SQL server performance problem (periodical stopping processing transactions)

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 25, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Hi there.
We are facing some problem that connected with sql server (as we think)
We have some software (OLTP more like) which receives data (with same structure) over network and then writes it into DB. The problem is that every minute sql server stops processing transactions for 10 seconds (approximately). You can see this situation on picture (green line is intensity of incoming data and red line is output intensity after processing (adding to DB)).
IBM server with 4 x Xeon 2.2 Ghz (cpu utilization is less then 10%)
DB files are located on RAID 6 over 20 spindle (physical disks) max IO speed more then 300 MB/s (IO throughtput usage is about 2 MB/s). DB Log is located on the same drive as other DB's files. LOB is stored in separated files. DB sheme is a typical warehouse: 2 Large tables(Table A - 400 M of rows, contains images and has reference to table B. Table B has 40 M of rows).
Data proceeding: some structed data (int's + chars) + image - max 50 KB
Proceeding algorithms: Step 1. Look up table B. Step 2. Insert in table B if needed. Insert into table A.<

SQL Server Session state problem.

Hi to all,

I have some things that I want to know. I am right now using a free asp.net webhosting ("somee.com"). The problem is that when I am visiting a page, there's a tendency that values stored in my session variables are lost. Therefore, it causes an error when the requested page is loaded.

1. I am thinking of using sessionState mode="SqlServer". Will it solve my problem?

Actualy Im working on it but Im having problems when connecting to the sql database.

2.  Is that a problem in the webhost?

3. Do free webhosting sites provide allow session state in the sql server?. Because ive tried it locally into my computer and error say's i should intall the ASP.NET Session State SQL Server version 2.0 or above.

SQL Server Express2008 R2 brings app down, instance problem

I have tried dozens of changes and modifications to many settings as I will outilne here and all to no avail.

The short answer here though is that I uninstalled SQL Sever Express 2008 R2 and went back to the "NON" 2008 R2 and got things working. But like the fool I am wanted to run on the more current rev and updated again, all problems returned....

SQL Server Express 2008

I was orginally getting this message after updating to SQL Sever Express 2008 R2, I removed VWD 2008 Express from the web server, no good, then uninstalled SQL Server 2008 Express R2 and reinstalled SQL Server 2008 Express. worked but had issues, couldn't install MGTM Studio. Then I removed SQL 2008, cleaned folders and reg. Reloaded SQL Server 2008 Express, still flaky, couldn't get the Management Studio to install. So I removed it again and used the Web Platform Installer, which worked but loaded 2008 R2 again. Which brought back the message.

IIS 6.0: New Features Improve Your Web Server's Performance, Reliability, and Scalability

As the Web evolves, so does the role that Internet servers play. The Internet has seen the growth of e-commerce, B2B business, collaboration, streaming and other new media, and these new applications require new features to meet increasingly complex needs. Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) has many of the features today's mature Web sites need. This article outlines the features in the upcoming version 6.0 and discusses how they promote better scalability, reliability, and performance. Features such as Remote administration, caching, and metabase improvements, as well as custom isolation and security enhancements, make IIS 6.0 the Web server of the future.

ATL Server and Visual Studio .NET: Developing High-Performance Web Applications Gets Easier

When developing high-performance applications for the Web, developers often must choose between performance and ease of development. With ATL Server, new with Visual Studio .NET, developers get the best of both worlds. ATL Server uses a tag replacement engine written in C++, provides a simple programming model, and promotes enhanced performance and easy debugging. This article presents an overview of the ATL Server architecture, then creates a basic ATL Server project. It then goes on to explain processing SRF files, HTTP streams, forms, cookies, and header files. Managing session state is also discussed, along with file uploads and performance monitoring.

Problem opening dotnet 1.1 projet on 2008 web server

We recently upgraded to a 2008 development web server and I installed all the stuff to get dot net 1.1 app working on the server.  I can host them and they work.  My problem is that when I try to open one in VS 2003 I get the following error.  I set up the web server the same as my previous one, and I think a long time  ago I got this error when we set up current one but do not remember how to resolve it.  So I moved my project files from the old server to the new server and then I get these errors.

The web Server reported the following error when attempting to create or open the Web Project located at the following url: Http://localhost:/MobTracker. 'Http/1.1 500 server error

Wickedly Strange .Net WPF Performance Problem Dissapeers with Windows 7 Performance Monitor Open

Hello Everyone, I have been developing one large and complex WPF application for 13 months now, all is going well and especially tonight as I now have some sort of clue or hint to what I have been seing now for quite some time.  Here is the rundown. 1) Running on i5 processor with 4GB RAM and Windows 7 2) The application was developed all in .Net 4.0, WPF C#. 3) It is heavily GUI intensive and also uses Entity Framework Detached for Database Access. 4) Is multi-threaded / multi-tasking. I am a nutcase when it comes to testing.  Since my graphical application heavily depends upon performance and determinsm (please somebody don't start with the C++ vs .Net on here) and has been performing great FOR THE MOST PART.  Every once in a while, I see that the application runs into the weeds for 5 or 6 seconds and the interface is unresponsive.  I have this thing tuned finely too.  Well now toward the end of development I have finally had to face that bug so to speak.  I can force it by clicking spastically on my buttons causing an event storm and making the system update the GUI.  SO!  Great start, I can now cause the problem on a regular basis (for you youngsters that is actually a good thing)!  Alright, so I start with the easiest investigative tool, CNTRL - ALT - DEL into Windows 7 Performance Monitor.  As you can tell from

Problem adding .NET 3.5.1 feature on Server 2008 R2

Having an issue with a 2008 R2 64-bit Server becoming unresponsive/locking up when trying to activate the .NET 3.5.1 feature.  Did not have any previous version of .NET installed but ran the .NET Cleanup utility and completed successfully but still have same issue.  It installed .NET 4 via the Microsoft Updates OK but still hangs part way through the 3.5.1 install via the Server Manager/Add Features.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

SQL performance problem

I have a production database replicated on my local machine.  I run a select query for 10k rows.  On my local box the query takes less than half a second.  On production the query takes a full 4 seconds.  I have looked at the SQL Server Profiler and I see a lot of activity on production.  I would like to pinpoint exactly what or what group of items is causing the performance to degrade on production.  What are your suggestions?
