SharePoint 2010 Migration - Site Definition (default.aspx ignored)

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 25, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
We have attached a 2007 content db to a 2010 instance of SharePoint and now...the site is not using the default.aspx that is in the file system.

In fact, I am not sure which default.aspx page it is using.  I had expected that after the migration it would be using the site definition default.aspx and the customMasterpage which is located in the site definition.

I have confirmed via the database that it is using the appropriate site definition (web template and configuration id) however it seems to be using some other default.aspx and it is ignoring the custom master page designation in the onet.xml file.

Any ideas on what is going on here?

Problem Saving Files to A Sharepoint 2010 Site from Office 2010: Saves locally by default rather tha

Hi we are starting to use sharepoint 2010 / word 2010 and have found an interesting bug/problem. Sometimes when a user tries to save a file (by clicking on the save button in the quick access toolbar for word 2010) the save dialog comes up with the users local "Documents" folder as the path (not the correct sharepoint path where the document should be saved).  (I should say that we are creating the file from sharepoint by using a toolbar on the document library, with the new button)  We are using a content type and a template attached to the document library when we create the file.  This is really annoying because the user might not notice that the document is saving locally and not to sharepoint.  I have found a strange workaround which involves clicking the [File] tab on the ribbon in word 2010, then clicking "Save and Send" and then clicking the save button again.  At this point word 2010 seems to "remember" that it is trying to save document to sharepoint and shows the sharepoint document library. This is a real nuisance which could lead to documents being lost/misfiled if people don't realize that this is happening.  Can anyone help me? Thanks Kevin krd

Adding a custom control to the SharePoint 2010 Team Site Wiki Page Template ( wkpstd.aspx ) programm

Topic This is maybe my last post about the Team Site Wiki Page customization with the aim of exceeding its limitations. This time we are going to customize the unique template ( wkpstd.aspx) by replacing the control that renders the editable content by a custom one. In this post example, we will take advantage of the use of this custom control to render not editable additional contents, for instance, a header and a footer that could be the same for a specific Wiki Page Library. Of course, we are not going to really customize the template, but we are going to use a delegate control to replace the control at runtime. Here are the screen shots of the result: We can see a non editable Header and Footer on the Team Site Wiki Page In edit mode these additional contents are not rendered, but we can add new content as usual And of course, after having saved the page, the new content is rendered wtih the non editable Header and Footer. Steps required   If you look at the Team Site Wiki Page template, wkpstd.aspx, you can see the control that is rendering the editable content/ <SharePoint:EmbeddedFormField ID="WikiField" FieldName="WikiField" ControlMode="Display" runat="server" /> We are first going to create a custom EmbeddedFormField control Then, we are going to use a delegate control to replace the native EmbeddedFor

Custom Default.aspx SharePoint 2010

I would like to replace the default.aspx with a custom default.aspx.  I have been able to accomplish this with a feature. I am finding the when deployed the new default.aspx page shows up in the following directory C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\TEMPLATE\FEATURES\ProjectInsightSPMaster_ProjectInsightLayoutFeature\defaultpage I also have a default.aspx located in the following directory.  This is the one that is deployed with the site definition. C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\TEMPLATE\SiteTemplates\PISP    When I browse to a site in IE, it is in fact looking at the correct (new) default.aspx page which is located in the FEATURES directory.  How does SharePoint know to use this default.aspx page instead of the one located in the SiteTemplates directory.  This is confusing to me.  Can you explain?   Is this the correct way of deploying an updated default.aspx?   dave

Reg: Does Custom site definition created in SharePoint 2007 works in Sharepoint 2010

If one has created a custom site definition in sharepoint 2007, Once the whole site is migrated to sharePoint 2010 will that "custom site definition" created in 2007 will work without breaking in SharePoint 2010?

If No, what has to be done to make it work on 2010.

Sharepoint 2010 Migration (from Non SP site)

My company is looking at migrating to a new sharepoint 2010 site from a non sharepoint site.

I have been tasked with making sure that we manage URL's in the migration to keep SEO and stop dead pages. Our current site has over 15,000 pages to which not all are being migrated. secondly we are not migrating look and feel that will be a whole new site with a ifferent structure.

To make this work i need some way of getting sharepoint to recognise URL's being accessed by the old site and redirect to best suited page. Now i had thought about doing a complete migration into sharepoint of our existing site but then realised this probably wont work as sharepoints /pages/ would break the old sites URL???

This what im looking for...

A method of importing URL structure from old site

Importing this structure into Sharepoint
making this structure aware of the new site and then knowing where to redirect it in the new site

Hoping i have made this clear... oh and btw im Sharepoint Noooob... So would be greatful if you bear that in mind in your replies?!?!

Is there a site page default.master in SharePoint Server 2010??

I inserted a few lines of code on the wkpstd.aspx template to "show" the document library properties on each wiki page within each wiki page library. This is working fine, except that the property Document ID
is showing up on site pages as well.  I checked Moss 2007 and I foumd that there is a bpcf.aspx default page that is used to create a basic page. Is there a separate template or master page for the site pages within 2010 that i can modify?

Any help or suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

After a new SharePoint 2010 setup with langpack, how to set the default languge of the initial site?

Hi all,

I am new to the SharePoint world, I’ve just installed SharePoint Server 2010 and right after the installation I also installed my local language pack.

When I first connect to the server with a browser I automatically get to the http://servername/_layouts/templatepick.aspx to create my very first site on the server.

The thing is that on this initial page there is no option to select the default language of your very first site it will be English, afterwards of course you can set the Alternate language in site settings.

And because of this, users who want to view the page in their local language, they have to change the display language at the top right user menu the first time they open this first site.

This is only cosmetics I know, but is there a way to set the default language of this very first site you create? Else if you want to give users a site where they get their local language by default you have to create a new site and can not use this initial site.

Thanks for every comments you may have.

Best regards,

Sharepoint 2010 user's migration.

Hello everybody, I've migrated my Sharepoint 2007 (Windows 2003 AD 1) to our new Sharepoint 2010 (Windows 2008 R2 AD 2) and I've found problems with the users (migrated them with ADMT 3.2 preserving SiD). They cannot connect in this new Sharepoint, probably because they are still registered in Sharepoint as AD1\user and not AD2\user? There's a way I can complete this migration without losing the old Sharepoint users security\permissions? Thanks in advance, Yuri.
