, Calendar columns, Default scope for this view. Can anyone point me to documentation for creating a calendar view from tasks list? Do I need to specify that in the viewquery? Thanks.

Issue Adding a new Lookup Field to an existing List Instance

I have a code base that houses all of the column, content types, template, and list instance definitions. Am using the Update functionlaity a lot from version to version. Has been working well to this point. I just added two new columns (fields), one a Lookup and the other a Multi-Lookup. The fields are added fine on the update, columns look correct and the content type to which these were added also look fine. I can create a new List instance from the content type, and the new lookup columns are fine. The problem is this. Any existing list instances that were created from this same content type, now blow up when I try and access list items via the SP GUI. Something about a valid GUID, I dont't have the exect error anymore, but will repost it when I recreate the issue for the tenth time. I tried deleting the new lookup fields from this new list instance, thinking that I might be able to re-add them to fix the problem, but I get a new stack trace when I try and re-add them. Any hints on where I can start digging would be appreciated. I think I'll start with comparing the list instance schemas between an existing list and a newly created one.
