Unable to request Cumulative Update or any hotfix

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 25, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I need to install the Feb 2010 CU for SharePoint 2007 (x86). This is KB978395. When following the link to request the hotfix, I am presented with the error message "The system is currently unavailable. Please try back later, or contact support..." I have tried accessing for several days. Have checked firewall settings, turned off anti-virus. Tried using Windows 7, Windows Server 2003, IE8, Firefox, Chrome - all with the same result. Although this particular update is what I need (to get a development VM to the same build number as a client's production system for troubleshooting a problem), ANY hotfix request returns the same error. I am in New Zealand, but have used this service fine in the past. The specific URL in question is http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978395 (but any hotfix request has the same problem). A search on the error message shows other people routinely have the same problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

If I attempt to contact support in any way, they want to charge me.  What is going on?

Good news for those of you who get "Unable to make the session state request to the session state se

Dear all,

Due to the known problem of session variables getting lost if using InProc-server during frequent changes in development, I had to choose between SQL and ASP.NET State server, so I opted for the second. Initially, all fine, but after using it for a few days, I started to get this error:

Please ensure that the ASP.NET State service is started and that the client and server ports are the same.  If the server is on a remote machine, please ensure that it accepts remote requests by checking the value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\aspnet_state\Parameters\AllowRemoteConnection.  If the server is on the local machine, and if the before mentioned registry value does not exist or is set to 0, then the state server connection string must use either 'localhost' or '' as the server name.

SharePoint 2010 Cumulative Update - Install sequence - Foundation required or not?

For a SharePoint 2010 Server (not Foundation) environment, is it necessary to install the Foundation Cumulative Update as well as the Server Cumulative Update?  (In the same way that with 2007, you install the WSS update and then the MOSS update) The nearest I have found to an answer is here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/sharepoint/ff800847.aspx where it says 'We recommend that you always install SharePoint Foundation 2010 patches before installing SharePoint Server 2010 patches. This best practice ensures that you will always be successful when installing updates.'   In this regard, should 2010 Foundation be thought of as a pre-req, or underlying component, for 2010 Server?   The same question applies to the use of the Updates folder in the install media - for a Server install, should we be extracting both the Foundation and Server Cumulative Updates there, for a correct slipstreamed install?   Thanks.   Rob

Search request unable to connect to the Search Service.

I have searched through other similiar topics and have not been able to get it working again properly. I've tried deleting the Search Service account out and all associated information and created a new one. My crawl logs show that they are successfull and that I have content available in my local sites, as well as my people listed. I have disabled loopback checks, given the default content access account owner access on the databases. Everytime I do a search, I get that error message listed as the subject. I'm running a 4 server farm setup with 1 DB, 1 App, and 2 WFE's. Everything was working fine and now I can't get back working right. I have hammering at it all day and need some additional input of where to look. I'm no SharePoint expert by any means, but I'm slowly getting used to everything. Please help!

Problem installing Cumulative Update 6 for SQL 2008 SP1 on Windows XP

I am attempting to apply SQL Server 20008 SP1 Cumulative Update 6 on my Windows XP desktop. The update executable is unpacked and I get a brief flash of a Command Screen and then nothing. I have searched for any update files but have not found any. My Desktop Configuration: Windows XP SP3, Windows Installer 4. SQL Server 2008 SP1 Developer Edition. I am also attempting to install the Client Tools for SQL 2008R2 on this same desktop and am getting the same results. I click on SETUP and get a brief flash of the Command Screen and the installation does not continue. Internet searches speak of a problem with a registry entry in the Boostrap Key for a valid Setup directory, but this key exists in my desktop registry. Thanks,

Is Microsoft planning to have CU webcasts (like Project/Project Server) to describe the CUs in more detail and allow Q & A?  It is VERY useful and informative.BT

Unable to update records using IN clause

Hi, I've a common function as shown below: public int ExecuteNonQuery(string text, params IDataParameter[] parameters) { DbCommand command = new SqlCommand(); command.CommandText = text; command.CommandType = type; command.Connection = conn; command.Transaction = null; foreach (IDataParameter parameter in parameters) { command.Parameters.Add(parameter); } return command.ExecuteNonQuery(); } public IDataParameter CreateParameter(string name, object value) { if (!name.StartsWith("@")) name = "@" + name; DbParameter parameter = new SqlParameter(name, value); if (value == DBNull.Value) parameter.IsNullable = true; return parameter; }  When I want to update records in a table, I usually invoke as shwon below:// Assume you've a connection object IDataParameter param = conn.CreateParameter("vendor_id", vendorId); string query = "UPDATE table SET status=4 WHERE vendor_id = " + param.ParameterName; conn.ExecuteNonQuery(query, param); This code works fine. But when I'm trying to update multiple records using IN clause, it does not work. Can any one tell me how to do it using IN clause? I need to update all vendors ava

Unable to Set Control's Property After Update / PagePostBack

I'm trying to programmatically set the property of a control on my Form AFTER I've proccessed an update command using the FormView, but it's not working.

In my example below, I have a basic FormView with only a TextBox and Label in its EditItemTemplate.  The FormView uses an AccessDataSource.  The TextBox is bound to the datasource, but the label is not.  What I'm trying to do is update the value in the TextBox (as well as its associated data stored in the database), and then change the Text property of the Label. (*Note: that I using the label purely as an example. The point is I can't see to set any control's property after an update).

I initally thought it had something to do with the "Page.IsPostBack", but even after trying to adjust my code for that, its still not working.

I've tried change the Text property during the Page.IsPostBack during Page_Load event. I've tried setting the Label's EnabledViewState property to True and to False. I've tried using the FormView's OnItemUpdating and OnItemUpdated events. I've tried using the DataSource's OnUpdating and OnUpdated events.

Nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

Here's my sample code and Html:

<script language="VB" run
