Generating crash dump for manged app using windbg as default JIT debugger

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 25, 2010    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework

hi all,

I'm trying to use windbg to generate crash dump for my managed app(it is a .net 3.0 service)  on window server 2003. With the dump, i will debug the app with visual studio 2008 on my PC. However after many hour of setting up, i'm still not able to get windbg to generate a useful dump, although it did run windbg. Windbg seems to hang and only if i were to debug/break windbg, it will generate the dump and it is not loadable via VS2008.

Thanks in advance

Error to watch ThreadStore in Crash Dump

I have a Website running on a server with Windows 2008 SP2 64Bit and a website running on Framework 3.5. Net
After install updates and the Framework 4.0 on some servers I can't examine the managed threads running in my application.

The error message is as follows:
Failed to request ThreadStore

Obs:The version that runs the website remains the same.
My site is still running normally.

I have some servers that update was not made and I can analise it normally

I've tried loading other Symbols, another version of SOS.dll but nothing solves my problem.

Anyone have any idea what might be happening with my application?

Default ASP.NET Architecture

In providing an architectural approach, some assumptions are made concerning the project goals. These assumptions should be used as a litmus test to determine if the described architecture may be an appropriate fit for your ASP.NET application.

Setting the default start page in godaddy hosting?

How do you set the start page with godaddy hosting? I can see no way of doing this! You do not seem to have access to the IIS settings that allow you to change it!

debugger is not hitting the breakpoint

I made a class library, all dlls of all the helping class library.for debugging it put the breakpoints at specifiv locations. It worked fine for 2 times but at third time it jumped the breakpoints, I dont know why????
I displayed the strings before and after the breakpoints to check that is it actualy going to the breakpoint,!! yes it is going to the breakpoint but not stopping on it. I did'nt made any changes to any settings.
On google I found something in tool-->Options-->general-->check the unhandaled execptions but I m using VS 2005 , I could not found any check box regarding unhandeled execptions or breakpoints.
I tryied these methods also
1. Using precision guided missiles: Delete the .pdb files in your obj and bin folders. Recompile. Run.
2. Carpet bomb all .dlls: Delete and reload all the referenced .dlls (Like your class projects)
3. Release a WMD: delete the contents of the very obj and bin folders itself so that all  .pdbs and .dlls are annihilated. Reload the .dlls required and give it a shot.
4. VS.Net magic: Close VS.Net and restart. Rebuild. Run.

but all is fruitless
Please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How to change the default page base class?

I've tried setting the <pages pageBaseType="DynamicWebPage" /> value in web.config, but when I response.write out the page type, I'm still getting Microsoft.WebPages.WebPage.

I'm simply trying to sub-class WebPage and add some additional functionality such as a dynamic PageData dictionary similar to Phil Haack's dynamic ViewData dictionary.

Setting default localization

I ever thought that I can set a default localization if the users one (which is set in the browser) isn't available.

I've implemented my localresource files for localization. The start.aspx.resx contains all texts and elements for German use and the start.aspx.en.resx for English users. When I switch the language in the browser settings from German to English everything works fine and the english text is displayed. But when I switch to an other language which is not German or English, it takes defaulty the german resource files.

I've set

UICulture="auto:en-US" Culture="auto:en-US"

as well, but it didn't assume the .en resource file automatically. (For example when I enter the website and switch the browser language to French or Italian it should take the english resource files.)

Thanks and regards,

Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'CurrencyProxy.CurrencyServiceSoap

I created 2 projects in my solution:

  1. Classic asp.net web service (asmx)
  2. Class library project which references service
  3. web site project which references class library project
  4. Windows app project which references service.

Both projects were created in 3.5 framework and in Visual Studio 2008 Beta 2.

I added web service reference to Class library project. When it asked for namespace I typed "CurrencyProxy". Projects build ok, but when I run web app, Class library throws an error: Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'CurrencyProxy.CurrencyServiceSoap' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this contract could be found in the client element.

I believe it has something to do with app.config in Class library project. Here is part from app.config:

<binding name="CurrencyServiceSoap" closeTimeout=

default.browser from asp.net 3.5 to asp.net 4.0

hello, it's me again :-)

a (maybe) stupid question:

in asp.net 3.5 i've this .browser file:

<browser refID="safari1plus">

<adapter controlType="System.Web.UI.WebControls.Menu" adapterType="" />

now i suppose that in asp.net 4.0 this is not useful.

So what i've to do? I've simply to delete "App_Browsers" folder in my converted project or i've to put in this folder:

What's the best way?

Thank  you very much!

Test Run: Generating Graphs with WPF

A common software-development task is generating a graph from a set of test-related data. But if you're doing it by hand and the underlying data changes frequently, this particular task can become quite tedious. James McCaffrey shows you how to automate the process using Windows Presentation Foundation technology.

SharePoint and Open XML: Generating Documents from SharePoint Using Open XML Content Controls

This article describes how to generate documents that contain data stored in SharePoint lists. The example demonstrates how OpenXML content controls can be defined to capture list data in a Word document and how LINQ to XML can be used to query the lists. The documents are generated from a SharePoint Web Part.

Bugslayer: Mini Dump Snapshots and the New SOS

In debugging some large Microsoft® . NET Framework-based ap-plications over the last few months, I've been spending more time looking at mini dumps than at live processes. This is mainly because in those large applications problems surface when the apps are running in production and not on test systems.

Visual C++ 6.0: Don't Let Memory Allocation Failures Crash Your Legacy STL Application

Most C++ developers make extensive use of the Standard Template Library (STL) in their code. If you are one of them and are using STL and Visual C++ 6.0 directly out of the box, your application is at high risk of crashing under low memory conditions. The problem arises because checking for failure of operator new is such an uncommon practice. To make things worse, when new does fail, the response is not standard. Some language compilers return NULL while others throw an exception. In addition, if you are using STL in an MFC project, be aware that MFC has its own set of rules. This article discusses these problems, explains how the default behavior has changed in Visual C++ .NET 2003, and outlines the changes you must make if you're using Visual C++ 6.0 so that you can safely use the STL when operator new fails.
