asp.net cannot access network folders

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 26, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
I have a few computers (with Vista Business OS) connected in a private network. A C#.NET application running on one computer is currently able to access the network shared folders without problems. However, I am trying to get an ASP.NET application on that computer to access the same folders but I am getting "Access denied" errors. I added NETWORK SERVICE to all the shared folders' security (with full control) but it still gives the same errors.

Cannot Access Reports from Computers Within Network

I am able to access reports from my computer that has the SQL Server (2008) installed, but can't seem to access from other computers in the network. All I get is

"The permissions granted to user 'MyComputerName\Guest' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)"

Can someone please help?

I tried creating user "MyComputerName\Guest" and assign permission to view reports, but still cannot get it to work. Am I doing something wrong?

Here are some details from my Report Services Configuration Manager

Users can only access their folders...

I have a web app were every user has its own folder so that they can store documents. What i would like to do is protect a user's folder so that only the owner can access it.

Username: ricky
Folder: ~/Files/ricky/ --> Ricky can access his folder but can't access Diana's

Username: diana
Folder: ~/Files/diana/ --> Diana can access her folder but can't access Ricky's

I'm using membership provider for the user authentication.

Can anyone tell me how to do this?

Claims Based Authentication - Access Denied for NTLM - Network Related

We have setup a test SharePoint environment on a single box. If we create a new classic authentication web application using NTLM the site works fine, and recognizes AD users correctly. Users can then login successfully. If we create a new claims based authentication web application using NTLM all users receive an Access Denied error when trying to view the site. The application will recognize AD users when applying permissions in Central Admin's User Policy section, but none of those users are able to access the site.

If I turn on Fiddler Capture, the sites will work fine. Once I turn it off the sites no longer work and we are again presented with an Access Denied exception (or sometimes 403 Forbidden in Firefox and Chrome). I know that Fiddler create a local proxy so I'm curious what that proxy is doing that allows claims based to work correctly.

Has anyone seen this before? Does this sound Firewall/Antivirus related? Client or server?

Thank you,

allowing remote users access to a specific site but not to any other network servers

I've been checking previous postings.  We are opening up a sharepoint site for partner companies. Once they get to their site we don't want them on any other servers on the network.

I followed the info in previous postings and created a group called Computer_Deny, created a user and added them to that group.  I created a GPO and linked it to the default domain with the user right deny access to this computer from the network enabled and the Computer_Deny group added.  Removed authenticated users from the filtering and added the Computer_Deny group.

did gpupdate /force

restarted an internal machine for testing.  Logged on as the user I created, the user can't get to any server except the domain controller.  What I'm not sure about....they need to authenticate with the DC, I believe, once they finish their HTTPS entry and then need to get to the sharepoint server.  If that is true, the authentication process has to happen on the DC.  I would think the authentication process is different that a user trying to access a computer from the network.  Am I correct?  Am I least moving in the right direction?

The user can still access the DC various ways i.e. run command, entire network but NOT via RDP since that right has not been granted.  Some further research indicates that if

File access across the network, credentials, logonuser, impersonation

I have an application that has both a server and client... the client can exist on any computer.

I have a need to allow a client to export a set of files.  The server process that will be exporting the job runs as the Local System account.

When I want to export resources to a remote UNC such as \\servername\share that I don't have permission on I would like to prompt my user for credentials.

How do I then use these new credentials to authenticate and then System.IO.File.Copy(src,dst)?

I've found several articles on impersonation and I can impersonate a local user, but not a remote user it seems...

I'm programming in C#.

External users can logon to sharepoint but cannot access folders.

We migrated a database to a new server running a fresh install of Sharepoint Services 3 and WSS. Internally we can access the Sharepoint sites and navigate around and open shared documents. External users can successfully log on to the website and navigate from page to page, they can even open documents that are listed on a page. However, they cannot open any FOLDER listed in the Project Documentation. They get an "address not found"  page error. Internal users can  these folders without any problem.
I am thinking it's a permission issue but my experience with Sharepoint leaves alot to be desired.
Any help in fixing this problem would be appreciated.

IIS7 access rights to SQL Express 2008 (both use Network Service)

I have IIS7 and SQL Express 2008 running on Windows Server 2008.  IIS7's application pool that my app belongs to is configured for Network Service account.  The SQL Server also uses the same account.  I noticed that MS no longer discourages use of Network Service account for SQL 2008 (as it used to for 2005).

In IIS5 I used to give ASPNET account selected rights to my app's database.  With IIS7/SQL 2008 - both using the same Network Service account - giving access rights to the database does not seem to be necessary.  All app's running in the pool that uses Network Service account have full access to all resources in the database.

Is this expected?  If yes, what are the risks?

MVC architecture in ASP.Net using C# and Microsoft Data Access Application block

The Model-View-Controller (MVC) pattern separates the modeling of the domain, the presentation, and the actions based on user input into three separate classes [Burbeck92]:

Model. The model manages the behavior and data of the application domain, responds to requests for information about its state (usually from the view), and responds to instructions to change state (usually from the controller).

View. The view manages the display of information.

Controller. The controller interprets the mouse and keyboard inputs from the user, informing the model and/or the view to change as appropriate.

SharePoint document migration challenges when migrating files and folders

There are several challenges when migrating documents to Microsoft SharePoint. While these challenges can be overcome, they are a real pain if the migration source, content and file systems are not SharePoint friendly.
