ASP.NET Search Engine with MS Access for optional search criteria

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 25, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I am creating a simple search engine similiar to:

I have a text box for the last name and a dropdown list for the club name. If one value is entered, it will search for just one value, and ignore the blank value in the other. If there are 2 values it will search for 2 values, and no values should pull no results.

Using VS 2005 and Access 2003-2005.  My statement works fine in access but in the accessdatasource there are issues with the @ symbol in VS 2005, the ? symbol works, but generates multiple parameters, when I only need 2.

This statement works fine in the access query: (I do believe the statement is correct), but then again im using a drop down list, does that change the rules? Such as dropdownlist.selecteditem.text = ???

SharePoint Portal Server 2001: Search and Access Disparate Data Repositories in Your Enterprise

The knowledge worker is greatly empowered if she is able to access information across the enterprise from a central access point. With the SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Search Service you can catalogue information stored in Exchange public folders, on the Web, in the file system, and even in Lotus Notes databases. This article discusses the use of ActiveX Data Objects and the Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning protocol for creating search solutions based on SharePoint Portal Server 2001.

How to create search engine in MVC

Hi I'm using EF and MVC for the first time and I need some strategy hints.  I have a list of skill sets (ID + Name) which I need to make searchable from a textbox. Then in a seperate step I need to find all people with those skill sets. What's a smart way of doing this? I've been thinking about having two listboxes bound to multiselect lists and then moving records from one listbox to the other. I did that in ASP once, but have no idea of how to do it in MVC.   Re Dennis

Access denied to Search Service Application

I just "upgraded" my installation of SharePoint 2010 Foundation with Search Server Express 2010.  During the installation, I was able to access and configure the Search Service Application. However, a day later, I cannot access the application management page: I get an access denied error.  I am the farm administrator, so supposedly I am supposed to have access to the management page.  I've also tried adding my login to the "Full Control" group of the Search Application; it gives me the same error.  It appears that the only account that can access the administration page is the service/system account.  Obviously this would not be ideal. I've tried looking around for logs to see if anything is amiss, but there appears to be nothing logged. What gives?  How do I fix it?

Search Server Express 2010 - Access Denied when attempting to manage Search Service Application or P

I first noticed this error with the Search Service Application when I was no longer able to use the search portal, but have since noticed the issue with the PowerPoint Service Application.  When I navigate in Central Administration to either the "Farm Search Administration" or the "Manage service applications" pages and attempt to manage the "Search Service Application", I get this error: Error: Access Denied  Current User You are currently signed in as:  WHEELERS\MyUserName   Sign in as a different user    I have tried removing the service application and re-adding it, changing the application pool to running under an existing application pool as the farm administrator, as another application pool with the same identity as the primary web application, and as another application pool running under the SP-SearchService identity. The big recent change with SharePoint, aside from fixing the previous issue where I was incorrectly using CNAMEs with Kerberos, was to switch the main web application to claims authentication. That site correctly works with claims based authentication and Kerberos.

Looking for suggestions or ideas how to setup to capture search criteria and present to user if they

Requirements call for the ability to save search values so that they can select them at later times to return the results without having to re-enter the values. They have the ability to search on 4 different types of data (Date, Time and Lat/Long), so they would like to capture what was entered and ONLY if they chose to save those values, it will be saved and next time they login, if they are searching, they can pick an old search and submit it again.   Im thinking that i add a checkbox next to each button, if they check it, it saves the data into a table with there values and username. Next time they login and go tothe search page, if there are any records for them in the table, i present them with a link that displays all the values stored and if they select one, it will run the search again and present them with the results.. does that sound like the right way to handle this request?

Multible search criteria with empty field option

I have a gridview with two textboxes (first name & last name) and a linkbutton to search results inside the gridview.I have made select parameters as well and the search works if i write in both textboxes. Can't implement Search capabilities in my C# application using Access 2003

I'm using visual c# 2005 express edition, i tried to implement full text search capabilities in my application using an Access 2003 database (of 1 table only) but i couldn't. Could someone tell me how to go about, with an example maybe?

Thanks in advance.

Can't search Home Portal as no local access on the server

Sharepoint 2010, Web server and seperate SQL server. Could search the Home portal Application (returning 100's of documents) until I configured AAM, now I don't get any search results from the Home portal as I can't access the home page URL locally from the server so I assume the search service can't resolve the URL, getting the following error no matter what URL I try (for the homepage) "This item could not be crawled because the crawler could not connect to the repository"

I can crawl and return results for both the "mySites" and "Central Admin" application (haven't configured AAM for MySites yet) so confident that search is actually working. Am using SSL for the site through ISA server and the URL is https://sharepoint.mycompany.ie, originaly when using just the server name then search returned results. Had a real problem getting SharePoint configured through ISA server and a colleague spent a lot of time working on this, ended up extending the application and configuring additional AAM's for the extended APP to resolve issues with the ISA server so not really keen on messing around with the AAM's (ISA server is managed by third party and costly support so really want to stay well alone as it's now working)

What can I do to get search returing results if&nbs

But need to find permanent solution.

I went through various blogs and found below blog with sucess response.

Why does Windows Sharepoint Services Search want access to non-sharepoint databases.

I have installed a new instance of Sharepoint 2007 and am in the process of configuring all the farm services.  At the moment the farm consists of a sharepoint box and a separate sql server.  Here is the catch.  There are already some non-sharepoint databases on the sharepoint server.  The account under which Central Administration runs has dbcreator and securityadmin privileges in the database.  The Sharepoint_Config and SharePoint_AdminContent databases were created without any issues.

When I try to start the Windows Services Search, I get an "Unknown Error."  Looking in the event viewer gives the following error "The server principal "MyServerPrincipal" is not able to access the database "MyDatabase" under the current security context."  This is true, MyServerPrincipal does not have privileges to access MyDatabase, but why should it.  MyDatabase has nothing to do with sharepoint.

In an attempt to get past this issue, I gave MyServerPrincipal public access to MyDatabase, but that resulted in an additional error saying that it lacked INSERT privileges.  This is really worriesome.  Does anyone know why Sharepoint Search configuration would try to access the non-Sharepoint database?

Thanks a lot.

does someone have an example of his/her global.asax and how the addiional route handling has been added?
