Hide inaccessible databases from object Explorer

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 25, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi All

Does anybody know if it is possible to hide databases in the object explorer which the user doesn' t have access too

I currently connect to a shared hosting solution and can see all of the databases on the server approx 80 + and it becomes a bit of chore to find my 3 databases in this growing list .

How to increase databases that will show in object explorer

I am using a remote database that has over 2500 databases registered on it.

Unfortunately for me I can not list the databases in the Object Explorer pane anymore.  I have to use my Object Details window for the list of databases.

In SQL Server 2000 you could specify that you wanted to only expand a tree view of database objects from a specified node - this is missing in SQL Express 2008.  I also would like to be able to Filter the database views to only list MY database, instead of the 2500 + this server hosts.

I see the icon 'filter' on the toolbar, but it's disabled.   How can I get my database to show up again in the Object Explorer instead of the Object Details window (F7).

OR How can I increase the limit of 2500 databases that will show in the Object Explorer.   I can see why Microsoft set this limit ? But I can't see why they didn't allow any filtering OF that list.  It's just kludgy to say- anything over aggregate count of 2500 will mandate the entire list will no longer show in Object Explorer.  I'd hope to see a feature that lets me say- ONLY show databases that match by THIS pattern - or specific name.  PECULIAR I explicitly SET the database to connect to in the Options during database registration ? But that information seems to be left out of the equation on what to show

Exception when login with sa in Object Explorer within MSSM Studio

Has anyone got an idea what might have caused the following. I have been able to login using SQL Server Authentication using the sa account with no problems within the object explorer. Not sure why I get an error (see below) when I try and login today. I can use the sa account via VS2010 IDE to connect to SQL Server, I can use sa account going via Database Engine Query within MSSM Studio, which uses the same SQL Server Authentication dialog. But when trying to connect via Object Explorer I get the following error. Object Explorer/Server Explorer Error

I have just installed the released VS2005 as well as the released SQL2005.  When ever I try to browse my SQL Server with either the Object Explorer in MS SQL Server Management Studio or the Server Explorer in VS2005 I get the following error:

Unable to cast COM object of type 'System.__ComObject' to interface type 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.OLE.Interop.IServiceProvider'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID '{6D5140C1-7436-11CE-8034-00AA006009FA}' failed due to the following error: No such interface supported (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004002 (E_NOINTERFACE)).

Does any one have possible solutions for me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can execute proc but can't see it in SSMS object explorer

I have setup a user account that has limited rights to execute certain stored procedures.  I can execute these procedures but when I login into SSMS with this user I can't see these sprocs in the object explorer list.  Is there a special permission this user needs to be able to enumerate available sprocs?

I'm running SQL Server 2008 R2 x64.

Stream object is inaccessible after returning from remote layer through remoting -

In my export function I am returning the System.IO.Stream object from remote layer through remoting. But getting the stream object it becomes inaccessible when I called the remoting layer with integrated authentication. It is giving me The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized exception even I access its CanRead or CanWrite property. This is happening only in case of integrated authentication. For without any authentication its working fine.

 Dim ostream As System.IO.Stream
                        oWriter.WriteLine(Now & " - Before calling GetExportData")
                        ostream = oExport.GetExportData(dsGrid, intDateType, repPage.m_strFromDate, repPage.m_strToDate, repPage.m_strProcessStatus, repPage.m_strLocation, repPage.m_strDiseaseOrGrouping, repPage.m_strDiseaseOrGroupingDR, repPage

SSMS/sqlwb.exe hangs when expanding indexes on table in object explorer when table has 10 or more in

Greetings, I have had an anoying problem in SSMS for some time, it seems to hang in the object explorer when I try to expand indexes on a table that has 10 or more indexes. It works fine when we have fewer indexes but when there are 10 or 12, it opens up and shows the indexes and you can work with them (script them, drop, etc.) but the "stop" button in object explorer shows red and is unresponsive as in you can't click and stop it. Eventually I will shut down SSMS and reopen to clear it, but in task manager there is still the sqlwb.exe running and its using 50% or more of the CPU and I have to end that process. I am running SQL 2005 management studio 9.00.4035.00. Any ideas on a fix out there would be appreciated.

?? SSMS "Object Explorer Details" Can't Find Constraints ??

Hi everyone,

I'm using SQL Server Management Studio 2008 R2.

As you know, using the "Object Explorer Details" window (pressing F7) you can see details related to the item selected in "Object Explorer". For example, (assuming you have Northwind installed), select the Northwind database in "Object Explorer" and press F7.

Now, in the "Search" bar at the top of the"Object Explorer Window", let's search for the "DF_Orders_Frieght" constraint defined in the "Orders" table. Just type, "DF_Orders_Freight" in the Search box and press Enter. For some reason, SSMS cannot find the constraint, or any constraint, for that matter. There seems to be a similar problem is searching for column names.

The Search box is certainly a nice feature but why doesn't it find column names or constraint names? It's especially annoying when a constraint fails and we need to find out where that constraint is defined.

Thanks much

Thinking about new C# method prototypes: object as dictionary

I recently had to write a small Flickr API. I know many .Net API for Flickr already exist but I needed one for a Silverlight application. Whatever, it's only about building some querystrings so I did it by myself. It's been an opportunity to think again about a classical question: how to pass parameters to a method ?

Imagine you have a generic method to call some Flickr functions.

Hide a repeater in ASP.NET C# if the DataSource contains no items?

I have an ASP.NET page that uses a repeater nested within another repeater to generate a listing of data. It's to the effect of the following:
In the (C#) code-behind I'm basically using LINQ to pull a listing of information from an XML document and bind that information to the first repeater.

Searching for the answer to this, it seems the method is to determine whether the data for the nested repeater is empty. If it is, then you set the visibility of the repeater to false.

C# Object Oriented Programming

So far in C# Essentials we have looked at the basics of programming in C# such as variable types and flow control. Although it would be possible to write a functional program using these techniques, there is much more to becoming a proficient C# programmer. C# is, above all, an object oriented programming language and as such any C# programmer will be expected to create object-oriented applications using this language.

Object Oriented Programming

Four core concept of OOP Object Oriented Programming. 1.Inheritance, 2.Polymorphism, 3.Abstraction and 4.Encapsulation

Object-Oriented Programming Concepts

This is the first in a series of articles describing the use of object-oriented programming techniques as implemented by the C# programming language. This series follows the C# Fundamentals tutorial that beginners are advised to read first.

Overview of SharePoint Object Model

SharePoint offers a set of structured server-side objects those are widely used to program SharePoint Applications. These objects are hierarchically arranged and you can drill down through the object hierarchy to obtain the object that contains the components of SharePoint Application you need to use in your code.

What is the difference between "dynamic" and "object" keywords?

Let's take a quick look at the object keyword first. I'm not going to talk a lot about it because it's been around since C# 1.0. This keyword is nothing more than a shortcut for System.Object, which is the root type in the C# class hierarchy. (However, as Eric Lippert pointed out in his blog post, not everything in C# derives from object.) This is a powerful mechanism, since you can assign almost any value to instances of this type.

How to bind GridView and DropDownList controls using DataTable object

In .net framework 2.0, you can load a DataTable in memory by consuming a data source using a DataReader. In this version you will find the flexibility in accessing the DataReader means write access code once and use again and again using DataReader. To see the functionality of DataTable consider an example that is created using VS2005.
