To Configure Search Box Web Part properties

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 26, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I need configure the Search Box Web Part properties to add a custom scope HR to it. Are these steps below the right steps?
  1. Navigate to the Search Center site.
  2. In the Search Center, click the Site Actions menu, and then click Edit Page . The Search page opens in Edit mode.
  3. In the Search Box Web Part, expand the Edit drop-down list, and then click Modify Shared Web Part .
  4. In the Search Box tool pane, expand the Scopes Dropdown node.
  5. Expand the Miscellaneous node.

In the Scope Display Group box, type the name of the scope display group "HR" that you want to display in the scopes drop-down list. By default, the value of this property is Search Dropdown .

Please let me know the solution to this issue as soon as possible.

Thanks and Regards,

Custom Properties in Advanced Search Web Part - a bug??

we are trying to configure the advanced search web part and add some custom properties. Those properties are of type managed metadata.

We saw the following sample:

When try to use the web part, for example by add the property "product" and then search "when [product]="valueA",

we get not only results where the item has a property "product=valueA",

but also any item where in its body (full text) there is "valueA".

This behavior doesn't occur when searching non-custom property (for example "author=keren").

Is that a bug or are we missing something in the customization?

thanks a lot!

Pass the server variable to search core result web part

I'd like to custom the search core result web part to filter results based on the log on user name.

It can easily be done in Dataview web part.

However the search core web part doesn't accept "<parameterbining>" to pass in the server variable [logon_user]. I can't figure out how to use <xsl:param> to get this server variable either.

Any ideas? Thanks a lot!

Web Part Versioning and Deployment (properties only)

Suppose I have a 3rd party Web Part (source code provided, with Web Part deployed as a Feature) that’s installed and used in several Sites within a Site Collection.  I want to make changes not to the source code (which would require updating the assembly and deploying the changes as an updated Feature/Solution Package), but to property values of the Web Part that exist.  Say the WP exists on 10 pages, and I want to change the WP’s Title property from “Amazing Vendor Web Part” to “My New Title”.

First, would this be considered an “out-of-band” patch?  Not that it matters terribly how to label this…

Second, would the ideal approach be to simply add code within a Feature Receiver in that Web Parts VS project (the Feat

Search - How to remove a meta tag ... / custom column is not showing up in Crawled Properties after

Hi I got the following warning after I crawled a site. Info out of Crawl Log: "The content for this address was excluded by the crawler because this item was marked with a no-index meta-tag. To index this item, remove the meta-tag and recrawl." Sound easy but I don't no where I could do it. The other problem is that I try to get a custom column from a custom list showing up in the crawle properties. I am using also a custom scope with the behavior "INCLUDE" ... In MOSS 2007 it was a lot simpler ;-) Thanks Regards MIA

Searching for custom properties in a default search

Hi all, I have added some custom properties in to Manage User Properties in my User Profile Service Application. The issue I'm having is that I'm unable to obtain search results from these properties. For example, if in the Enterprise Search / People tab I enter "Dave" and click search, then I'll be presented with results of people who's name matches "Dave". If I enter "Information Technology" then I'll get a list of all users who's department is "Information Technology". So far we're okay! But let's go back to the custom property. Let's say it's called "Clients" and it is for storing client names against the staff profiles. If I search for "Microsoft" and a user has Microsoft in their client property then no results are found. I've created the managed properties in the Metadata Property Mappings of my search service application, done full crawls but nothing. If I search for "clients:microsoft" then I get results. So the question is how do I or is it even possible to get custom metadata properties to show up in a default search? Thanks!

Search Results Web part not showing all results

Hello, I have an issue with the people search results web part not showing all the results that exist for a particular query. The query in question returns 106 results, and it is showing 50 per page, but the paging bar only goes up to page 2, and the results summary says it is showing "x of 100 results". If I manually change the query string to say start=61 instead of start=51 for page 2, it will show me the last 6 people, and the search summary will say "showing 57-106" Why is it not showing me the option for a page 2? When I perform a similar query that returns 140 results, it will show me all three pages correctly. I have tried turning duplicate trimming off but it makes no difference either. Any ideas why this is happening? Thank you

Can any one help me to show this in any of the date format but not like System.DateTime[]. Many Thanks in advance Chirantan

People Search Results - Where do property/headings in the core results web part come from?

Hi there, I'm hoping this will be a nice simple thing to fix! We're running SharePoint 2010 Enterprise, using the Enterprise Search. In my User Profiles Service Application, I changed the display name of one of the User Properties. It it the SPS-Responsibility property. The out of the box display name is Ask Me About. The only issue is that in the people search results, the SPS-Responsibilty display name still shows as Ask Me About, not my new display name. This link shows this in a screenshot  I've tried various things such as resetting the index, running full crawls again etc. Could anyone let me know where this text is coming from? Thanks! Al

Configure FAST Search for SP2010

hey everyone,

I don't know if this is the right section to post this but here goes...

I've followed the white paper of microsoft and blogs for configuration for FAST search on SP2010 but i've stumbled upon a problem and I can't find a solution anywhere.
Also tried reflection on the search dll to try to figure out what the problem could be but didn't find anything.

There is a section where you have to use the powershell cmdlet "Set-SPEnterpriseSearchExtendedQueryProperty" , but this gives me an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object reference".

You need to set the following attributes
- SearchApplication
- Identity
- Value

All is filled in but the error keeps coming back to me and is hold me up for all the next configuration steps.
I'm also a developer and in devland the object reference error usually has something to do with an object that isn't instantiated.

My best friends Bing & Google didn't found the solution so this is my last option.

I hope somebody can help me with this issue

Web Part Properties issue

Hi there,

I've create a custom object for my web part. I can compile  the web part or web part editor without any issue.  However, when I click "Apply" or "Ok" on the Web Part Editor (this is where I've to update the CustomObject value, I have debugging it line by line there was NO error at all) But an error message raise on the top on the editor.

"Cannot save all of the property settings for this Web Part. An error has occurred."

Any idea what could cause this? or how should I debug this one? Thanks!

How to Configure search for meta-data based retrieval of documents into Document Libraries?

I need to crawl update of newly created/updated documents within document libraries. My understanding says i need to create the new content source and associate the crawls.. and newly created and updated documents would be crawled in the next sceduled incremental crawl. But my question is how i can create the dadicated content source for document libraries as the content as there is no such content source type.

Any suggestion or workaround would be greatly appreciated.
