After DB Content upgrade/attach of a content database, user permissions are not retained

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 25, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hello, we are working on an upgrade to Sharepoint 2010 using the new farm and dbattach method for migrating the content dbs.  We have just finished successfully moving/migrating the SSP and user profiles from 2007 to 2010 and have started on the content databases. The sites upgrade and move over okay and accept the visual upgrade okay. But users do not have the permissions they should have. If you look in the People and Groups area, everyone is listed there as they are supposed to be, but they are not able to add documents for example even if they are in the owners group.

Is there something else you have to do to get the permissions to move over correctly to the new farm?

DB attach upgrade in SP 2010 farm with 2 WFEs: Content only shows on one WFE

When we create new web applications with new content databases, everything shows up fine on both WFEs in our SP2010 farm. But when we do a DB attach upgrade with a MOSS content db, its site collections' content only shows on one WFE (the one the attach was run for) for the corresponding web application.

How do we get the content for a web app that consists of only db-attached content databases to show on the second (or any additional) WFE?

Thanks for any hint,
René

Restoring a content database from another server/AD does not synch user profile information for new

In my SharePoint 2010 beta environment, I have user profiles synching with Active Directory.  I just restored a content database from a separate environment/domain and logged in with my current account.  When I try to create an alert on a library/item, I get the error:

“You do not have an e-mail address.  Alert has been created successfully but you will not receive notifications until valid e-mail or mobile address has been provided in your profile.”

I went to My Profile and found that the My Profile had the right e-mail address (I guess because this is on my My Site Host).

But when I went to My Settings, it did not have any e-mail address for me (I guess this is because it is at the WSS content database level and the e-mail address hasn’t yet synched from the user profile database).

Does anyone the timer job that synchs the user profile with the My Settings for a site collection in a content database?

Issue is posted to my blog with screenshots here:

Content Attach database - no errors in test-spcontentdatabase but...

I have read this article, very similar to what I have dealt with http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sharepoint2010general/thread/cfee3e21-0ad9-4ba8-9822-674348bd2ad6

I do not get an output error in the powershell command to test the content database after I have installed all of my steps  in the exact order after numerous setups to prevent the errors from regenerating.

Since I wasn't able to restore the website, I would start over by removing the content database and repeat the process until I get my strategy right to bring up the website, I get errors with the test-spcontentdatabase afterwards.  Why do I get errors the second time around when I never received them the first time?  Is it because I had removed the content database and the web application and started over again?  Do I need to rebuild the server each time?  I do have a snapshots of the virtual images to go back to its working point.  However to confirm my suspicions, I would need to revert with SQL box first and then the app server and respect webservers in order?  I need help with these answers as there are doubts of underlying issues of not seeing output errors the first time and only see the error outp

Rendering User Control content

I have a scenario where, the content is:
<div>
 ASP.NET Controls
      User Control
 ASP.NET Controls
</div>

The entire div code is rendered and is sent at a mail using the code:

Dim sw As New StringWriter()
Dim w As New HtmlTextWriter(sw)
Dim s As String = sw.GetStringBuilder().ToString()
dvContent.RenderControl(w)

This works fine except that the User Control does not get rendered.

Any way out, so that the User Control content is also rendered ?

How to get access to content database after server hardware failure

Sharepoint server 2007 and remote sql 2000 SP4 database, after ShraPoint server crash only content databases are available and intact. Trying to restore from backup fail, stsadm -o restore says that not valid backup is available on path. How to get access to available content database using a new installation with same server name, ip address and partitions configuration. How to recover site with content databases information.

Regards, thanks for help.

MOSS Content Database has more documents than what's seen on browser

Hi,
I am not sure how sharepoint internally handles stuff, but this is what I see. I am a SQLDBA and one of my company sharepoint group re-organized a site, by moving some files from a document library to another document library. I think she used the content deployment.

When she see the number of documents in the document library it showed 700 documents. She moved only 50 of them. I went into the database and queried the Docs and DocStreams View and I get the list of all the those documents. I see both the ones that we see on the site as well as something that we do not see on the site.

SELECT

ad.DirName, ad.LeafName, TimeCreated, ads.size/1024 as [Size(KB)], SetupPath

FROM Docs ad, DocStr

Estimate weight of BLOB data in our content database

How can I estimate overall size of blob data?

User control with multiple item content

I have a user control that I would like to contain multiple items as its content, similar to the way a <StackPanel> works. I tried using a <ContentPresent/> but it will only let me use a single item as the control's content. What's the best way to go about this? I realize I could just require the user to put a <StackPanel> or <Grid> or similar control as the content of the user control, but i would rather not do that if possible.   I'm not sure if it matters, but this control actually has several content presenters. Some of them will contain a single item and some will contain multiple items.

SharePoint Version 2.0 (WSS 2.0 SP3) Content Database restore to new farm

Is it possible to use an SQL backup from a sharepoint Version 2 SP3 database to restore the content on a new server farm and attach to a new web applicaiton. NOTE: This is WSS 2.0. In WSS 3.0 this is a very simple task, but it is not the same in WSS 2.0 (the add content database option CANNOT be used to attach to an existing content database like it does in WSS 3.0). The options I have found appear to say you need the configuration database from the old server then it can be done. I am migrating from an outsourced deployment, so I do not have access to that. Plan B is to do a sharepoint STSADM backup. THis seems to be a more likey way to do it.

Cannot crawl sharepoint site and mysite after database attach upgrade form sharepoint 2007 to 2010.

After database attach upgrade site and mysite from sharepoint 2007 to 2010 , I have full crawl and get "The crawler could not communicate with the server. Check that the server is available and that the firewall access is configured correctly. If the repository was temporarily unavailable, an incremental crawl will fix this error. ( Error from SharePoint site: HttpStatusCode ServiceUnavailable The request failed with HTTP status 503: Service Unavailable. )" for mysite and get "Access is denied. Verify that either the Default Content Access Account has access to this repository, or add a crawl rule to crawl this repository. If the repository being crawled is a SharePoint repository, verify that the account you are using has "Full Read" permissions on the SharePoint Web Application being crawled." for sharepoint site. The content access account for search is "db_owner" of both of site and mysite. How do I solved this problem ?

Interesting error message with content organiser: Cannot resolve mailbox (null) to a valid user

Here is a site with content organiser site feature enabled, as well as the email integration feature. Emails are successfully delivered to the "Submitted Email Records" list, but is never routed to the Drop Off Library. (the content organiser web service works fine and the drop off library works as a custom send to destination and happily processes its rules. If I turn up the debug juice I get the error "Cannot resolve mailbox (null) to a valid user" for every item in any "Submitted Email Records" in the site collection. Area: Document managagement Category: Content organiser EventID: 8000 Message: Cannot resolve mailbox (null) to a valid user I have temporarily worked around the problem by email enabling the drop off library but it creates an intermittent race condition (similar to certain workflow and event receiver situations), so its not a real solution (and in fact I assume thats why the Submitted Email Records hidden list exists in the first place). I've run procmon, specifically focusing on OSWTIMER and nothing interesting shows up at all. The error message is intriguing and I can't really think of what it is trying to do. In troubleshooting I noted that this farm had configured inbound email but not outbound email. I have since rectified this and de/reactivated the content organiser features and reset the timer service and IIS, b

Cannot create content database: The specified SPConfigurationDatabase Name=SharePoint_Config Parent=

Guys, This is the farm configuration: 1. SQL Server 2005 back end server 2. WSS 3.0 / MOSS 2007 WFE Server 3. WSS 3.0 / MOSS 2007 Index/WFE Server All servers are showing the version: 12.0.0.6327 in 'Servers in Farm' in C.A. When attempting to add a new content database, the following error is thrown in the web UI: The specified SPConfigurationDatabase Name=SharePoint_Config-New Parent=SPDatabaseServiceInstance has been upgraded to a newer version of SharePoint. Please upgrade this SharePoint application server before attempting to access this object. Furthermore the following is posted to the application event log on the WFE hosting central admin: Database 'SharePoint_Config-New' on SQL Server instance 'XXXXXXXX' is not empty and does not match current database schema. There is nothing of further interest in the trace log, just the same error as above. No errors on the SQL server either. Also no updates have been installed, and content databases HAVE been created since the last updates were installed 2 years ago. Can anyone suggest anything before I raise a call with MS? I have checked permissions for the sharepoint system account on the databases and all seems fine. Cheers, Conrad    Conrad Goodman MCITP SA / MCTS: WSS3.0 + MOSS2007

Attach site collection data from content databases

I have migrated my Sharepoint from a stand-alone installation to a server farm installation by following this article. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262325%28office.12%29.aspx Every step was completed successfully, except for the last one (4): Install Office SharePoint Server 2007 on a new farm Move databases from the stand-alone server to the server farm Create and attach data from the Shared Services Provider (SSP) Attach site collection data from content databases Whenever I try using the stsadm -o extendvs I get the following message: The IIS Web Site you have selected is in use by SharePoint.  You must select another port or hostname.   The following is the command: STSADM.EXE -o extendvs -url http://dms01 -ownerlogin group\dms -owneremail dms@xxx.com -exclusivelyusentlm -databaseserver jagrb -databasename WSS_Content -apcreatenew -apidname DMS -apidtype configurableid -apidlogin group\dms -apidpwd xxxx   So far, all my efforts to Attach the site collection data from the content databases have failed. Any ideas?

Feature Upgrade Functionality - Adding a new Content Type and List Instance

I've successfully used the upgrade functionality in SP 2010 to upgrade my list structures as needed. So far, these updates have been adding new fields to existing content types. Now, I have some new fields, content types and list instances to add, and am having trouble getting this accomplished. The scenario is this: - A new content type with a single custom field (also new), and a list instance for this new content type - A new field that is a lookup back to the new list instance defined above. This new field is added as an existing content type. - In my feature.xml, I have the Element Manifest specified with both new fields and an AddContentTypeField element for the new field being added to an existing content type:   <ApplyElementManifests> <ElementManifest Location="V1_04\Elements.xml"/> </ApplyElementManifests> <AddContentTypeField ContentTypeId="0x0100..." FieldId="{8028A1C8-1147-4DF7-B5C3-8A1F84A30360}" PushDown="TRUE"/> The result of running the update on this feature is: - My new field that is part of an existing content type is added - My new field that is part of a new content type/instance is added - My new content type and list instance is NOT created, therefore my lookup is broken Any idea why my new Content Type and List Instance is not being created? Do I need to specify there
