Which of the above two spliting content db process is safe and easy to achieve?
What are the draw back of using either?

I've inherited rather a mess, the situation is as follows:
1 web application named home.company.com
containing 2 databases:
db_1 - contains:
I propose to do the following:
Rename home.company.com web app to ssp.company.com, including hostheader/DNS etc
create fresh home.company.com web app
Move pre-existing home.company.com/ site collection to new web app/database with stsadm -o mergecontentdbs specifiying the one site collection in a file.
merge the remaining 2 contentdbs ENTIRELY in the ssp.company.com web application
The bit I'm not sure about is the last sentence - is it supported to merge these contentdbs as they contain mysites and ssp admin site.
THe ssp admin database itself used for storing the ssp configuration info is obviously a seperate DB.
Why do I want to sort all this out?? Because I need to upgrade the profiles/My Sites to 2010, and to do this I need to attach the relevant databases! As well as th
I have a question with this tool. I have a database listed in the App_folder, and the database has a connection in Server explorer. The connection string is listed in the web.config file, and I am able to add users and roles with the Web Admin Tool. However, when in the Web Admin Tool, under Configuration tab, I receive an error when I click on the "test" button. The error reads
" Could not establish a connection to the database. If you have not yet created the SQL Server database, exit the Web Site Administration tool, use the aspnet_regsql command-line utility to create and configure the database, and then return to this tool to set the provider."
How can this be, and how do I correct this?
I get the following error when trying to delete a site and its subsites from the Site Content and Structure tool:

I'm dealing with a scenario where a legitimate user doesn't have a clue about his password, secret question or the answer. So, I was trying to create an admin tool that would help me in situations like these where the admin should be able to type in username and reset the password without having to know/enter answer to secret question. I understand that I need to make some changes to the web.config for this to work. I thought I made all the changes but my ResetPassword() requests are still not working.
Here's my web.config settings for the provider.
I am the admin of a site and need to delete a version of a document someone else uploaded into a document library. In other libraries, when I hover over the document, I get the drop-down which contains the "Edit Item, Open In... and Delete". In
the particular library, I don't get that menu. Any ideas why?
We're using SP Foundation 2010, SQLExpress, single server installation. We're looking to perform Content Deployments from a staging site to a production site, both hosted on the same server. Content Deployment does not seem to be a feature of Foundation's
Any recommended 3rd Party Deployment tools? Any workarounds?
I would like to present users with unique content based on certain conditions being met as they land on the home page (default.aspx). The condition logic will be in the VB code behind Page Load event. The content will go in a content placeholder as specificed from the master page.
However, the content change wouldn't be something small (ie making a panel or label visible or not) but rather it will be different HTML, Divs and databound gridview content. The HTML content will be stored in the database.
Can someone point me in the right direction for best practices on how to accomplish this?
I usually work with windows forms, and am just starting to work with ASP.Net, so appologies if this is a dumb question!
I have a master page which has a search button on it. The results of this are built up using a Linq statement and if there are any results, I want to display the results in a contents page.
On the masterpage, I have the following code:
Public Overridable ReadOnly Property SearchRes()
Private Sub DoSearch()
'some code to get a linq result
If res.Any Then
_res = res
LabelNoRes.Visible = True
On the SearchResults.aspx page I have this code.
Dim m As pxSite = CType(Page.Master, MasterPage)
If m.SearchRes IsNot Nothing Then
Label1.Text = "Results found = " & m.SearchRes.Count
m.searchRes is always nothing.
What am I doing wrong here?
