Posted By:      Posted Date: October 25, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

for example is table:

Name     Age

John       28

Mark      30

I can create Excel with the same data.

Is it possible when user change data in Excel it would updated in SQL Server Database?

I only need to update. There won't be new records. I know that possible to create SSIS package and then run JOB through Reporting Services. But i would like update directly through Excel.

Problem doing an update to a table in sql server

I have a form that is being populated with data from a sql table.  The user can update via textboxes information on the form and click update.  The data should then be updated back to the table.

For some reason, When I add the parameters I need for the query, it is not grabbing the update from my textbox, it is showing the value that was populated upon load.  I tried to change the customer's phone number.  When I run my code it is pulling in the original phone number and not picking up my change.  Any ideas??

Here is my code:

//Define query
        string sql = "UPDATE Customer SET FirstName=@FirstName, LastName=@LastName, Email=@Email, Password=@Password, Address1=@Address1, Address2=@Address2, City=@City, State=@State, Zip=@Zip, Phone=@Phone, Fax=@Fax Where CustomerID=@CustomerID";

        //Declare the Command
        SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(sql, Conn);

        //Add the parameters needed for the SQL query
        cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@CustomerID", Request.QueryString["ID"]);

Can't update table oracle using a liked server on sql server

I have a stored procedure in SQL2005 that updates data base oracle's tables by a linked server. When run into a transaction I get the following error message:

Msg 7391, Level 16, State 2, Procedure CSGICONTABILINS, Line 69

The operation could not be performed because OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "LS_JBSQLT01_SGI_GLHI" was unable to begin a distributed transaction.

Cannot update Excel 2007 spreadsheet as linked server within SQL 2005 or SQL 2008 via ADO

I am having difficulty updating an Excel worksheet via the ACE.OLEDB.12.0

I have a worksheet defined as a linked server in SQL Server via this
provider, and all attempts to update the lone worksheet in this file as a
linked server results in the following:

OLE DB provider "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" for linked server "linked_excel"
returned message "Bookmark is invalid.".
Msg 7346, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Cannot get the data of the row from the OLE DB provider
"Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" for linked server "linked_excel".

The query:
update linked_excel...sheet1$ set error_col='hithere' where

However, when I try to perform precisely the same update against the same
source via openrowset, it works, to-wit:

update openrowset('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0','Excel
12.0;HDR=yes;Database=f:\path_to_file\filename.xlsx','select * from
set error_col='hithere'

SELECT's performed against either version work properly.

The linked server behavior is consistent across SQL 2005 and 2008

I am concerned that this problem is an artifact of an OLEDB provider update that purposely disabled update b

Export Visio Database Table Names to Excel

If you use the Enterprise Architect edition of Microsoft Visio for data modeling regularly, then there is a good chance that at some point you've wanted to export just the table names into Excel. You might want to do this to map logical ERD entities to physical data model tables, track project status by entity, or track overlap between database versions.

Temporary tables in SQL Server vs. table variables

When writing T-SQL code, you often need a table in which to store data temporarily when it comes time to execute that code. You have four table options: normal tables, local temporary tables, global temporary tables and table variables. I'll discuss the differences between using temporary tables in SQL Server versus table variables.

Bulk Copy From Datatable To SQL Server Table

 I have read the data of a excle file and captured the data into the dataset to a datatable, now that data is to be inserted into a SQL Server table using bulk copy option. I am using -

 public bool BulkEnterData(DataTable dt, string tblName)
        SqlBulkCopy bulk = new SqlBulkCopy(con);
        bulk.DestinationTableName = tblName;

        return true;

ERROR Getting-
A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - The pipe has been ended.)

How to resolve the above problem or any other solution is available.

How to read Excel table?

If I  use Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 to retreive for example named range or sheet from Excel and use it as data source for some server control on the ASP page, everything works fine. But when I try to get table from Excel like this: "select * from [Table1]", debugger complains that database engine could not find object Table1. So how should I reference Table1 in Excel file so that the database engine could find it?

Under the Table: Programming with FileStreams in SQL Server 2008

There's always been disagreement about whether large blobs, such as document and multimedia items, should be stored in the database or file system. In SQL Server 2008 you don't have to choose; filestream storage provides the best of both approaches.

SQL Server CE: New Version Lets You Store and Update Data on Handheld Devices

Handheld device users need to be able to synchronize with a main data store when it's convenient and, preferably, when the back-end database server isn't busy. SQL Server 2000 Windows CE Edition allows you to build a traveling data store that can be displayed and run on a variety of devices. SQL Server CE supports a subset of the full SQL Server package, and can be used as a standalone server or in tandem with SWL Server and IIS. The architecture of SQL Server CE, along with data manipulation, synchronization, and connectivity issues, are discussed in this article. Topics such as making your data public, choosing the right type of replication, and handling errors are also covered.
