Database server migration - renaming database server in SharePoint 2007

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 25, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

We are migrating our SharePoint databases to a new database server.  This new database server will have a new name for SharePoint to reference.  How do I go about pointing SharePoint 2007 from the old database server name to the new name?

It seems like there should be a simple solution, but I have yet to find a solid procedure.

Thank you,

- Tom

Cannot connect Visio 2007 to SQL Server CE 3.5 database?

I am trying to reverse engineer a database (running under SQL Server CE 3.5 SP1) with Visio 2007 Professional.  I may be being blind, but I can find not way for Visio to do this.  Am I missing something or just piddling into the wind? Fully patched Vista. Thanks, Ed Bessant

SharePoint 2010 Server: Cannot manage all user profiles from upgraded MOSS SSP database

I have upgraded an SSP database to SharePoint 2010 and successfully performed User Profile Synchronization with Active Directory, however I cannot manage ALL of the user profiles in the database. I go to "Manage User Profiles" in Central Administration and perform a filtered search (i.e. I want all DOMAIN accounts beginning with "j" so I search for "DOMAIN\j" in Manage User Profiles), but I don't receive ALL the user profiles back. I receive about 8 in return when I know there are about 20 starting with "j". If I create a new AD account beginning with "j" it is successfully synched with SharePoint 2010 and I see it in the Manage User Profiles. I ran an stsadm -o sync to clear any old synchronization information, and the Forefront Synchronization Service appeared to pull in many changes to existing accounts (including ones I can't currently manage), but I still cannot manage them using "Manage User Profiles". I really need to be able to manage all the profiles so I can manually edit some fields. Can anyone please help? Thanks in advance.

Upsizing Database from Access 2007 to SQL Server Express 2008

I have recently downloaded and installed SQL Server Express 2008 on to my Windows XP SP3 machine, I have a large MS Access 2007 database (.accdb) I wish to export out to SQL Server. I am using the 'upsizing wizard' that is found on the 'Database Tools' tab of Access 2007. Clicking on the 'Database Tools' tab and then on the 'SQL Server' button starts the Upsizing wizard. On the first page of which I select the 'Create new database' option, the next page asks 'What SQL Server would you like to use for this database?' it already has '(local)' entered into the text box, so I leave that unchanged, I tick the trusted connection box and name the new SQL Server database and then click 'Next'. But I get the following error (it appears in a Windows information message box):

Title: Microsoft SQL Server Login
Message Text:
Connection failed:
SQLState: '01000'
SQL Server Error: 2
[Microsft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Shared Memory]ConnectionOpen(Connect()).
Connection failed:
SQL State: '08001'
SQL Server Error: 17
[Microsft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Shared Memory]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

PS. I have successfully used the upsizing wizard to export the same Access database into SQL Server Express 2005 on another machine.

What am I doing wrong this time?

Any negative impact to Sharepoint and Project Server if IP for backend database server is changed.

If IP address of the backend database server will be changed for sharepoint 2007 and project server 2007, will it impact any way  both the servers.

Issue with SAN Drive Migration in master database in clustered SQL Server 2005 SP1

In our SQL Server 2005 SP1 cluster, I have to retire the existing SAN and move all my databases to new SAN drive. I have successfully moved all datafiles (user, system databases, resource) except master database.

Even when I change the parameters in start-up from configuration manager, I am getting error when starting up from cluster administrator / configuration manager.

But I am able to start the SQL Server successfully from command line (without any flags).

When I start the SQL Server from cluster administrator / configuration manager (after changing the parameters), I see that the start-up parameters are changing back to originalpath (old SAN) .

Please let me know incase you need any more information.

Moving SharePoint Database to non trusted domain SQL server

We have SharePoint and SQL server in a extranet domain. We would like move the SQL server databases for SharePoint to our corporate SQL server (on the corporate domain).

The Corporate domain does not trust the extranet domain, and thus the web farm account cannnot be specified on the corportare SQL instance. If it possible to migrate the databases to a non tusted domain?

I've seen the script to create a new Config database using SQL authentication

psconfig -cmd configdb -create -server <SQL server name> -database <database name> -dbuser <SQL account> -dbpassword <SQL password> -user <AD user account> -password <AD user password>

Can I edit the config of SharePoint to point to the new SQL server, or do I need to create the entire sharepoint enviromnent again and attach the content databases?

I also have a SSP database that's heavily customised for searcvhing and the BDC. Will this need recreating again or can I move the BDC database  to the new server and attach?

Relocate Sharepoint 3.0 database from SBS2008 to a different server

The SBS2008 server got Sharepoint3 and SQL2005 pre-installed. Is it possible to move the sharepoint database to a different server? The reason for that is mainly due to storage capacity.

Error in Creating a Sharepoint Configuration Database on a SQL server 08 during installation

I have a three server environment – T1 – a domain controller and T2 and T3 for SharePoint  and SQL Server 08 and respectively, where each is a virtual machine.

These servers are on a domain separate from our company domain.

While installing sharepoint on t2, I get the following error at the step that creates a config database (on T3 SQL Server)

Appreciate your comments on Database migration from Oracle to SQL Server ...

From my perspective, there are two major known issues that would cause major

resource consumption for porting My-App from Oracle to Microsoft SQL Server. First,

the Perl code within My-App reads the Oracle object meta-data for defining it's

internal objects and data types. SD would be the best group to identify the effort

to replace this dynamic functionality. The second issue is the coding required

to replace Oracle's built-in functionality to work with data hierarchies / tree

structures / parent-child relationships.

The My-App Data Model is heavily based on parent-child relationships through out

numerous tables; every item has a parent, every person has a manager, every team

may or may not be nested, etc. Oracle has native SQL clause, connect_by, to query

these structures. Oracle also provides pseudo columns for the connect_by meta data,

such as levels, path, isleaf, cycle options, etc. The connect_by functionality with

Microsoft SQL Server (see Reference below) is done natively with a "with" clause or

via custom procedures. SQL Server does not provide any pseudo columns functionality.

Also, SQL Server does not support any analytic and aggregate func

Migrating MOSS 2007 installation from one database server to another - configuration database issue

The database server which our sharepoint installation is currently using is going to be shutdown and a new one is going to be put in production.

I read in some post that the configuration database cannot be moved (while the same operation type is documented for content database). Is this correct?

Isn't there a way by which I can modify my current moss installation to define the use of another sql server for configuration (and then later for content) databases?

Any other workaround or procedure?

Thank you!

Cannot connect to database master at SQL server at 'mumachinename\SharePoint

I do not have any experience in SharePoint. That is why, question maigt be not very smart. Try to install SharePoint server 2010 at Window 2008 server. All prerequisites have been installed. There is no SQL Server installed on this machine. When config wizard started, I got Error Cannot connect to database master at SQL server at 'mumachinename\SharePoint.The database might not exist, or the current user does not have permission to connect to it. Do I need to install SQL Server first on this machine?

Shifting SharePoint to Database server

Dear Friends

I have Sharepoint 2007 and SQL server 2008 Running on two separate machines. What i want to do is to Remove SharePoint server and shift all the data to SQL server machine (yes i want to run SharePoint From Database server to remove the actual sharepoint server).

what i think is

1. I can install fresh SharePoint to Database server and can give the Existing database when configuring (As SharePoint database is already on Database server)

2. I can take a backup of sharepoint, install fresh sharepoint on database server and use the new database for sharepoint configuration and then Move things like, site definitions and collections to new server by using the restore.

3. OR I can just fresh install sharepoint, Take a backup of the databases of the sites i need, create new sites in newly installed sharepoint server, connect the provisos database with new created sites.

There are some ways i can think of, But i dont want any pain. Any thing you guys can suggust will be good.
